| Why are certain Regen powers frowned upon? |
|
|

I have a level 50 DM/Regen stalker with all secondary powers for Regen. He pretty much is unstoppable it seems. Sure Resilience maybe only grants a 10% increase to damage resistance, but it can save your skin in an AV/EB fight, I can attest to that.
The other 2 powers that people are downgrading are Revive and Moment of Glory.
Now I will agree that Moment of Glory (MoG) pretty much doesn't seem worth it when you first get it when it has only one slot. But I have 4 slots on mine, 1 recharge, 2 damage resists, and a defense buff. It seems to work fairly well when you are about to die, you do evade alot of attacks and get that chance to run away. So I guess I don't see why people don't like MoG..Sure for PvP it's not that great, but for PvE it works well in my experience.
The other power that gets picked on in the Regen set, is Revive. Now I can see if you die a TON and it's never up why it could seem worthless. But if you are a good stalker and know your limits, when to run, and when you can stay and fight, you shouldn't die that often.
I think its a good power for the times you don't have that awake, or you are soloing and don't want the EB or boss to regain all his health. It's especially useful for me if my MoG doesn't work too well in escaping and the boss leaves me be so I can Revive peacefully.
Even in groups, others (especially brutes) can draw aggro away from you so you can Revive and continue to do your job.
Of course, yes these 3 powers don't do much to save you in PvP, but I'm speaking from a strict PvE stance.
Also keep in mind my Dark Melee primary, I did not take Siphon Life or Touch of Fear, so there was 2 power slots that could be filled with these.
But anyway, does what I said make any sense? Or are these powers only good in my scenario?

Oh it isn't an issue that Regen isn't a good secondary at all, I see many with it. I was just wondering why these 3 powers specifically get no respect...

Probably from heresay and other people that didn't know how to use them. That's all that I can see.
Everyone, I'm almost certain, has selected some powers that are not or everyday use, but when you need them are great to have.
I have both of those on my Scrapper and I wouldn't respec out of them for any reason.

well when your lvl 50 you dont normaly do missions anymore. your focus is shifted to PvP and as you have said, those powers really dont offer mush gain. but they should be taken earlier then respeced out of when your 50 or so. if your not gonna benefit from a power you just waste power slots.

Yeah, everyone I know respecs their toon for PvP once they hit lvl 50. For regeneration, all I've noticed I need for PvP is Reconstruction (3 slots with heals, and 3 with recharge), Integration (for resistances to stuns, holds, etc.), and Instant Healing (for when I have to charge a huge group of heroes. You don't NEED any of the other powers for PvP otherwise (ignoring hide).

I was pleasantly surprised today when I logged on my level 50 stalker. I was greeted with the words: "Respec available".
Now this is a funny story, because at level 41 when I got my first patron power, I realized I should have gotten the other one and wished for a respec. Lo and behold, I finished the mission after that in my patron's arc and got a respec. Talk about good timing.
Now, fast forward to level 50 where I am thinking I need to do a respec SF in order to respec for PvP, and I conveniently receive a free one. Nice.
Anyhow, most of you seem to be missing my point. Regardless of the fact that I am a level 50 now, I was merely saying I don't think these particular powers in Regen get proper credit. I haven't heard it on these boards but I hear alot in Broadcast while playing, something to the effect of:
Person 1: What should I get for the regen set next?
Person 2: Just don't ever take Moment of Glory or Revive and you'll be fine.
(everyone except for me agrees with Person 2)
Then I'm outnumbered.
Well it's nice to know that at least you guys agree with me on this.

My problem with MoG will always be that it locks your health regen out for 2 minutes. For 2 whole minutes you are no longer a "regen" stalker, you are a non-healing, sitting duck for any attacks (especially psionic) that get past the 80-95% defense and 40-60% damage resistance.
Before, when I first used MoG, if I hopped into the middle of a large group of mobs, I could only hope that I survived. Now without MoG, using 2-4 Lucks (depending on how many foes I take on at once) and all my heals/regens, I can know that I have almost no chance of dying, and its so much more fun for me.
Instead of MoG, I carry at least 16 Lucks on me at all times and hardly get touched, even by Psionics. If I do get scratched, I can still heal, instead of sitting there hoping I survive the full 2 minute health lockdown.
Don't get me wrong, MoG is extremely fun to use.. standing there watching "Avoided" or "Absorbed" pop up over your head 10 times a second. But having to fear Psionic attacks takes all the enjoyment out from an otherwise enjoyable Power.. and that is why I stopped using it.
As for Revive, I avoided it at first, but now I love using it. I don't need it as much... always carrying a tray full of Lucks, but if I do slip up, I can wait 20 seconds for hide and Integration to refresh and pop back up (nearly full health/stamina) and continue the fight. I even still carry a couple awakens just for teammates, so I can save the day in a big fight, if needed.

Regen stinks for PVP. I took my Stalker to Sirens Call and spent most of my time in the hospital. For missions he is great, but I want a Stalker that is good at both. I will be deleting him and going with claws/reflexes. Claws have become my favorite stalker attack, they recharge fast and do good damage.

that probably wouldnt be a good idea considering most believe that regen is hands down the best PvP secondary for a stalker.

It is the best for a Stalker or Scrapper in PvP. If you don't burst it to death, chances are without some very heavy debuffs, you won't kill a skilled Regen in PvP. Trust me, I have a Spine/Regen scrapper built for PvP who's unbeaten in 1v1 Arena matches, and has only been killed in zones by villain teams who managed to stack enough slows that I couldn't get away and my heals weren't recharging fast enough.
As far as the unwanted powers, I agree with most that they are subpar. Revive? Awaken, thank you. Or Hospital/Base. By level 35 I have a travel power. I can get back just fine without a power slot being burned. MoG? 3 minutes of not being able to heal. Any autohit damage will kill you. Major gap to Psi in a set that never cares about damage types any other time. I can get better results from 3 Lucks, 2-3 Sturdies, and Instant Healing/Dull Pain. And with that setup, I tank Psi better than most Tanks can. Much better than MoG, and I'm not stuck with it for 3 minutes. Resilience? I can pop an Orange and get better results without burning a powerslot.
Thats the main issue with those powers. There are inspirations available to everyone that do the job just as well or better. I'd rather have the power choice and slots available for other utility powers that I can't get from inspirations. Instead of Revive, I got Confront, for PvP. Also helps me tank for teams when we don't have a tanker. Can't taunt with a candy. Instead of MoG, I got Air superiority. Made a nice addition to my attack chain, filling it out, and gave me some much needed extra damage mitigation. Perma-knocking down bosses is really handy. Give's me the lil bit of time I need to kill them without them bursting me to death. I skipped Resilience and got Stamina in sooner. I might pick it up at 49, but that'd be just because I have no primary or secondary powers I need that I don't already have, I've chosen my 4 power pools and want nothing more from them, and the other ranged attack from my Epic is not of value to me without 6 slots, which I can't do for my 49 power. When there is no other viable choice, then I'll get it. Though I might get fly to help me get around the shard easier. Not sure yet.
