What is this free Respec?

Ok, from the main page, I read the thread about this Free Respec being given to all players when issue #3 goes live. Ok... forgive my ignornace, but is this issue #3, just a patch that they will send out, and if so, does anyone know when it comes out?

Also, what is this free respec they keep mentioning? I know I know..I have much to learn. lol Thanks for being patient! :)

Also, I keep hearing about a test server.. what is this? :) Ok..no more questions from me for a week. LOL

Issue 3 is a new contents update, like a big patch, it will add new content to the game, such as issue 2 that added capes, auras, new villains, new zones. i3 will add new power pools at L41, and at L50 u can choose to "evolve" i think it consists of merging with an alien to become a new archetype, in other words new powers and abilities on top of your L50 character which means essentially u go beyond L50 (54? no idea up to what lvl the game will now go)

A RESPEC trial is a trial you endure (like a task force a series of missions) where at the end you earn the right to respecialise(?) your character, you can't change origin, archetype, primary or secondary pools, but u can change power pools and the powers you take in primary and secondary, as well as all your enhancement slots. You can get these at lvls 24-33, 34-43, 44+ . A free RESPEC would rock, and they'd probably only implement it due to the new power pools at 41, but this is the first I hear of it *heads of to official forums*

EDIT: after hitting the official boards and coming back here to see thejeni way ahead of me in news (again ;) ) yes, there will be a free respec, which is great, this means that you can do all the things i mentioned b4 without wasting one of the 3 u have to work for! Also means if ur close to 41, u can use it to adjust ur powers to complement ur new power pool! Great stuff!

the test server is a special server you can download (you can find out where on the offical site) that the dev's test things they want to change in game... you can copy your characters over to the test server and test the changes, reporting bugs (or just trying out the new stuff).... for full details on it you can go here. and read the 1st post (the names in red are the devlopers for the game).

oh and if we aren't going to hear any more questions out of you for a week what ever will we have to do?

I thought that I had read in one of the threads that the free respec was only going to be on the test server. Did I miss a thread that says it will be given to all heroes on live server?

According to the main site, they are giving everyone a free respec once issue #3 hits the mainline. Woot! A Christmas present I probably won't get to use until my character gets high enough in 2005! ;)

They are new archetypes, not an increase to the level cap.

is the same info, but is the main page for new features
upcoming in the game, or already present. Bookmark it
and visit it often :-)

Also the Dev Digest on the official boards is the
pain-free way to only read posts by devs, and easily keep
oneself up to date. There's barely 5-10 posts a day
usually unless Statesman gets excited :-)

I did say that u become a new archetype, which takes u beyond L50, I worded the next part badly, just meant that I'm not sure how many lvls u can take the new archetype...

Sorry, but there is no evolution. That was just speculation
from early posters on the official forums when there was
little information.

Kheldians are just archetypes #6 and #7 in the game, and
start at level 1 like everyone else and advance to level 50
like everyone else.

If you own at least one level 50 character on any server,
you can use any remaining open character slot to make
a Peacebringer or Warshade.

It's a cool idea, but that's not how the devs chose to
implement Kheldians.

yup sad to say the new at are only opened once you get one char up to lvl 50... but that character really has nothing to do w/ the lvl 50 char you already have... that is why so many people are throwing a fit about having more end game content added.. but as of yet they aren't adding more (other than those epic power pools)... but you will be able to create as many of the new at's as you like after you get that one to lvl 50.

oh and as a side note, i try to keep up with the offical forums (ahhhhh) as much as i can, and when ever i see anything that i think should be brought to everyone's attention i add it to our news section

Oh, okies :) sorry about that then, I was totally misinformed, or i just misunderstood, I think I was talking to someone who had made one on the test server and got a little confused, probably late, thanks for clearing that up for me though :)

That's if you want pretend your top guy did become a

I might skip Kheldian in favor of another epic AT, if
only because States has said some of the epic ATs will
be unlocked from task forces, not level 50. (Of course,
the minimum level for the task force is a de facto level
minimum, but it'd probably be a lot lower than 50. Some
dataminers looking at issue #3 on test server have seen
backstory for a "fishman," and SPECULATE there will be
an underwater AT, as Statesman's favorite comic book
character is Namor, the Sub-Mariner, from Marvel Comics.)

We'll see. Forum speculation is one thing. Info on the
main CoH site is quite another :-)

but they have stated when making a kheldian char you will encounter storylines that the regular at's do not have access to, it is a whole new world opening up w/ them... i feel i HAVE to at least try one (in a few months when i hit lvl 50 that is) to see what some of the new stories will be

wanted respec really bad for issue 3 before I knew about the free one... exemplared down. I was the only healer. I had to exemp to the lowest character..........

6 deaths, ending with 150k debt afterwards, got my respec... 56k per death, so I ended up lucky to come out with as little as I did.

and to find out I had a free one coming... ironic, very ironic...

You do get a badge or two out of the respec trial by my recollection. I died twice on it too. I was actually in it for the badge(s). Could care less about respec'ing. So this one will just sit in my menu too. I had thought about swapping out some of my melee powers (blaster), but I exemplared the other day and now remember why I took them in the first place. And it was fun! Guess I'll keep them and the respecs for some other time.

Rate other people's posts to give them feedback. I will frequently rate the first post of a new topic at least a 3, because that person is keeping the forums busy. I also will rate posts on how helpful they were to me, or how helpful I deem them to others. Please rate my posts to let me know if they have been useful to you.
