GW vs. FFXI

I originally left FFXI for GW because of the money factor. And I have to say I LOVE this game. I love it enough, not to leave it, however.........................

Im willing to pay the 20-30 $$ per month for what I left now. It took me a while, but I realize now WHY you pay for certain games, and why others are free. This game is awsome, and I intend to play it out till they no longer offer it. But after seeing the game quality, and the amount of options and game choices you can make between the games................sure, i got 25$, take it.

anyone else feel the same as I?

like i said, im not downing this game, and I WILL NOT leave it, too addicted. just guess ill be a 2 gamer kinda guy for a bit...cuz these free onliners just dont take care of the customer as much as the pay ones do.

As much as I love the Italian Stallion and his sidekicks, I would take the Greece, Carthage, or Selucid campaigns over him.

Starcraft VS. Rome Total War

RE: GW vs. FFXI

Huge differnce between one time buy and buy + fees.

The games that charge a fee get usly more income per month to be able to afford a bigger staff and or more people just to plainly help. With that larger staff. More updates, bigger world.

I would like to play a few play to play games but not in my income :(

But comparing any game is going to be hard. Every game has it's pro's and con's. Like comparing RS to .. a rock.. I'll play a rock anyday.. um wait wrong game.

Like comparing .. forget it. just going to be hard to compare any game.

if this game could incorperate an auctionhall like FFXI, it would take the cake.

RE: GW vs. FFXI

I remember when I use to play Darkages.

No not of Camalot.

A anime style game. When I played there was a close nit community and the in game mods were the players themselvs. A entire system made of Guards, Guard Captains, Judges and such.

When someone did something bad, A guard was called and it was taken care of. either being kicked out of that zone or baned from that zone for a period of time.

When I played there was 2 main zones. Each had there own guards, captains and judges. Now I belive there are more then that but to my point.

The rules was made by the players and inforced by the players ontop of the Games rules. Only time a Game Admin came in is when the need arised. I remember when hundreds upon hundreds went into a area to protest something and the ingame guards could not handle it.

Now this would stop a lot of spam because hey if you had player guards going around kicking people who spamed the chat channel with trade msgs then people would get the hint NOT TO DO IT.

Guards had their own uniform so you could reconzie them. Only way to become a guard is by votes "clout" to vote you had to be a member of that region and to be a member had to have someone pull for you to become a member.

There are bad eggs among the guards but was very easily taken care of by the Captains or judges. Not sure if this could be inplanted in GW but would be worth a shot. Anet would not have to focus on so many Report requests on Spammers or such. Someone spamming, contact a guard in game. The person is kicked from the town or muted from talking publicly.

Yes I was a guard on the game and was behind the sceens creating rules and even talked to a few game developers. Now my point is that if people will spam but more control of the game in player hands will more likely get more of a cummnity. Somone is caught going against the EULA, the power is on the players to enforce it, Along with anet.

Now if I had a more stable income You bet your bottom doller i would go back to that game. :)

Ok where was I now?

RE: GW vs. FFXI

All I can say is the only way to compare a game is how well you enjoy it, if your enjoying Guild wars then why complain? Sure theres things we wish they would add or take out but really there small things that really dont kill the overall experiance for us.

RE: GW vs. FFXI

As a "stay at home dad /Coputer Tech by day and a waiter/bartender by most night," I cannot afford any pay to play (on a monthly basis) games.

That's my $0.02.

Guild Wars has been a blessing for me! And the GameAmp community has been a sparkly gem that I stumbled across.

RE: GW vs. FFXI

I got FFXI two weeks after release date and played it religiously well into the COP expansion. I have to say I have mixed feelings between both GW and FFXI.

GW has the extremely fast leveling and gameplay which FFXI lacks. I played bard in ffxi so all I had to do was log in and I had a party within minutes, but trying to play dragoon or thief is like trying to get a group with assassin here. There are so many noobs running around thinking their class is great and x class just plain sucks and it ruins both games. Then of course you have the morons proving them right ruining it for the people who take their classes seriously.

Once people playing RPGs and MMOs realize that those types of games are designed to be a team game, and devs work very hard to make a specific roles for each job in a pt, then your enjoyment and success rates go through the roof.

What I really miss about FFXI is the skillchaining...OMG what a sweet concept for an MMO. Nothing is more fun than barding up your party and waiting for a SC, popping icarus wing for fun, adding your attack to chain and then finishing with a lowbie damage spell for MB. After that sit back and wait for the "WTF OUR BRD JUST SC AND MB?!?!!? OMGOMGWTFBBQ!!1one"

:)

Damn. That sopunds like an awesome concept. I doubt ANet would do it, but that's a really innovative and cool system. Hmmm. Time to go hit google. :D

Yes yes it is. :) This was some years ago when I played. Could of gone down the crapper by now. But who knows that is how I remember it and that is the image I have in my head. When I left it was going down hill do to some new players from another country messing up the game play with cheats.

RE: GW vs. FFXI

when comparing games you have to at least try to compare apples to apples ... therein lies the hard part cause that lies alot in your perception of the game as the where you rank it

i will say this though.. having played GW (no auction house), and WoW (which has one) .. the existence of an austion yhouse does not prevent the WTS spamms... though i see FAR less of them in WoW than i did in GW

adding an auction house isnt necessarily what GW needs in my opinion, what its needs is more content for the PvE players, and less attitude from the PvP players toward those that want in to PvP

people wont continue to shell out $50 for a weeks worth of content.. and wont keep trying to get into PvP when they keep getting ridiculed for not already having rank.

what will happen is that people will stop playing PvE, and there will be no new blood into PvP.. effectively killing both sides

the game needs to get off the fence and decide which type of game it is and go with it, or put equal effort to both sides once and for all

Not sure exactly how much the monthly fee is exactly.

It is not like runescape sence this is a download that you play. When I played was a huge community.. Start out as a peasent and only way to say become a Wizard, Warrior, Monk "combat monk not healer" was to ask someone of that profession to help you. Everytime I got a new character, most of the time walk up to a totaly stranger and ask for help. Would get tons of items, gold and such. That was a long time ago when I played not sure how the communty is now.

:) I enjoyed it and every now and again I'll get the free trial and play.
