What are you opinions of swords (non game based here) because shortly enough (in a long time) i intend to purchase myself one (for display purposes only!)
What do you guys out there think, any other lovers of the blade?

As a practicing Swordsman, I recommend visiting this site www.thebladeshop.com. They have some very good, cheap, Katana blades.
Now, if you're going to just 'display' them, then you can go just about anywhere and get an even cheaper sword that you really can't do any cutting with.
Normally, for a good, quality blade, you'd be spending in the thousands of dollars.

Bishop, you're my hero. *dreamy eyes*
Hell: For what you want you can usually pick up a cheap display purpose, non-cutting sword (I suggest a katana, cause they just look uber sweet up on a mantle and they are awesome like Bishop) at you nearest 'nerd convention' (not my term, I just stole it from someone, whoever can find out who I stole it from and the context it was in gets three cookies), but you'll need someone 18 or older to buy it for you.

I myself am a newly practicing swordsman, but i mean newly! I realise tell you now im not buying any cheap fake blades! If i buy a blade it will be in person so i can ten-point check it (you know the ten-point build rule ya?) and have a wee practice, of course id practice with my swords, but display them to. Just dont want anyone to think im a CoV addict trying to be a real life NB/SR stalker...
Also though katanas are sweet (i want 3) they are too over publised what with all teh fight movies and anime out there, it some times over shows it and makes it seem a common weapon, as such it loses some of its beauty. I quite want a medievil broadsword, because ive always wanted to become a master swordsman and its my only dream in life that has yet to be crushed. Heck ive taken up fencing for a fair while now and ive jsut join a kendo club. Got any other good styles i can look into?

Um, about that broadwsord...I would start w/ something else, as a quality broadsword is a ver, VERY heavy sword. Very.
Clicky.

Are you a kendoka? are you taking kenjutstu? fencing?
It probably doesnt matter but you can get a good looking wallhanger for less than 100$, mostly the ones made of stainless steel. Ups and Downs of Wallhangers: They look good, and there resistant to rusting so you dont have to clean them, but they cant hold an edge or stay together worth crap.

I never said i was gonig to start with a broad swrod, i jsut want one, but dont confuse it with a bastard sword or a buster sword, those things are heavy alright, i know i tried to lift a bastard sword before (i appolgise for its name honestly im not swearing adn this is a semi educational topic). I also want a straight sword in my collection, but i guess i better actuly make money before such talk, especially if i want them personally made for me... *wallet screams*

I love my broad sword, It was made just for me by a real sword master in Scotland. I got it about two years ago while on vacation, and got to watch him make it from scrach. Took two about a week and cost me just under 5k. It mostly sets over my fireplace but I keep it sharp and clean, just incase. It was a small price to pay for something I've wanted all my life, and I hope to pass it down to my son someday so he can pass it on and start a family tradition. If you have the money I highly recamend getting something made personaly for you, it will mean alot more to ya in the long run.
Don't get me wrong I have all kinds of cheap swords that I got out books, off of website, and at the fleamarket. I love them all but only the one is speacel to me.

There are many different types of Swords floating (or swinging or slashing or cutting or hacking) around out there.
I prefer the Katana blade, because I am studing Kenjutsu. The site that I provided you have some decent cutting blades (many of our school has purchased and used them and our Sensai has given them the seal of approval). Now, as for as high quality, the price tags can soar through the roof.
Kendo...do they use real blades? lol, j/k.
Fencing...to proper (for me anyways)
If you are looking for a straight blade, have you looked into the Tai Chi Sword?
I've actually used a Broadsword and geez, talk about one heavy Blade that can cut through some stuff. I've developed a respect for Broadswords (only by using one and seeing first hand what it is capable of).
I just really like the sound a Katana blade makes when you are doing cuts properly and get a full, hard cut going...music to my ears.
Just be careful what you get and where you get and really know the purpose of why you're getting the blade. That makes a ton of different. The site that I supplied has good bottle cutting blades, but are not worth a crap when it comes to cutting paper (sounds easier that what it is...paper really tells you how good your technique and speed are).
I love this topic...Now if we can only get into where we actually have cut up bodies, now that would be totally Villainous. If you haven't noticed, I'm developing a real passion for blades (i'm a weapon freak, love to learn to use every weapon ever made, but I keep it limited to the shorter, in close ones, they do more damage).

I have a collection of replica swords & daggers at home, depending on your decor they make great wall hangings or mantle pieces. Just don't go crazy, too many can look tacky ecspecially if you start buying fantasy blades. Display your collection with some renaisance paintings or tapastries. I have an old brass rubbing from a knights tomb made from a cathedral in England & it looks great with some swords around it.

You know, I haven't thought about getting Swords for display (although some are displayed). I get them based on usage...usability...darn it, I get them to use! That's the only time, unless you walk in my house...uninvited, that anyone will ever see them (outside of my class).

Swords ever so interestin really, what make you of the schitmar (the curved sword). So many interesting blades that i want hand crafted for my collection. Hell need to make sure i get that licence though. The cost doesnt bother me so long as i have the money, hell if i win the lottery id spend a fair amount of that on blades.
Anyone heard of that religeon in which a top rule is you must carry a sword on your person at all times?

Perhaps you can get a bastard, you bastard.
Or maybe a Scottish claymore, like Braveheart?
Perhaps be different and get an eastern-European SZABLA
The coolest looking Medieval sword would be, IMO, a FLAMBERGE.

Just like the movie, they'll never see it coming...
However, unlike the movie, they won't get a chance to react... (not sure there are going to be any SS/Invul Tanks running around my area, lol).

Ah the sword holds many pleasures. This site has some good looking blades for display purposes. I have never tried to use any of the ones I have.

Yeah as others have said it depends on what type of blade you want, and what you intend to use it for.
If you want a real good blade that you can actually use I would recommend trying a local renaissance faire. While you will pay a little more, most of those sold are hand made and many will offer life time guarantees on their blades. Most will be of the medieval time period, but often they will make blades to order.
There is a Katana maker who does make their own blades and does fold the metal (but only a few times) who sells on E-bay. They also offer a guarantee, and offer some options on how the blade will look.
I have several blades in my house, many are just for show and while they are beautiful they would not hold the edge long if used, but I also have some that are very strong and hold their edge very well. Have different time periods from Roman to Katana, even have a true folded reverse blade like you see on Kenshin. (yes I know the blade was never found in history, but still looks nice and has more than a few surprises).
But my Favs are the ones that are from family history. One is a remake of a cutlass that one of my ancestors used as a privateer. One is the actual blade from an ancestor who was an office for the confederacy. One is a Scottish sword on a background of my Clan tartan. And one is a bastard sword on the coat of arms of one of the earliest ancestors that I can trace to.
