Well, they fundamentally f-ed EoE.

Maybe there were (or will be with Nightfall) some aspects that make it unbalanced. But for me, a person who just likes to play everything a little, EoE was one of those "really cool skills that I barely ever use, but am excited by the idea of it and use it a little". This change takes away all that excitement. I have a ranger that hit Lv. 19 tonight. Guess I don't have to buy the skill for him, huh?
There are the two places I think EoE needed changed:
1) Urgoz Warden... the final boss battle is just a joke with EoE. Funny once, but dumb any more than that. This change doesn't fix anything. Groups will just bring some minor degen to get him down to 90%, then run the same EoE technique to finish him off.
2) EoE Bomb in 8v8. It is exciting that this is a possible build to run or have to fight. It's overspecialized, and therefore suffers serious weakness and is not overpowered. The one element that debatably makes this build too powerful is using a rez technique that works through Frozen Soil (like ashes). So if this was the problem, Frozen would have been the skill that needed changed, not EoE. And for those of you who say "I hated fighting EoE anyways", yeah, everyone could bitch about the build they don't use. I say instead just roll with it and try every build once or twice just for the fun of something different. I haven't used EoE bomb for 4-6 months, but I don't want this build become extinct itself.
Like I said, I don't use it much, but the idea was exciting... now... not so much. ANet, why not just remove the skill? (ps - yeah, exaggeration, but still)

well, ty for the info, never was a big user of EoE anyway.
All lies and jest, still a man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest.

Well I am a big user of EoE
But I don't mind the update in fact..
Urgoz mobs are all trapped anyway and EoE is only really useful for me when mobs got more than 50% hp left.. that's when it starts kicking..
Just means you got to trap in the right places ;-)
For Urgoz itself... I got 2 or 3 nukers that can easily bring him under 90% hp =)
This update just makes it more of a challenge... Which I don't mind =)

This nerf has been made for 1 purpose only; to stop EoE bombing in AB before the match has started. One time ive seen half luxons suddenly die, then i noticed EoE condition icon in my screen. Putting the affect to 90% HP before effect makes sure that an EoE bomb cannot be set off, or at least be effective, until the battle has begun.
imho a fair nerf. Never been a fan of EoE anyway. It can make things easy in missions, but it can backfire like hell (and in a PUG team, thats mostly the case).

a good eoe hits people with energy surge before saccing.. therefore not completely eliminating eoe... i thinks it was more to avoid certain inhumane acts (eoe bombing the children) see videos section. im sure this will annihilate the light of dwayna eoe res repeat builds, and yes eoe was annoying however i loved countering it with vital blessing + that one ranger spirit

In my opinion a poor solution to a problem in AB.
Once again PvP screws over PvE or at least thats how I feel about this - seems like a quick and dirty fix.
But we live, learn and move on... nothing else we can do.
Surely there was a better way... like the inability to cast spirits until after the timer is done - thats my quick and dirty solution.
*edit yes thats true EoE on the children would be stop through this update - something I'm happy with. However again there are better ways around that... in my opinion at least.*

Every nerf is overcomable. Remember the so called MM-nerf? MM's never became more popular after that. They nerfed the amount of minions; but maintaining them bacame easier by which mm's actually became more powerfull.
And indeed; maybe PvP screws skills up for PvE use; but put a brutal barrage on a monster and its on 90% of health. Just takes 1 shot more.

agree 100%, no idea why you would want to screw up a skill in PvE to fix a goofy ab glitch.

Eh, I agree that this nerf probably wasn't the greatest solution to the problem. (Why not just make everyone immune to self-saccing before the timer goes off?)
But it's not the worst thing Anet could have done. EoE was intended to be a finishing move anyway, once you nuke the enemies and they're all close to dead, just spike one and they all die. Not meant for being the only move.
Plus, having EoE there probably blocks us from noticing another awesome method for mass destruction. I can't wait to see what concept people are gonna come up with next!

I have nothing to say that wasn't already said, but yeah, seems they're doing a fine job of screwing things up in the name of balance and glitch fixing. I hope this is a temporary fix for the real issue. EoE was always so much fun to use in PvE.
