School Shootings

this morning around 10:30 am, there was another school shooting in an Amish school house in lancaster county, PA. from what i heard on the radio, the gunman killed 2 or 3 students and a teachers aide execution style before killing himself.

this has been the 3rd or 4th school shooting in the past week and i think 5th attempt in the past 30 days. some kid outside of green bay thwarted an attempt outside of detroit earlier in september.

what is going on right now? is this just a big coincidence or is there a website that all the crazy people belong to that no one else knows about?! there has to be some explaination of why this is all occuring around the same time period. i really hope this end soon because my sister just started teaching in september and these past few events have got me worried more than i used to.

and on a side, much lighter note, the world is definately going to end soon because brooke hogan, hulk's daughter, has the number one music video on VH1 today.

RE: School Shootings

Honestly there are a lot of shootings going on, have been for a while. We just don't hear about every single one now. I guess people feel the place to make a statement is in the schools now?

Doesn't pwning a gun go against what the Amish believe? Like cars and stuff that can be ran by electricity? Technology is bad for them... still using beavers to cut down trees for them and everything.

I didn't see mention that the gunman was Amish.

The TV news did mention it was thought to be a prior student.

And I live in an Amish area (not Pennsylvania tho) and there are many different sects with some allowing electric, cars, stereos, etc. They still by and large live a simple life without excess but are allowed more freedoms than the very strict Amish. Menonites are similar also and many have all modern things when work is involved but keep their home very simple without but a few modern things.

I cant wait to see what poloticians are going to try to pin these shootings on. Games? Movies? Music? I'm just gonna sit there and laugh when the accusations go up in flames. Just like when they tried to pin columbine on Marilyn Manson.

RE: School Shootings

the amish school shooter worked on a farm in the area, but was not of the amish way. i think he ran a miller or something of that nature. it was said he was exacting revenge for something done to him 20 years ago. that makes a lot of sense to harm people who werent even alive then to get your revenge.

Any of you seen the documentary called "Bowling for Columbine?" (Not sure what the name was exactly.). It gives some quite good points of views to all the school shootings.

I think it said he delivered milk....he singled out the girls ..let the boys go and then line the girls up against the blackboard to execute them. and yes it was for revenge from an incident 20 years ago. why is it always the innocents that pay the price?

that's what the movie was called and it was by michael moore. i didnt bring this up because there are a lot of conflicting opinions of him and his work and i didnt want to turn this into a tanget about anything political. that kind of thing tends to happen when talking about michael moore.

RE: School Shootings

I do have to say this shooting and the recent one in Colorado are different from Columbine in the sense that it was not some one who attends there or attended there. Unfortunately there will be another uproar saying that guns are evil and need to be banned. As far as the shootings that were done by someone that attended the school and are the same age of the students there why was the parents of the shooters ever blamed? I have seen blame placed on a lot of things, people and corporations but never the parents of the students who committed these crimes. Well, more important then all my rambling is my sincere condolendcenes to the families that were involved.

This sort of incident is exactly why I am against banning guns. One armed security guard could have prevented every death, yet most security guards I know are not allowed to bring guns to work. How is that making anyone safe?

RE: School Shootings

Im against banning guns, but there need to be somewhat stricter measure preventing anyone who means harm to humans (henceforth knoted as "crazies") from purchasing a semi automatic assault rifle capable of pumping out 900 rounds per minute... for duck huntin'. Yeehaw!

Sadly, im going to avoid "Bowling for Columbine" because of exactly what was mentioned before.

right, being a public school kid, i am slightly afraid by all this good jazz, so im trying to be as nice as possible to everyone and not exclude anyone. but i cant please everyone... methinx im in danger.

Thanks to Death Fetish for kicka$$ siggy!!!

RE: School Shootings

Granted, giving all due respect to those who suffer and lose loved ones to these kind of psychopaths, but it is basic to the fact that there was ALWAYS something very wrong with someone that believes their dissatisfaction with their childhood, family, treatment by their peers, should be expressed by violence of any kind upon others.
They often seem to believe they are justified by their own personal unhappiness to unleash unbelievably inexuseable acts. This is a very good reason to make it at least as hard to have children as to get a drivers license, because if this is what the children of the eighties are capable of, imagine the next batches capabilities. Makes me love my Dad's quiet peaceful manner more every day, GRHS.

RE: School Shootings

I agree wholeheartedly that we should look directly at the parents and/or guardians of the shooters. These are the same people I get stuck behind at the grocery that allow their kids to destroy things and never even bother to look at them, god forbid, stop them... These are the same people that I see in public places allowing their pre-pubecent daughter wear a pair of shorts that say "wild ride" across the butt... Sad thing is those are true experiences I've had...

I feel for the families that have lost people in this way, or any tragic way, I've lost family at the hands of another and it's always disturbing.

Take a lesson from this and kiss your kids and/or parents goodnight tonight, and every night from now on and tell them that you love them... If we all start doing that one little thing, maybe someday we can see an end to the craziness.

First of all, sorry for brining up that documentary, I didn't know it was that touchy subject. :/

And second of all, what do you guys mean by banning guns exactly?
Here in Finland you need to apply for a special permit that allows you to own a gun. I'm not totally sure but I think that only applies for hunting rifles and small handguns.
Like some time ago, my granddad died and my dad got a gun my granddad after he passed away. He had to apply for a permit to own a gun in order to keep it, otherwise he would've been takem away and I think he could've gotten something too. I'm not sure exactly :P

But anyways.

Personally, I see no reason for civilians to have any other guns besides rifles meant for hunting. I atleast don't feel any safer knowing that anyone could just go and buy a gun. :(

In America we have the "right to bare arms". Which means anyone (over 18 of course) can own a gun. If you wanted a hunting rifle, you could walk into any store, and walk out with the gun and the bullets. They do make you apply for a permit for a hand gun, and there is a 3 (? pretty sure it is 3) day wait, while they run a background check and what not. But it is one of the rights that our government has given us.

RE: School Shootings

ok well first of all it would be impossible for the government to ban guns. it states in the bill of rights which back a long time ago the anti-federalists required in order for the constitution to be signed. Basically wat that means is that there are 10 basic rights everyone is intitled to no matter what that can not be changed. The bill of rights consists of the first 10 ammendments to the constitution. ammendment number 2 is the right to bear arms. meaning the government can NEVER take these rights away. well im still in school (history class is the only reason i know all of this) but i am basically trying to decide between to professions. Why does this matter? they both have to do with this. one is a federal attorney and the other has to do with psychology. both i have been told that im good at. Well if you look at the parents in these cases they dont play large roles in the childs lives. next even though it hurts me im gonna quote Eminem
"when a kids gettin bullied and he shoots up his school, they blame it on marilyn (Manson).....But where were the parents at" -Eminem "They way i am".

basically what im saying is the kids are not mentally stable. For instance i saw on the news a kid killed his family because "Grand Theft Auto San Andreas taught him how to." But then you look back in time and they blamed Jimi Hendrix for kids doin drugs. Well its not Jimi's fault they are doin drugs, its partaily there parents.

i know some things ive said make ppl pretty mad but basically all im trieng to do is show you my perspective.[/I]
