I installed Directx 9c on my computer, but when I go to detect it in guild wars it says I'm still running Directx 8. Does anyone know what I need to do to make it recognize the updated version? Thanks.

You might have a hardware level of dx8, meaning your video card doesn't support dx9.

I got the same problem. It makes me mad too because it interfears with xfire ingame. I keep having to minimize guild wars when someone messages me. Or I have to manually update the game log file to change it to direct x8, but every 3-4 days, it reverts itself.

What graphics cards do you guys have. Also, check your shortcut and make sure "-dx8" is not in your Target box. GW uses DX9 by default, if it cant use DX9, then something is wrong with the install or your card doesnt support DX9.
Also try clicking Start > Run > dxdiag
Click Display and make sure DirectDraw and Direct3D is enabled, then click the Test DirectDraw, make sure that doesnt error, then do the same for Direct3D, if either one error, reinstall DX9.(remove it before installing it again) Also make sure your graphics drivers are updated.
