I'm a little confused about how the Heroes work with Party dynamics.
| QUOTE | Heroes
Nightfall brings more than a dozen Heroes to your aid as you battle against the forces of darkness. Each of these Heroes will gain experience at your side. You can even equip them with new weapons, upgrade their armor, and choose their skills for them. Best of all, you will be able to direct your Heroes in battle, telling them when, where, and whether to fight at all. You'll even be able to activate their skills for them. The amount of control is up to you. Use them like enhanced henchmen or direct them much like extra, full-fledged characters. The choice is yours. |
Ok so I get that they are basically enhanced henchies. What puzzles me is how they fit into a Party.
If these Heroes are player controlled, does that mean each Party Member (possibly 8) will have their own Heroes? I doubt it very much, as that's one HUGE Party.
Will only the leaders get control? That would probably drive more people to start henching full parties. Or fighting to be leader, which would also drive people to grab regular henchies.
How do you think they'll fit into our Parties?

Yes, I believe they only fill in normal player slots. So two people can each bring their three heroes and have a full party. Or you can ditch the heroes and go with a full group of people.

So, if they replace a Party Member, who controls it?
Say you have 7 real party members and 1 Hero, which of the 7 gets the POWER? The leader would be the obvious choice, but that would probably mean I'd always want to be the leader.
How often have you joined a team where the leader has been quite poor? The other 7 people can usually manage to maintain the group as a whole, but what if that 1 bad player is controlling half the team?
If it is how I'm thinking, this is going to drive the game more and more to the Single-Player type RPG. With the exception of Guild Groups.
So many questions... I NEED the Preview Event to be here NOW!!!
EDIT: So I join and I have a Hero, someone else comes and has the same hero....? Or someone has a hero, that their build is dependant on having, but the Party don't want it... I don't know :/ It seems there's lots of possible problems associated with it.
Although I'm looking forward to having a customizable companion. My Monk could use a Remote Controlled SS/SV :P

Looks like Swordy is right though, we'll have to wait till Friday to clear it up.
Interesting that you mentioned them like Pets, I wonder if the Pets will benefit from this additional type of Control, if they do, it looks like their AI will be very similar - suggesting perhaps they will fit into groups like Pets. Maybe one Hero reduces the total amount of Possible Party members as they are added, thus maintaining a bond with you. And not granting groups with an unfair amount of players.

I was really hoping we would be able to "create" our heroes from the ground up, including picking sexes and hairstyles and stuff, or at least being able to give them custom names.
The custom names thing wouldn't have been too big a deal, I think, even if the Heroes do have their own storyline. They can just replace "hero x name" with your custom name the way it does with your regular characters.
Even so, can't wait to try this all out!

I thought about that... but the Heroes featured on the New Nightfall info page, already have names and a past.
KOSS
A cheerful, boisterous fellow Sunspear, Koss has almost as much faith in you as he does in himself.
TAHLKORA
A headstrong young runaway, Tahlkora joins up with you to become a hero. She has to learn what that truly means.
MORGAHN
A former general in the service of the Kourna, Morgahn is betrayed by his allies and seeks vindication with your aid.
MAGRID THE SLY
A mercenary corsair, Margrid sees you first as potential targets and only later as allies.
