Has anyone else had something like this happen?
This past weekend, while trying to do the Iron Mines mission, I was playing a monk that has been wearing simple 1.5K Ascalon armor (from Kaineng Center) for a while - long enough to finish Factions, cap 140+ skills, amass over 1.5 million XP, and explore >90% of Cantha and much of Tyria. No one had ever commented on my plain armor until that mission when one of the group started making fun of my 'pre-searing' armor. This started a me-too burst of similar "ha-ha" comments.
All I could do was sigh, point out that they were wrong and eventually bail. Personally, I don't really care how cool or expensive my armor is if it does the job.

But you take so much less damage with droks, or even LA armor.
I'm kinda the same way though, I really dont care what my armor looks like as long as it gets the job done, but here recently I've been buying armor for its looks, because I have the money and was getting tired of the same boring-looking armor.

All that matters is that it is max stats. If it isnt, its time to upgrade.

The obvious answer would be something along the lines of "If you do your job right, I don't need any armor at all!"
But seriously... don't bother with blokes the likes of those... as long as you do your part in the team, they ain't got nothing to b**** about.
Blokes like that should be glad to get some monks in the team... there usually aren't many around to join in a team.

1.5k from Kaineng is Max armour, who cares what it looks like as long as it does it's job!
There's always someone out there who thinks they know best and will ridicule others without knwoing all the facts.
Just be happy in the fact that it's more than likely their way of taking out their insecurites on others and they're probably a gibbering wreck of a human being!

.. my tought is allways have what I like, doensnt matter if it is 1.5k or 15k or even fow armor. For example i have a Kaineng Center armor on my Ele dyed Black, simply because its my taste (my own game copy, my own account, my time!!)
Live well w/ ur consciente, not w/ something someone can/will tell u, and if u even dont like to spend any money at all, theres allways okay, "we" only want u to make ur job (as we all know - playing w/ ur skills).

I just changed my 15k Druids to a mix of collector styles from Kein center, I think it looks way better.
I've had people take the piss out in my 1.5k glads which I use to farm and run so I change to my 15k Plate. If they keep on at you just make out they used eBay and they often shut up!

I have 1.5K armor on all 7 of my PvE characters. I also happen to have over 400K 50ectos and 20 shrads. I personally dont care what other people think. I use my money for important stuff like skills new 1.5K armor/runesweapons for farming builds. One day I will have enough to get my necro (main char 3 mil exp) FoW armor since between him and my monk I've got most of my cash. Shurk them off like Bobby said if its max it dont matter.

regarding anyone commenting on my armor, i believe i would have a serious flame fest for their lack of intelligence, their heritage, their mom's heritage, and anyone else i can think of. A verbal tongue lashing on idiots is something i can rather enjoy. Heck, my 15k glads for my warrior still consists of 1.5k leggings, and 1.5k plate helm from Droks. As mentioned, it suits my taste. *shrug*

ahhh, lol, ok, well basically, all armor off noob island in factions is max, same as you find in prophecies. Other than some possible inherent bonuses being different

My Monk has a set of Kaineng Ascalon, it's a very simple, but nice looking armor. I remember playing my Monk through Tyria and keeping my PreSearing set, just for towns etc - because IMO it was so much nicer than most other Tyrian Monk armors.

This reminds me of those people who say, people who have 15k Armor appear to be better players - all it shows me is that they know how to make money, anyone can copy a farm build and do it for hours until they can afford a set. Why does that make them better than a veteran who decides Armor is a build requirement, and not a fashion statement?

I have 7 sets of 15k through minimal farming, making my characters look good is something I enjoy doing. What you spend your money on depends what you think is worth while.
I agree with Anan btw, "n00b" island is harsh. "newb" or "Starter" are better terms.

That's why I love GW. 15k armor, FoW armor and 1.5k armor are all as good as the other ones. Everybody's got a fair chance, though I both enjoy farming and shining up my characters ^^

But seriously, the only way they should give you crap is if you are wearing non-max-stat LA armor for 55-ing when your in a group that you shouldn't be 55-ing in. Simple vanity and bragging rights is all the other armor is good for. If they don't realize your Asclon armor could be 1.5k armor from Cantha, they are ignorant and hopefully you can enlighten them. If they are giving you crap and know your armor is max stat, they are suffering from feelings of inferiority or just joking.
I have a female Me with all 1.5 k drokes with 1-color die on all pieces. Shirt is rogues, rest is enchantress. Mahns Grato people have complimented the armor, and even asked what it is. On the other hand, I love my pig breast plate 1.5k drokes armor for my male W, and no one else seems to :) Finally, I'm glad you can buy low level looking armor in Cantha because starter N armor is my favorite for females, and the LA armor (or the one after that) one of my favorite for male N's.

And anyone who does in my presence usually gets an earful, however, i have seen it called all over here and everywhere 'noob island', and i also call it noob island when i am there with a new character. regarding taking my statement out of context and as a derogatory term... and whether i loose credibility over it, quite frankly isnt too much of a concern of mine. If someone doesnt know me and chooses not to take the fact that it wasnt derogatory, more power to them.
p.s. i have also called it newb, new, newbie island, presear, yadda yadda

seriously guys, chill out, who gives a flying ..... if its newb island or noob island, as long as you dont use noob in a derogatory manner. I mean, if you guys wanna go be 100% correct, up tight people, your gona miss out on a lot of fun. I used to be like that, and now, i couldnt care less, as long as it doesnt offend anybody. Calling it a noob island is non-offensive, unless your so high strung that you automatically assume that he's calling everybody who has to start in the noob island as a noob. That means, WERE ALL GONA BE NOOBS AGAIN! OMG!!!!! lol, seriously, get over it :P
also, I saw bobby posted about someone being neg credit happy? ... give your finger a break, just caus you can dish out negative credit doesnt mean you have to use it left and right. I am not going to bother reading to see what posts deserved it or not, but Its honestly pretty sad. I guess some people feel insecure with their high credit and need to ensure that people dont over-take them. .... after all, its just a number, who cares if you have high credit or if you say noob island instead of newb island.

I say noob all the time, I was raised (early online experiences) on FPS - or 'First Person Shooters' for those who don't know - and it's even more common there than it is here, or in GW.
Quite often, the context in which it is used, and the motivations for using it, will define whether or not it is derogatory or not.
I really don't think it was intended that way.

I just bought my Fifth set of Fissure armor, and I think it is very likely that I get more negatiove comments when wearing it than anyone in 1.5k armor ever does.
Here is a renactment of the average converstation.,...
In whispers:
Person A: Hey what armor is that.
Me: Fissure.
Person A: ROFL, it looks like S+++.
Me: Gee, thanks.
Person A: I would never buy that garbage it looks so stupid. You are a noob.
Me: Go away.
In All Chat:
Person A: OMFG Assassin FOW armor is so gay.
Person B: ALL Fissure armor is E-bay armor.
Peson A: Ya I hate noobs.
Person C: Fissure sucks.
Person D: i could buy Fissure for all my characters but it just looks so stupid.
Person A: Look at Ender, he looks like a $%^& in his Fissure.
Person C: ROFL, Ender how much did you spend on E-bay for that.
etc etc etc etc, it stops a few minutes afetr I leave and set myself to DnD....
What is the point of this you ask?
It is not the armor you are wearing that causes all those stupid juvenile comments , it is stupid juveniles that have nothing better to do..............

Take it with a grain of salt, more and more lately I have been doing my very very best to go out of my way to make friends with the nice people I find in GW. It seems that pleasant people who understand it is a game and do not get caught up in the BS are becoming a commodity.......
Just be a source of good (damn that sounds campy) and good things will come =)
PS: I have NEVER bought gold or anything game related on e-bay and if I had my way anyone who ever has would be perma banned from the game.
