Quick Spines Question

What's the difference between Ripper and throw spines? and how come according to the character builder, ripper does more damage than throw spines if they both get 3 ticks, is that true, if so whats the point of throw spines? Are ripper or throw spines even worth getting?

RE: Quick Spines Question

Well one difference is Throw Spines is a slightly ranged power while Ripper is a melee power. Throw Spines is good for killing those blasters with repulsion field, but that's too situational.

Oh, Throw Spines does less damage than Ripper. To me that makes sense because Spines a is a melee power set and shouldn't have a overly powerful ranged attack.

RE: Quick Spines Question

Ripper is your highest damage attack (other than AS of course). You do a little flip in the air and come down ripping your spines crosswise in front of you. It is a tight cone attack with a very short range, so you can hit multiple mobs with it as long as they are all right in front of you and within melee range.

Throw Spines is a ranged attack in which you fling spines out in front of you in a wide arc.

The DoT from both attacks to which you are referring is from toxic damage. All spines attacks do primarily lethal damage, but there is a small DoT component of toxic damage. The toxin not only causes a small amount of damage, but has the nice effect of slowing your opponents' movement and recharge speed.
