Just a question to all MMO addicts

Ok i've always wanted to ask...

What draws you to a mmo

community, story/lore, peer pressure, or name alone?

personally i usually pick one on the story/lore.

1. Shiney bits! Its it a pretty game? Am I willing to spend hours and days and months of my life looking at it? This includes playability.

2. Community. Are there going to be people I want to play with? Or, am I going to spend all my time trying to ignore the people around me?

3. Storyline. Can I grasp the stories going on? or am i only meant to see the itty bitty bit of the world a casual player will ever know without spoiler sites?

Just the gameplay, the world draws me in...

Like in Guild Wars..., the world looked alot like WC3 /drool =)

Fun is what draws me to an MMO... If I play it and have fun doing so thats all that matters. Nice graphics, story, community are just an added bonus.

1) Community. Don't wanna play a game full of powergamers, ubers, leets, noobs, and other internet scourges.

2) The Catch. Why is this game unique? What's the ONE thing about it that makes you go "WOAH! A feature/gameplay/mode/option/story like THAT!?! AWESOME!!!"

3) Playability. Can I play by myself? Can I play with my girlfriend and just her through the whole game? Are MAJOR groups an option or required?

4) The World. Something unique, or a map that's like "WOOOOAH!" or something that's completely off the wall. Boring plains that roll for miles are kinda dumb..

5) Customization. How customizable is your character and skills? Can you be unique? Can you take a variety of powers? Is there an extensive tech tree? Are you more than just a clone of everyone who takes your path?

For me, these issues are KEY. I like a helpful community, an interesting catch, ability to play mostly by myself or with girlfriend, a new and amazing world, and the ability to customize TONS o' things.

Im a roleplayer of some sorts. Im only 15, but I do ALOT of acting, so its only natural that I play a role. Plus its cool to be able to control ice, or instantly heal someone, or kill a dragon when you cant do that in real life.

Honestly, how many of you out there would abandon almost everything to get the choice to pick like 3 super powers to use the rest of your life?! The fact that your in a wwrld, creating a character to your likes, and you can meet people just as cool (or just as wacky/out there) as you, rocks.

The 1 thing that would make MMOs the best games in the world would be if you didnt have to pay monthly lol. But then the people who run the servers couldnt feed the hamsters or replace the old ones with new ones! =P

Originality would be the biggest thing that draws me to an MMO. Like with CoH it was the only MMO (that I knew about) that let you make your own superhero...

Then I'm involved with the peer pressure part....I get a new MMO and tell everyone they should buy it cause its the best game ever.

First thing that draws me in is the Shiny stuff and the concept.

What keeps me there is the community, the Storyline, and how well done the concept is.

Community! I started in Cybertown not really a MMO but 3d chat world and a great community when they had a first person shooter called the Morph Wars. They took that away and I wasn't
interested anymore. So I'd say it was also great gameplay and roleplay that drew me in.

I read aboot C0H for awhile, and had 2 coworkers who were into it. So I joined. I'm still playing while they've both moved on.

Well, I never was drawn to MMOs until CoH and then WoW...

I was always a big RP person, but the lack of RP (Or semi intelligent people on the servers. Example: "what is rp" question.... if you dont know what RP is.. dont get on the RP server darn you!)kinda made me a little... sad.

So... I met a ton of new friends in the game, the fantasy/sci-fi stuff reallly draws me in, including story lines and gameplay...

Great times...

I have to agree with a lot of stuff being said already and thats "Shiny"

but also I Story gets me in the way that I want a interactive story i see them in a way as a creative outlet. I've always been sort of a writer and they seem to provide a great atmostphere for me.

Story usually draws me in, tho most of the time its more peer pressure than anything. concept wasn't a big deal til CoH came around.

on the subject of shiny bits, I've never oogled a MMO on graphics... "shiny bits dont make a great game" i.e. EverQuest or Asheron's Call for that matter

I saw the game and was like Cool! I gotta play that. I started with SWG cause I am an old SW fan, but I got out of it cause all the blasted drama in it. Saw CoH grabed it and started playing it, then moved to WoW.
