It's All About the Salvage

Hey, folks. Here's a question that I've been wondering about. Salvage comes in 2 varieties: Arcane and Tech. Each has it's own build tree and uses either a workbench (tech) or forge (arcane) to assemble components. Some salvage is dual-origin, but there is alot that is only arcane or only tech.

If you have an SG base that is tech, what are you supposed to do with the arcane-only salvage? These would be things like Arcane Powder (dropped by Tsoo), Hex (droppped by Skulls & Hellions), and just about anything you'll get in Croatoa, just to name a few. Can a tech-based SG use these for anything? Can they be traded to another SG to acquire more tech-based stuff?

An idea given up by Lord Xen is to trade tech salvage for arcane salvage w/ toons from other SGs.

Depending on the server, SG and size of that SG there are options. I run with a lot of altoholics. We have enough toons to fill 3 different SG's. Only 2 of which actualy have bases under construction.

We made one tech and the other arcane so we could use it all. Of course if you aren't in an SG that large it's a bit of a useless suggestion. I see that the GA Alliance is opening an alt SG. I didn't know if the toon in question is on that server or in the SG.

RE: It's All About the Salvage

Whether Tech or Arcane they can both be used the same way, both cost the same, both use the same amount of Power and Control, and both offer the same choices.

And keep in mind you can now make Temporary Powers with salvage, so its a good idea to use both types, one type to decorate bases the other to make Temporary Powers see belows guide:

Villainess Vines' Guide to Tech Empowerment Stations:
http://cityofheroes.gameamp.com/guide/view...56.php!orderBy=

There is also an Empowerment Station for Arcane Salvage, but I don't see a guide yet.

What we did was build with both types until we had enough for one, we only had 2 Arcane Teleporters, and didn't have enough Arcane salvage to Build 2 more, but we had Tech Salvage and so built 2 Tech Teleporters and for a while had 2 of each in our base, access to all the Hazzard zones as soon as possible was priority.

To compensate for it we made the teleporter room into a mad scientists experimentation room, lots of Jacobs Ladders and such, it helped it fit into the base style, but once we had enough salvage for 2 Arcane teleporters we built them and deleted the Tech ones, I figure this can be done with most base items if not all built from salvage.

Just my 2 Influence.

RE: It's All About the Salvage

All excellent ideas, folks. Thank you!

Here's another one, but still salvage-related. It seems to me that there is a higher rate of salvage drop when you operate in SG-mode. However, most heroes stop using SG mode in the 28-30 range because they really need the influence. It also seems that a lot of the 'special' salvage needed for advanced components come from baddies in the late game: Crey, Malta, etc. What's the best way to maximize your salvage drop in the late game without giving up much-needed influence?

RE: It's All About the Salvage

Speaking of salvage, here's one about the Gameamp SGs:
I am running around with a ton of salvage, completely useless to me and anyone else... because I am not allowed to deposit any in the salvage bin.

I can understand that some control has to be exerted concerning who may USE salvage; but why isn't each and every member allowed to GIVE it to the SG? It is only for the SG's benefit anyway, and is totally useless to a character (especially since the temporary power fabricators are not available in the base and the temp powers they give are worthless anyway).

So... Could an officer correct the permission window configuration so that everyone (in the Heroes SG and the Villains SG) may contribute to the group?

Last time I checked, permissions were already set for any of the SG members to deposit and withdrawl.

I have never encontered any issues depositing salvage into the bin in the SG base. That is, except when it was in use by another SG member.

Just putting this thread back on track. Anyone have any comments regarding the above question?

There are more then a few ways to do it, I guess telling you what I do makes the most sense...

Soloing (I am talking about post level 36 toons I consider late in the game):
During Missions I start outside of SG mode and only enter SG mode when attacking bosses and up since the likelyhood of a Lieut or Minion dropping salvage is rare, this allows me to maximize Inf/Exp/Salvage, near the end of mission I can either switch back to SG mode (for Prestige/Salvage) or stay as I am (collect Exp/Inf/Salvage.)

On Teams:
The same usually applies, deciding on how much of something I need dictates how I run, teams do increase Salvage drops so I would perhaps switch between modes many times during play.

One more thing of some import to remember, when you switch modes it might take a few moments for it to register (it does when you SK/Exempt/Un... Lag/Ping/Server/Client etc. reasons)

I forgot to add this, it helps you earn influence quickly... and applies to your question.

When you win Enhancements that you don't need, do not sell them all at one store.

I have watched people do this and done so myself, but its a no no... you will get jipped out of phat influence by doing this.

Ghost Falcoln in Perigrine Island sells all types yet specializes in only Magic Enhancements, therefore if you sell to him you will only get good influence return for Magic SO's or DO's with Magic as one of its Properties.

Best Place to sell Enhancements for all Levels is Talos Island, whatever level or type of Enhancement... you can sell in Independance Port as well, but for purposes of speed access and availability Talos makes more sense... stores are closer together, Green Line, FF, PI, SC and Striga Island Ferry are/converge there, you might say that Talos is the Nexus for Enhancement selling (or just how I see it.)

Sell Training Enhancements at STORES; Magic SO's/DO's MAGIC STORES; Science SO's/DO's SCIENCE STORES etc. etc... it is worth the extra bit of time it takes to visit each store for each type of Enhancement, your influence will grow in leaps and bounds instead of a trickle by doing this.

This is one way to maximize influence earning while continuing to allow the best chance for Salvage finding (and earning Prestige/Exp as well :D)
