Do heroes level faster than Villains?

Do heroes level faster or do villains. I was watching my friend play and it seemed that villains require alot more xp to level up. Either that or hes slow.

Villains is a little tougher then Heroes, but I've been able to level way faster then I did on Heroes. I got to level 30 a whole lot faster on my Brute then I was able to on my Tank, but I'm thinking that's because of how much faster I can kill as a Brute over a Tank.

hey no diss intended home slice. some people just take longer to level than others from other circumstances. its all gravy.

and welcome to the site, seeing as this is your first post.

i think redscout's right about villains being a little bit harder to level early in your career. mercy island is huge for a small toon to run around and a pain in the arse as opposed to atlas park or galaxy city.

yet another reason IMO coh > cov

Yes but mercy island is nowhere near as hard to navigate as the hollows. Villains have newspaper mishes which can be used to lvl very fast (ask nogame and ron).

RE: Do heroes level faster than Villains?

*nods* Newspaper missions (and up coming radio missions in CoH) allow you to level extremely fast. Use Super Speed and a Stealth power and you can complete a mission in just a couple minutes. With a good build, you can get yourself on the highest difficulty, speed to the last room, wreck shop on the boss and his minions and finish it up. You can be in the next mission before you can say "Hey, my hasten isn't recharged yet!"

My villain, RonJ73, went through levels 1-40 extremely quickly (not sure exactly how many hours). Once radio missions are available in Heroes, I suspect Onion will be 50 shortly after.

RE: Do heroes level faster than Villains?

is it just me or that a silly question?

You could easily find out if they take longer by making 2 characters ( 1 on each Co) and comparing em

lol...Never thought I'd see this asked. It's actually the other way around. Villains level faster than heroes for sure. Not because of different XP values, though. Just because Villains have a lot more missions *infinite, actually..* and they can all solo well. Blowing through solo missions at a rate of about 7-10 per hour depending on the mish and your build = insane EXP. Heroes have less missions which = less EXP. Hopefully Issue 8 will fix this though, since Heroes will be getting the Police Scanner missions.

RE: Do heroes level faster than Villains?

That really only works if a few factors are true.

1) Most importantly...you need to HAVE both games.

2) Certain archetypes played by certain people level faster than others. I might be GREAT at leveling a scrapper, but I could suck insanely when it comes to leveling a stalker.

3) Power selection. Certain archetypes powers are just better suited for a certain set of levels.

Simply put, there are too many factors to say one way or another.

RE: Do heroes level faster than Villains?

Villains can level faster like Ron said because of the newsies. NO TRAVEL TIME! At least compared to CoH. I mean wouldnt you rather take a Scansie(?) when they go live while you are leveling 35 to 40 in Founders Falls and NOT have to leave the Zone for say Kings Row, or Brickstown. I mean I can have two newsies done by my Corruptor in the time it takes my Blaster to transit to the mission.

Also, add in the fact that many of the Villain AT's have some sort of heal which can keep them from the Hospital for a bit longer than the Heroes. I know that I wish my Eng/Eng Blaster had the heals that my Rad/Rad Corruptor has. I solo with the Blaster at just above the speed of sludge compared to the light speed my Corruptor can do. Also Corruptors are what Blasters should have been IMHO. Many say they are just 'backwards' Defenders, but I say: nay nay. You have Blappers in CoH, but you would never see a Corrute or Corralker in Villains. I bet you thought I was gonna say ...Self-Editting Mode is ON..., didnt ya?

RE: Do heroes level faster than Villains?

There is one other thing to keep in mind. Your first toon is almost always the slowest to lvl. I have noticed that compared to Felix (my first to 30) Demon took no time at all. Then Raz got to 30 even faster than Demon did. I really think the more familiar you are with the game the faster that you will lvl.

RE: Do heroes level faster than Villains?

Villains level faster than heroes, mostly due to less downtime because of less travel between missions. There are the inexhaustable supply of newspaper missions, as has been previously mentioned, as well as the standard story arcs. The nice thing about both is that, with very few exceptions, your contacts give you missions in the same zone! There is no wasted time running, for instance, from Atlas Park to some contact in the boonies of Kings Row who, in turn, sends you to talk to Wincott in the Hollows!

Lately, villains level even faster! Several missions grant temp powers like a jet-pack, or a jump-boost pack that allow you to travel around as if you had your standard level-14 travel power.

Villians, at the moment, have a definate advantage in leveling as already stated. Newspaper missions are great, usually short and you can plow through a ton of them on a long saturday with nothing to do but PLAY. Mayhem ... with my MM I can solo a Mayhem mission come out with my enhancement tray packed, a temp power and move up 2-3 bars. Then there is the TRAVEL time difference. With a few exceptions where a contact sends you back to another island for missions (and this is usually at higher levels and you've got travel powers in place) if your getting missions from a contact on an island.. the missions are on THAT island. The lower Islands (Mercy, Port Oakes and Cap Au Diable) never make a villain jump on the ferry and travel two islands away to run a mission and then back on the ferry to get the next... When the Devs created COH they must have been SOOOO proud of their trains they were bound and determined to make sure everyone used them. I've had contacts on COH that didn't have a single mission in the neighbohood they were standing in except.. hunt 10 of (THIS). That alone adds a LOT of time to leveling. Until that contact actually gives you the number to his/her cell phone you probably spend as much time getting back and forth to them, the mission , and back as you do running the mission. Even the way the ferry works is better and less time consuming. You enter the ferry it ask where you want to go and Poof your there. Step onto the train platform and you wait for the train your stairing at to leave before you can click the doors to ask to go anywhere. Oh and let's not forget those Hunt missions .. lmost every contact you have is eventually going to send you on one and then you get to roam the streets finding ten, 15 or 20 of THAT baddie. Does COV have Hunt missions? a couple scattered here and there (One I can recall in particular was on Sharkhead where you are supposed to interrogate the Freakshow for the location of a hideout and even that lead straight into a mission in that hideout NOT another trip back to talk to the contact). I get so tired of these I usual find a spot where the baddies are lower levels than me.. So I can take them out quick (which means almost or mo XP until I get that total I need) just so i can get to the next door mission.

And there are less islands to deal with than the neighborhoods in Paragon. Mercy, Port Oakes, Cap Au Diable, Sharkhead, Nevra, St Martial and then .. Grandville after level 40. That's 7 folks 7. By the time I reached level 20 with my scrapper on COH I'd been to 9 including 4 hazard zones. and I had numerous missions to Kings Row where (on my character) I had no contacts so no way to replenish inspirations without getting on the train AGAIN and no where to buy or sell enhancements. So even if I leveled up using Blue Steel I had to ride the rails again to buy an enhancement for the new power I just earned.

Start adding up all that travel time just getting to and from the mission to the train station and then the wait for the train... Trust me I've played both games and villians have it a lot better.

Now once the heroes get the Police Scanner and anti-mayhems it will get a litle easier but short of a complete revamp on missions that allows a hero to actually run missions in the neighborhood his contact is in.. the villians will still have the edge. Pray for a quick release of I8.. LOL

Yep those are along the Temp Powers I talked about in my previous post. Get to Port Oakes run 3 Newspaper missions and you get your first Mayhem. Take out the Hero at the bank and you get a Jet Pack.. use that wisely and its like have Fly at level 6 or 7 instead of waiting to level 14 and used wisely it will last until level 14 and you can get FLY permanently if thats what you want. No running around higher level mobs, No manuevering around block long buildings.. just soar over them! At higher levels there is even a temp power that allows you to TP your entire team to the door of a mission.

The travel time in COH alone makes it a lot quicker to level as a Villian

RE: Do heroes level faster than Villains?

I'd have to go with Villains leveling faster too if we are looking at solo play.

My thoughts on it are that the mission layout in the early levels is designed better, so less time getting from misssion to mission. And I believe there are more solo-able AT's to choose from. Even the Fire Corrupters that are the primary healers for Villains have decent DPS to wield.

If we're talking about team leveling, then just the ammount of time it takes to get to the missions I stated earlier is really the deciding factor.

On Heroes, I can get a group and go Power Level(sort of.....) large mobs in Perez and then the Hollows. Don;t forget Sewer runs. On Villains we can complete missions faster.

Really, once you get the early level grind for each game down a little, they both level at approximately the same pace. You just have to do it a little differently.
