Buying the expansion?

So just curious who all is going to be putting there hard earned cash into blizz's hands yet again? In short are you buying the expansion?

I know I am. I'll be picking up my copy as soon as humanly possible. I'm really hoping for a pre-order option with hopefully a benefit or two. And they better have a nice lil collectors edition for me to waste even more money on.

RE: Buying the expansion?

I'll be getting it whenever it comes out. Not going for a souped up version, however, the regular box will be fine with me. Have yet to decide if I will work hard to level my lvl 60 toon up to 70 or if I will role one of the new races and play it a lot.

RE: Buying the expansion?

November 28th!!! That's almost December...almost 3 months from now...gah...oh well, gimes me time to lvl up my guy to 60 I guess...

Wouldn't you think you'd have to upgrade to the Expansion to keep playing? I mean, unless they just make 60 new servers for expansion I guess...I dunno. How would they go about that?

Well most MMOs these days don't use 1 server for each "realm" anymore. The realms in WoW are actually made up of many servers connected together. When the new content is added all they would have to do is make it so that most of the new stuff is on a new server added to the small server cluster that is your individual realm. Make it so that you need the code from "Burning Crusade" to access that new server. At least that is the first way I can think of to do it.

The new area of Outland is supposedly throught the Dark Portal in the Burning Steppes anyways. That would be the most likely place to transistion you from one server to another. My big question is will people without the expansion still be able to enter the new starting zones for Draenei and Blood Elves or not? Would be tough to come up with an in-game excuse for why not.

But anyways... there is supposed to be a patch (1.13 from what I understand) that will have the necessary "Burning Crusade" information in it for all players to continue interacting whether they get the expansion or not.

RE: Buying the expansion?

I won't be getting it. I still have plenty to do with what there is in the game to begin with. I read somewhere that the raise in level cap is going to be for everyone, not just for people that buy the expansion.

RE: Buying the expansion?

The expansion will just open the outlands map area to players, the new dungeon (Old Tauren Mill, it looks really cool) And will open the new jewlcrafting, slotted weapons, enchants and level cap will be raised. What will happen is the players without the expansion will not be able to talk to the new NPCs because you wont see them.
Nothing will change much besides level 70s can now beat you up.
Also the new dungeons now have a 25 man limit, this includes MC and BWL. There will be no more 40 man dungeons. So you do not have to have the expansion to interact with other players but you will not be able to level up beyond 60 and not be able to learn the new professions or get the new high level enchants (including slots)

EDIT:

Also forgot to add, you cannot play the new classes either. You should be able to access the new starting areas however because I believe (unless they change it) those will be on the regular maps. The Outlands will be just the level 60-70 area, which will be accessable by Netherdrake and dark portal. You however will not be able to talk to the NPCs I believe. (dont quote me on the last part though im still unsure of that)

RE: Buying the expansion?

Like BP and Rogue I'm not planning on getting the expansion as of yet. Maybe down the road some after I've seen everything that is in the current game I'll look into getting it. But there is still so much for me to do in game right now.

RE: Buying the expansion?

I think I will get it, I won't mind not being at 60 if I'm not by the time the expansion rolls out, so it doesn't both me. Plus, getting to run around through level 70 monsters as a 55 or something can be fun... :D

Because even if you arn't level 60 ro don't wanna buy it yet, you're gonna buy it one day, why not sooner, so you can at least have it implmented so when you finally get up high enough you won't have to buy it then...
Just my thoughts...

They will probably do kind of what they did in guild wars when factions came out, have you enter a key-code into your account from the WoW website from the burining crusade box, then, next time you load WoW, there will be a small update(just for you) that adds content such as the new place(i forget what its called).

OR Bliz will have you put in a key-code, then they will activate it on your account.
