Does anyone know how "solo friendly" this game is going to be? I have no problem with teaming, but most of the time I prefer to just run solo.

| QUOTE | | The following is a definitive statement: In The Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar, you will find solo adventures throughout the world. |
From Allan Maki's Dev Diary. The entire thing is about solo play in LOTRO.

Thanks Jeni. I've been looking for a new game for a while now. And sense I am mostly a soloist, this one might be it.
Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there, wondering, fearing, doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before.

Well they say they will be solo friendly, so that is a very good sign. Most of the new MMOs tend to focus more on grouping, this one seems to be a bit different.

I don't want to seem negative here, because this is generally one of the games that I'm really excited about...And I know that this has also been said before on the LotRO community forums...but when you look at all the classes individually, it just doesn't look like several of them will be good for solo play.
I mean, the whole role of being a Guardian is to attract hits, but if you're out there on your own with no team members to come to your aid...it's going to be hideous.

As it seems that all of the seven classes are to be able to solo all the way to epic levels, this will be easier for some classes than others.
As I see it now, the Burgler may have a hard time getting to the top without a companion to lean on.
I also am very excited to know that solo play is an option in LOTRO. There are so many nights in which I can only spend an hour or so adventuring and do not have time to spend looking for a group. Or worse, finally get into a group and then have to leave in the middle of a dungeon.

Yeah, that's just a pain for both the player leaving and the group. They have stressed that LotRO will be solo-able for the most part. Until we see how the classes are actually balanced, we'll have to reserve judgement. However, if you are a member of a good active kinship, then looking for a group will take considerably less time than if you were not.... for the most part :P.

Yes, I agree. The goal would be to join an active kinship.
One additional problem that I have heard is that because it is so easy to solo, most people do not want to group as it lowers their xp gain.
I do not see grouping as a loss of xp, because with partners, the ability to slay faster and more efficiently can only lead to increased xp.

Yeah, making it very solo-able will make it harder to team. I know there are xp freaks that figure out the max xp curve. But I still think (and hope) most players don't make that the highest priority. I think players will put less effort to find a team, since they don't really have to, and once in their dungeon they are not available anymore to team. Maybe I am weirdo, but I never teamed (or solo'ed) for the better xp. Teaming is fun, especially with a great Kinship. Solo-ing is fun when you don't have the time or when not in the mood to talk. But I have a positive feeling that a lot of LOTRO players will be like me. Just the fact we are in a kinship and not a guild already proves that.

Very well Said, Phedre. I am the same way in that I join a game hoping for a great community feel. LotRO *already* has that, and evidenced by the fact that we have almost 80 members in the GCoA, an *overwhelming* majority feel the same way as we do. =)
How cool is that?

That is very cool!
I feel the same way about grouping...exploration is much more fun when you are with friends. It's hard to brag about how great your character is or how you toppled a major villain when no one is around to see it :) Isn't that a part of MMOs? If one is unwilling to participate with others or show others your skills at character building and combat technique, might as well stick with single player console games.
That being noted, I'm on way to learn more about the GCoA...
