Coffee & LoTR

Here's a good question. I love coffee. I love coffee so much that if I am desparate enough I will drink it without creamer/Splenda in it. When LoTR finally arrives into your sweaty palms, those of you who drink coffee, how much coffee do you think you will drink that very first night? Would you drink that much coffee during a weekday, despite the fact that you may have work/school the next day? Brave the bloodshot eyes, the jitters or falling asleep at your desk/during a lecture or test? Or would you delay gratification and wait to pull all-nighters on Friday and Saturday?

I said yes to all of those questions except the delay in gratification part. I may even buy chocolate cover coffee beans as a side dish to my cup of coffee. =o

RE: Coffee & LoTR

I'm a coffee drinker. But I'm kinda immune to the effects of caffeine now, it never seems to keep me awake any more. So I don't see my intake increasing for LOTRO.

I could go for some of those chocolate covered coffee beans though. Those are just yummy!

RE: Coffee & LoTR

I'm a coffee drinker in the mornings, so the late afternoon / evening calls for something less morningish for me. So I would be buying cases of Red Bull or Jolt X2 to try and keep myself alert.

Unfortunately, at my age, my nagging sensibilities usually track me down before I've gotten too far into the night, so chances are that I won't stay up so late as to be useless the next day.... but I can still reminisce about the good ol' days ;)

Cases of Red Bull... hum... I don't think that sounds healthy at all. And I drink coffee in the moring, afternoon, and night time. That's probably not healthy either.

And sometimes you just have to ignore those sensibilities. I mean what's the point of living if you can spend an all nighter playing a wonderful MMO?

RE: Coffee & LoTR

hah At least coffee is an anti-oxidant. =) I currently drink, at the most, two cups of coffee in a day. I had to stop during my pregnancy due to morning sickness (for three months of it!) and just started drinking it again a few weeks ago. The morning sickness did not disuade me to return to the addictive substance.

If I have too much coffee I get jitters and feel a bit out to lunch. I don't want to be at that point when playing LoTR. I doctor my coffees anyway.. One cup can last a few hours. Sort of like how an IV works.

Ahhhh so you have been with out it for a while. I'm sure your body will get used to it some after a bit of time.

And I couldn't imagine one cup lasting a few hours, as soon as it is cool enough for me to drink, it is pretty much gone for me.

I'm a soda fiend, so caffeine lost it's effects a long time ago, lol. Fortunately, I'm still pretty good at staying up late w/out chemical enhancement.

But I do love a good cup of coffee. I prefer iced coffee, though, so I usually drink it in the evenings rather than in the morning. It's hard to drink warm coffee at any hour here in Florida.

I don't do the soda thing any more. I just can't stand how it makes my tummy feel after I drink it.

I do LOVE iced coffee. Mmmmmm iced coffee. I just don't get a chance to drink it much.

I dunno what it is, but drinking anything caffeinated does nothing for me, even with the fact that I hardly drink such. Can't stand the taste of coffee either. ;d

I don't like the taste of black coffee. If I don't have cream and sugar, I won't touch the stuff. But if you put enough of it in there, mmmmm yum!

RE: Coffee & LoTR

White chocolate mocha anyone? :)

I cannot stand sodas personally or anything akin to it. When I try drinking even a little it makes me feel like pewp. I used to drink quite a bit of it but then I went onto the Atkins diet several years ago, gave up soda and never have turned back since.

Caffeine from coffee will do much for quite awhile for me. The reason is because I don't overdo it. As I mentioned above it's 1 to 2 cups a day and that's it. that's all I can take. And I have been drinking coffee since college.. And I am 31 now. =)

Perhaps some folks body chemistry just does not allow caffeine to do anything. Then there are those who's threshold is just too dang high! Not mine, thank God. haha

I could totally go for a white chocolate mocha right now! If you could have that sent to my desk, it would be great *grin*

And I've been a regular coffee drinker (3-4 pots a day) for around 10 years now. I honestly don't remember a time in which it did have an effect on me. Guess I'm one of the lucky ones... or is that unlucky ones? I know I don't let my sister have coffee, she can't even drink one soda with out climbing the walls. One cup of coffee means we are scraping her from the ceiling.

Hahaha 3-4 pots a day? What the heck? LOL I would be beside myself after having 1 pot of coffee. Crawl right outta my skin I would!

I would send you a white chocolate mocha but it would be too messy I am afraid. I can just "think" one to your desk, how's that?

Well, it is usually 2 pots when I wake up (I drink till around lunch time), then 2 or so pots in the evening/night. Of course on nights I stay up late, another pot may be thrown on for something warm to drink...

And if you can think a white chocolate mocha onto my desk, I will love you forever! And maybe use you every day for one *grin*

Ok, 2 things:

1. When I came onto the site today, the 5 most recent posts were all from theJeni. Bit eerie.

2. Speaking of Miss theJeni and her 4 pot a day habit, anyone heard of a comic strip called "Fox Trot" by Bill Amend? Used to love it. Anyway, there was a storyline once where the mother, Andy, wanted the father, Roger, to start excercising. She (rightfully) sent him to the doctor first for a physical examination before starting the excercise program. At the doctor, Roger is sitting there with his shirt off, belly hanging out, and their exchange goes something like this:

Doctor: Ok, let's start with your diet. What do you usually eat?

Roger: Well, I wake up in the morning and have a coupla things of coffee...

Doctor: Ok, two cups of coffee. What else?

Roger: No, pots, not cups.

(Doctor stares dumbfounded)

Roger: Then I'll usually crack open a pack of bacon...

Doctor (to assistant): Cancel my remaining appointments.

Who would have thunk a coffee discussion would go hyper in only 2 days?

We have forums that go weeks without this much banter.

Rock on tweekers!

There can always be scintillating conversations that float around coffee. Especially when the topic is attached to LoTR. One just has to find the appropriate discussion to have it go beyond one or two posts. :P

RE: Coffee & LoTR

I, like many of you, have lost the effect caffine should bring due to drinking coffee so much over the years. I now walk into Starbucks and order one of any of their coffees that suite me that day and add 2-3 shots of espresso. For example, one of my favorites is the White Chocolate Mocha. Now normally there are I believe 3 shots of espresso in this drink, I simply add 2-3 more. The sad thing is, I barely feel the effect....sad really, lol.

No need to mourn for me. I enjoy my coffee. And if I really need to stay awake for something, I'm usually pretty good at talking my body into it. Of course when I'm really deep into a game it is a lot easier to forget the time (until that pesky sun thing comes up!).

Ahhh and that's where being spoiled comes in real handy. I have the GREATEST boyfriend ever, and he usually is the one who does the refilling.

RE: Coffee & LoTR

Speaking of caffeine effecting you or not, have you guys seen that Amp'd cell phone commercial where there is a blond chick talking about how much she loves the product.. Not sure if it's actually the cell phone but it's some kind of service. I cannot stand her because she just talks on and on.. Grates my damn nerves! Now she is a type of personality who does not need to have caffeine in any form!

Oh well. I am hoping my husband will finally want to get back into mmorpging by the time LoTR comes out. Our last mmo was FFXI. We led a guild on the Hades server and.. well, I regret we ever led it. There were a few bad, greedy, jerky apples and we basically got abused for our hard work and kindness to the overall community within the group. You work so damn hard to make sure as many people are happy as possible but there's always someone out there who could give a damn about it all. That pretty much did my husband in. We got so involved it was too much. Cross my fingers! I do not perceive the community for LoTR will be like that. It requires a different type of personality and maturity for this genre. I hope he sees that.

I can sympathize, hun! My fiance and I were guild leaders for a year and alliance leaders for 6 months in our last MMO, DAoC. It drained the life outta us! I haven't even wanted to look at another MMORPG until my fiance spotted stories about LotRO getting close to beta. This time 'round, I'm staying out of leadership roles, lol.

When did you guys leave? Maybe by the time LotRO finally launches, he will be ready to give another MMO a try. =)

RE: Coffee & LoTR

It's almost been two years. We stopped playing in January of 2005. We do have a new addition to our family also (born July this year).. I am hoping we can do some mmo'ing here and there, no big committments needed (nor can we do it since we have a little one nowO) and just play casually. Cannot take things too much to heart when busy in real life. LoTR is due out in December, isn't it? Unless, of course, they deem later release date is needed. Which would be fine as long as the game is near to perfect. haha

Congrats on the addition! Gonna need a lot of coffee with a new baby in the house.

I've been hearing that they are projecting a Spring '07 release, so maybe February or later.

Yeah, they pushed back the launch until "Spring 2007". So the wait will be a bit longer.

And the horror stories about running guilds is why I have never ran one. I know they are a HUGE job to run, and really I don't like to work that much when I play games.
