Help with Tankers

im gonna start CoH back up and was wondering if i could have some help on some Tanker builds. The 2 tanks i wanna try are Ice/Ice (this one will be a dedicated Aggro Hog) and a Fire/Axe (more damage based) any help with the builds would be great.

ummmm Axe is a great set a bit slow but powerful (well it says alot of high damages and supeior) i would suggest getting the ususal tank stuff first (fire shield blazing aura healing flames etc etc etc) as for the attacks most of them are single target attacks so just take the highest damaging ones (beheader chop....) put definetly take whirling axe cleave and pedulum. if i was making this char i would
all primarys
gash 1 or 2 dam 1 acc
taunt 3 taunt duration 2 recharge 1 range (if gunna pvp drop 1 recharge and put in acc
Swoop 2 or 3 dam 1 acc
whirling axe 3 dame 2 acc
cleave 3 or 4 dam 1 acc
pendulum 3 or 4 dam 1 acc

saying this i would not build a tank for damage against my nature my level 50 tank aint got more than 4 slots in any attack (bar taunt) and most aint even got that

RE: Help with Tankers

i'd say energy is better for PvP. since axe is all smash/lethal dmg, its highly resisted in PvP. and energy melee has high burst damage.

my thoughts on making any toon for PvP would be to build it for PvE, then use the respecs to model it how you want it. if you go for a straight PvP build the whole way thru, you could possibly be setting yourself up for a slightly PvE gimped build. i started my ice/ice tank out as a straight PvE tank, but since i've started to enjoy PvP, i'm going to use my last respec to get him into PvP form once i hit the 50.

if you want any tips on an ice/ice build, let me know. its a great set for managing aggro and has some pretty fun little toys to play with. there is a great possibility that i'll be publishing an ice/ice tank power guide in the immediate future because tonight if my first evening of working 5pm to 330am for 3 weeks and i'll have lots of time on my hands.

RE: Help with Tankers

stone is tops after 32 for defense because of granite armor.
the downside to granite is: -rechg, -dmg and being incredibly slow. ** someone with a stoney comment on the -dmg i'm not sure if i'm right **

stone is my least favorite of the tank armor sets because of the slowness. i cant get over it to make a stony.

from what i hear about the stone attacks, they arent too shabby. good variety, middle of the road set. not the best but better than some.

Slow.

That's pretty much it, with granite (full body coverage, awesome damage resistance & defensive bonuses) and rooted (mes/knockback/knockdown/stun protection) you are slower than molasses on a cold winter's day. Darn near invulnerable, but slow as hell.

Teleport is pretty much a requirement for in mission movement, unless you are on a good team. Make any and EVERY kinetic your friend, you will absolutely love their help. With my stone tanker, I have swift 3 slotted with SOs, and when I don't teleport from area to area, I downgrade to rock armour to scout out the next group. With rock armour and rooted and swift, I move about regular unenhanced speed (ie. lvl 1 toon without sprint on).

It is enjoyable though, I'm stone/super strength. You just have to "create" your weapon everytime you begin your attack or if you do something that makes you "put it away". Still for everything involved, you do great damage, just a little slower.

Later,
Krulgur

I'll take it!

Stone melee was actually my first tank secondary, but i havent tried it since december of last year. from what i've seen and felt, it hits really hard. i battled a stone melee brute yesterday in sirens. he was 32 and i was 40 and he smacked the snot outta me a few times, but he was never able to kill me. some of those attacks pack a wallop! but i'm sure brim can give you a better analysis of stone melee. if i'm not mistaken, his 50 tank is fire/stone.

RE: Help with Tankers

i would go with a different secondary, i find stone to be a little slow, and i think its just smashing damage, but correct me if i am mistaken. i have an ice-axe tank and the classic invuln-ss tank, but im thinking about invul-energy tank, ive worked with them and they seem like it works.

RE: Help with Tankers

I myself think that the stone armor set is the best defence out there. Having to take teleport so you'll move around quickly with Rooted and Granite Armor on is a small price to pay for great defence.

(Oh and Stone has tons of other resistances, like fire, cold, negative, confuse, and all the resistances to sleeps, holds, etc.)

RE: Help with Tankers

Yeah I was thinking either stone/stone or stone/fire that would be something different. Again your opinion would be appreciated.
