| Which class/race will you play at release? |
|
|
|
As topic.
Which class/race and maybe even crafting profession will you play when the game goes live? And why do you want to play that particular race/class?
Would be fun to know what all of you was thinking of playing.
I'm thinking of a dwarven guardian that uses his sparetime to make the best armors in the world or an elven/hobbit minstrel that likes to make jewelry and clothes.
I've always liked dwarves and I just think they fit as the meatshield/tank in a party, therefore a guardian is my choice. Will be interesting to see how their attackstyle will work out, the whole 'counterattack' deal.
My choice of the minstrel class is that I just love 'bards' and like to be able to help the whole party.
Now, lets hear what you others are looking forward to play! :)

I would play as an Elven Champion as my initial "Sykin" character. Or my signature character, heh. I like the prospect of being some sort of fiercely strong sword-wielder. As for his crafting class (Assuming every character can have a crafting speciality), I'd go for a Scholar-type or Historian. It fits his character; Sykin is supposed to be very wise and cunning.
I'd also like to create a hobbit Hunter and a human Captain. They're comfortable archetypes that I want to roleplay as.
I suppose I might make a Lore Master with one of the races. And a dwarf because I love dwarves.

I'm probably going to be playing an Elf for my first character. I'm going to sound very girly for a second and say that I have to have a purtty looking avatar. It is just very difficult for me to get into a game if I can't stand what my character looks like.
But I usually play around with the character creation for at least an hour before my first character is made. I like looking at all the choices for all the different races and what not to see if any strike my fancy.
I'm not 100% sure, yet, what class I'm going to pick. I usually wait until I begin making a character before I really decide on that one.
As for crafting... I don't really enjoy crafting all that much. I will probably be grabing some gathering skills though. You never know what you are going to run into out in the wild, and you might as well have some skills to be able to gather some of it up.
I won't be deciding on which gathering skill I take until I get a better idea of what is going to be the more popular crafting skill though.

It really all depends on what my hubby wants to play if he decides LoTR is a strong enough lure to bring us back to playing mmos. In the past I have played supportive classes - it's the best combination for he and I. I am more of a defensive player anyway while he's the muscles and brawn. haha I am partial to elves but will have to see!

Is it just me, or does women often play supportclasses?
I've known and played on a regular basis with 3-4 of the opposite sex the last couple years and all of them have played supportive classes.
Coincidence? I dont think so! :O
Kinda like in IRL you know, they support us with food and being nurses and all. It might just be in the human nature. :P
This is in no way meant to offend all you feminists out there, just so you know. :P
But enough of that!
All you other LOTRO fans out there, post away in this thread! Maybe we can figure out which the most popular class will be! ;)

lol I believe in women's rights and equality where appropriate but I am not a feminist. So I am not offended. :) But what you have said does appear to have direct correlation with real life roles. I know for me it is.

It might just depend on the women. I don't enjoy playing the support classes nearly as much as I enjoy playing the class the charges into the fight head first, screaming as they rip into the monster... er... um....
Yeah, I'm not so much the "support" kinda gal *grin*

Actually, that is exactly what a feminist is, one who supports equal rights for women. To advocate the superiority of women is not feminism at all. You don't need to burn your bra or hate men to be a feminist. ;-)
I was a tom-boy growing up, I played more sports than my 3 brothers combined. I prefer support classes as my dominant character, but I always make alts that do some damage. I've played mages and archers and the occassional tank. But those are usually characters that I play when I am feeling bored with my main or I've spent too much time playing her. I usually suck at hand to hand combat in games, I don't have the right reflexes. So I lean towards classes that are on the edge of the fray.

Of course, if you wanted to burn your bra, that would be quite alright. Just make sure you have some way to control the fire b/c that would be a horrid convo w/ the fire department.

Well the way feminisism is represented today - by what I would equate to right winged behavior - I do not fall under. Like some feminists want to remove the men from women and be called something else. PErsonally I don't give a damn - who cares? Haha I am not a true feminist really.. I do believe there are jobs that women cannot do due to physical limitations. I believe in a marriage, yes it's a partnership but the woman has a role to fulfill as well as the man. In some cases a woman should be subject to her husband. However, the husband should not be abusing his wife or taking her for granted.... etc, etc, etc. Feminists would burn me alive for just saying that. That's why I stated what I had previously. :)

Personally, I've seen both. It seems that there are quite a few women who are happy playing support roles, but I think there are just as many men, percentage wise. I've also seen women as the main damage dealer (ala thejeni and her somewhat disturbing bloodlust, which may or may not be solely confined to her gameplay ;P ). The GCoA has a couple women in it that are champion / guardian types.
However, getting back on subject... I will be playing a Human Hunter... just as my character biography has mapped out =)

My wife and I tend to just role up something that strikes us as fun and run with it, often times one of us provides the offense while the other plays the support class but I am as likely to play the healer as she is. Then again we have created teams where neither of us played a support class and had a lot of fun with them.
Anyway we have talked about it some and are both interested in playing a human hunter as our main characters. We will most likely have one become a weapons smith and the other a forester as we are both going into crafting withdrawal. Guess we will see if it works out.

a Human Loremaster (since everyone is going to play evles)
The BF will be a Human Burglar (like this should surpise anyone, hes hardcore rouge in warcraft)
My alt will be a hobbit....hobbit what I dunno yet, and will have a drucila type name.

Beta or not I think I'mma start with a elven champion. So far in every MMORPG I played I've always been a agility class such as dagger and archers (lineage 2 especially)...So I think it's about time I gave it a change of pace and went Elven Champion. But after a bit of play I'll try out a hunter to see how it is...I might end up going hunter or maybe even burglar...very spiffy stuff ^_^.

Ahhh I cant decide, I would really like an assasin style character that can hit with powerfull combo's and escape unscathed. So would that be a burglar?
No those burglars look like they dont deal much damage, and look like they need to work in a team :/
So now I look towards a champion, dual weilding: good, and lots of damage too! Hmm, maybe not, not too keen on cubersome swords, and I like stealthyness in a character :/
Oh Hunter that sounds nice, exactly like a ranger in guild wars, which is good...or is it? I dont know...I quite like playing upclose and combo'ing things, stuff that requires real skil....
....Still cant decide...
This is my old account.

I already have 3 characters slated to be created. First will be my support character, the Human Captain. After reading all the inside on it, it sounds the most like a Paladin/Shaman type of character. And I most thoroughly enjoyed the way a shaman/pally can be played both group- and solo-wise.
The second character will be the RP character. My first character in D&D was an elf hunter, and I always make one in every MMORPG based off her. She will be the main guilding/RP character and will sprout countless followers the likes of which have never been seen in an online Army. For centuries, Man and his co-races will sing of her tales and countless heroic deeds, which will never be equalled. Singlehandedly defeated Smaug?? Laughed a Balrog in the face? Found Waldo? You name it, she will do it!
The Third character will be the crafter. I think a burglar will be the best choice here. I don't know how gameplay works, but if there ever comes to pass a time when the creators.....get creative.... and produce a Black Market of sorts, I would want my character to have easy access to it. Oh, and "acquire" any valuable ingredients necessary for high end Crafting. In other games, certain items were attainable only by pickin the pockets of the biggest, baddest, meanest toons in the game. I wouldn't want to be left out, now would I?
I am currently working on some illustrations for the prospective characters I will have in the game. Might be done this week, since I have a lot of time on my hands!
Here's a concept of the first idea I had for my character
Note: Not an actual LOTRO character.
