One of the easiest ways is to change your Follow Aggressive to Follow Defensive you can do that by right clicking the macro hitting edit and changing the Aggressive at the end to Defensive.
It will look something like this: petcom_all Follow Defensive.
Of course this is all assuming you use the Follow Macro they give you. If you don't you might want to consider making this a bind or a macro seeing as it give great control and versatility to your minions keeping them in check while also giving you Bodyguard and letting them attack an enemy if they get attacked first.
On top of this this you might want to make use of the Follow Passive feature which eliminates quite a few of the bugs associated with the Defensive feature in a tense environment.
I hope that helped if not or you want more just say so. I've got whole bunch of tricks up my sleeve that I'm willing to share.

I would definently make sure you have a bind, macro, or the button from the default set that has your henchmen "Heel". It sets your henchmen to Follow - Passive I think. It is a good get the @#$% back here when your henchmen decide to go wandering around the map on their own.
As above I am advocate of the Bodyguard function. I have my mercs on this all the time and use a second macro button that I have set as pet_com all Attack to make them attack what I want. After the target goes down the resume the Bodyguard function instead of running down more.
One macro that I have found extremely useful at the start of a fight is pow_exec Slug$$pet_com all Attack
This fires of the slug power and tells pets to attack my target all with one click instead of two. I know not much of a time saver but definently helpful, imo

Yea i say put them on defensive/follow when ur doing missions solo or w/ a team so if u get attacked or ur henchies do they will fight back and stay in defensive mode. I say use the whole aggressive follow if u plan on clearing a room out b/c it can get annoying w/ them on defensive.
If u have ever played GW the MMs (minion master) dont have a choice if their minons r defensive or offensive.
