Fow Armor is a gold sink. It was placed in the game too remove the gold from the economy therby keeping it healthy.
Ectos are so hard to get b/c if they dropped like wood, silk etc FoW armor would be much easier to come by therefore defeating the purpose. I myself am over halfway there and can't w8 to get my first set.
More than anything it is a sense of accomlishement, at least if you get it without buying gold,

some people, develop builds that they dont release into mainstream use that allow them to famr ectos quickly, i have 2 guildies in my guild who can farm 10 ectos a day easily if they try hard one of them is just about to get his second set of FoW, they're record is 26 smites and 5 coldfires all at once!

I can safely say SOME people that have foW armors got it because of some site selling item for guildwars.
Fact: I have friends who play this game for 15-18 months, 8 hours a day, doing foW and UW daily when america have favor only have collected 46 etco and x amount of shards.
So, if you meet people saying they farm the crafting material.. it is about 15 percent foW and Uw farming - 85 percent web site farming :D

i got mine by chest running i just figured out the loop hole to get the best stuff ive gotten 2 perfect chaos now and sold em both off for around 400k ea. just keep trying till u find ur nitch thats all it really takes

well, took me a year to save up enough to stand in ToA and buy a considerable amount of shards and ectos, i had farmed about 50% of the ectos, and about 25% of the shards. The rest I had to buy, and buy from saving cash ty.

When i started to think of FoW armor,the guild setup a "spidercap service"(lvl 20 spider you can cap from reward in Uw) best run ever, think I got 4 ectos and the fee from customer +alot of Xp not to foget =)
Must say.makin gold (customer fee) while farmnig ectos must be the fastes way i heard of..
Anyways it took me under a month to farm/buy all ectos, shards and martials.
Im aware of antifarm script that is on now so might take longer then "back in the days"
I even had my sup vigor and absorption runes with me.
So my advice do services ,runs,farm and you have your armor in notime...
Go for it!

If chest drops are random, how is there a loop hole to get perfect items? Anyway back on topic, I know plenty of people who got their FoW armor the hard way, I plan to also.
As for better farming builds the monk I usually go with can take the the first grp of aataxes along with the quest at the same time (its so fast too) then we finish off the wandering aataxes go to the simtes and can do them in 2 grps. 1 grp for the lower level, 1 grp for the upper level. best run I ever had was 7 ectos 4 for me 3 for him:)
depending on how we feel we can clear the chamber too and go outside to get the last huge grp of graspings (black dye frequently)

Atm im planning on getting my 1st set of FoW for my mesmer. I recon itll take a heck of a time considering that usually it takes 1 week of farming (mo-fr 7pm - 22 pm sa+su 11am - 20pm) to gain enough cash for 15k armours. considering the fact that ill need what; 100 ectos and shards itll be a long time project to do; but it gives me summat to do in GW :D

about the chest there is perrfect items out fo them I think there is 5 chest in each zone 3 will be purple to will be gold or somthing like that.

Best way to get cash is to farm 'til your arse goes numb and GW is yelling at you to take a break!
I have a solo FoW build and am now farming UW solo as well, higher risks but great returns.
Another way is to donate, I've 2 manned UW with a guildy and given him all the Ectos so that he could save and likwise for me.
The only quick fix is a lucky gold chest down in the deep atm, that way you can sell your perfect gold drop for stupid prices!
Play more, get more, spend more!
