Could be the experienced players are the same amount, and spread over a larger area ? Or they are busy organising the guild and/or doing PvP, GvG....
I dunno... some areas are really starved out. Hard to get a mission done sometimes...
And since I have to be nice when saying things... I probably should quit typing for now :-)

I had one friend who has helped me from almost the start [Lions Arch]. Over a year ago i met Drag and hes helped me ever since and we stayed friends ^^.
Also other peolpe who helped never play any more or come on once a month.

Well... If you mean the people who helped you when you just started.... I must say 6 months ago my list of on-line friends was bigger then my list of off-line friends.. Now it's the other way around...
And I do have to ask about this guy who helped during my first weeks in pre-searing. He gave me a bow when I went into post, and I kept it somewhere untill the desert. Ok, I was a reward-bow, but I have fond memories of that bow (kinda like your first car you know... or first girl-friend, whatever...). Haven't seen him on-line in quite some time. Have to ask...

When I was first starting out a random guy (level 20) helped me with a ton of missions, and quests. He even gave me a stack of Iron and gold to craft armor. He also gave me a maxed Shield, and a Firery Dragon Sword. He definately was the coolest dude I've met on the game. And I still use the FDS today.

when i first started i had a great helper, he gave me my first fiery dragon swords, and the crimson carapace shield(stances)..he helped me get armor, learn how to use my proff. to the fullest, all that. then he was just gone....never on anymore....which i still have the shield and sword.....and i decided to do the same...found a lil newbie of my own to adopt, gave him a fiery dragon sword and a shield, helped him with materials, and im currently helping him with missions and quests....just feel, hey, someone took the time to do it for me, i can do the same

Most of the people who helped me when I first started playing don't play anymore. I know this largely because they were reallife friends, or because they stopped playing several months before my first guild broke up.
Then there are the people on here that helped me for a while, and a lot of them aren't around either as far as I know. People like Mann, DexAholic, blackpheonix, lani, and Swamp_Fox aren't really active on Guild Wars anymore. A few of the people are, like UCCat, but even they aren't as active as they were when I joined the site.
Thankfully, now I'm good enough at the game to stand on my own, and I don't really need the help anymore, but at the beginning it really was useful to have advice and some monetary aid to help me get started.

i remember this one guy in pre. I had just started on my ranger and didn't know jack. He took several hours of his time to help me quest and go to post. Then when we reached post he gave me a really nice max dmg, req. 8 14^40 10/9(back when that was good), +7 armor bow. I still have it.
Because of what that one person did I often like to take the time to help completely new players and show them the ropes.

I first started playing guild wars a week or so after it first came out..so i consider my self and old school player. Then yes there where a good many people and alot of helpful people too. There were no 55monks or super farming groups then. And the biggest thing was not everyone was in a guild back then, there were always alot of solo players in no guild to play with. I thats part of the reason why we dont see too many great great players just haning around an area helping with quests...but dont get me wrong because some still do.
Great players have hooked up with other great players and formed UW and FoW teams, HoH and HA teamns, and now alliance battle and faction farming teams. There is alot more things for people to do together and require great players and teamwork. Many also probably run most missions and quests together to avoid having repeated failures because a team that is used to working together, even going into the unknown, has a better chance to survive because they each know how the others play.
I still remember the guy i teammed up with in pre my very first day...a necro named grave rott, Ive still got im on my friends list but I havent seen him on in a long long time. I also remember my first guild, Sentinals of the Myst, we all leveled to 20 together before there were runners and power leveler and FDS where the most sought after weapons. I dont really see them around anymore either.

i was in droks one day and this 55 monk partyed with me ,i had no clue who he was ,he power lved me,gave the 55 weps and stuff im like WTF was that about O.O i mean i really appreiate it but he just gave me like 10k in free goodies :)

I take serious offense to that, i go out of my way to help other players. I spent two hours explaining the differece between mods and how to pc weapons to a new players so dont tell me that people aren't helpful anymore.

most of them, no ... some of them yes, still on my friends list and were good friends ... actually now most of them tend to come to me for help :P but yea ...
as for where I dissapeared... during this summer, I noticed I was way to addicted to guildwars, and decided to quit/take a break .... I did my official quit so people knew what was going on with me ... and now that I have a little more time, Im kind of getting back into it, but not as hardcore. :) cheers

didnt work out very well for my first character
i got to southernshiver without much help then i had to depend on my guild to get me through thunderhead keep
oh and the experienced players probably are in factions trying to sell stuff for extremely ridiculous prices

I used to help people all the time with random quests, kinda a 'Where shall I go help today?' thing.
I got sick of ppl never saying 'Thanks', begging cash or items and whispering me demanding that I stop what I'm doing to run them/level them/do their mission for them while they bugger off for dinner.
Maybe ANet can include a Manners tutorial with Nightfall :(
