Okay, after much speculation (about a whole 10 minutes worth =P) I have finally figured out how the maps piece together (POSSIBLY!). And I Dub it (since i can't remember if A-Net even gave all of the actual continent a name or not)....TYCANTHELONIA!.... So yea....thats pretty much it....
/lookaround
/cough
Yea....just thought I'd share with my beloved ampers ^_^.
PS: If you have a better place to put Cantha....I'm listening....

Pretty cool...Nice work!
You know what is funny. With any on line game like this, about a month before an expansion comes out, people start coming up with crazy off the wall stuff. Is it that they are bored (I know I am), or they are anticipating the new release? Or a combination of both?
Anyway, I love this period before a new release. You get to see the odd stuff people can come up with. LOL
This is directed towards the people who ARE NOT admins. You are just a user/poster here like everyone else, including me. So before you get on your high horse and tell people how to play the game, or what they should and should not post (ie screenshots, game guides, thread topics, etc) keep this in mind...NO ONE ASKED YOU, AND YOUR PERMISSION OR APPROVAL IS NOT NEEDED!!! So if you don't lik a topic, or a picture, or whatever, then move on to the next one.
P.S. If you don't like my opinion, just remember one thing, I don't care. It is mine and I am happy with it. : )

As far as I know, Tyria is the continent's name. Named after the place where the gods lived.

I did something very similar a while ago, never actually finished it properly, so I just rushed the placement of Cantha...
I actually grabbed 100% size maps, then reduced each by an equal percentage of 10% (finished item was reduced further)... this way each of the continents is in scale, and the placement of Elona is pretty much correct, but Cantha is a guess...
The area to the East of Tyria (continent), was filled by me so Tyria (world) was more complete - but again I guessed the terrain.
I had real trouble with Cantha, does the Jade sea meet the un-jade sea? I wasn't sure, so the East of Cantha is blurry.

Dang, Genesis, that looks amazing. Really puts it in perspective. Tyria is huge compared to Elona and Cantha. I thought they had said Elona was going to be of comparable size, but it sure doesn't look like it.

Thanks, I spent quite a while on Tyria and Elona, but Cantha was just blobbed on last minute.
It is true, the land masses of Cantha and Elona are about a third that of Tyria, but when you start chopping off areas of Tyria that aren't actually mapped, you start to see less of that BIG difference.
Mapped out Cantha looks to be similar in size to Maguuma and maybe some of Kryta, and depending on how much of the Elonan mainland is explorable, it's probably about the size of Ascalon, both Shiverpeaks and the Desert.
Elona is definately bigger than Cantha, but still only about half that of Tyria.

Yeah, awesome job on it, it looks sweet......
Didnt Anet themselfes say that factions used the terrain a lot more efficiently than prophecies? Maybe the same is true for Nightfall. As you can clearly see, with Tyria, though it has the most land, there is a lot less of the land that is explorable.
I think it would be sweet if they did some huge update sometime down the road that opened up Tyria. I mean looking at a map, you can access maybe half of the total amount of land. Look at the large area's around the Crystal Desert and Maguuma Jungle that are not used.

lol....good point :P
Though after reading that and thinking about it, the way they are doing it makes pretty good sense.
Ok, 2 teams, 1 for odd campaigns(1, 3, 5, etc) and 1 for even (2, 4, 6, etc).
The odd team started with the continent of Tyria. Even team started with a new continent, Cantha. Now Nightfall, from the odd team, is an extension of Tyria, called Elona. Maybe the 4th chapter will be an extension of Cantha, called _____.
I'm sure you can understand where I'm going with this, maybe what there doing is building 2 completely different continents, with different "countries" on them(such as Tyria and Elona being different countries).

Even though you told me not to, you are wrong. Anet has said it themselfs that there are 2 seperate teams. 1 Per campaign, other than anet saying so, how else can I prove it? Well, according to anet, developement on Nightfall started back in November of 2005, before Factions was even released. They had 2 different teams, 1 still working on factions(which started as soon as prophecies came out), and another team working on nightfall at the same time. Do you think it would be possible to develope a game in 6 months even if it had "day & night" teams? I doubt it.
EDIT: Here's something I found on wiki to help further prove what I have said:
| QUOTE | | ANet plans to release two campaigns per year, and each campaign will have a development time of about 1 year. |
If they had 2 teams for each campaign then they would need a total of 4 teams, because there is a 6 month overlapping perioud where once game starts being developed while the other is halfway done.

| CODE |
Night Team
Even Campaigns {
Day Team
Night Team
Odd Campaigns {
Day Team |
??

Dont quite understand what your saying, but it looks like that too would take 4 teams, which would go against anet saying that have 2 teams.
According to what Anet themselves has said. They have had a team working on nightfall since about a year ago, and another team that was working on factions. Once the team on factions finished, they started working on the 4th chapter, leaving any remaining problems in factions to the rest of the staff(maybe they have a team dedicated to fixing bugs n such?)
Who knows, maybe they have 2 main teams(odd and even) and those teams are divided into 2 smaller teams(day and night). So they have 1 team working on each chapter, and that team is divided so its worked on 24/7. Basically, a team of 50 people, 25 work on the chapter during the day, 25 work on it at night.
Like I said though, the above paragraph is just a speculation on 1 way they could do it. But I do know, for a fact, that they have 2 teams, each working on a different chapter at the same time.

Hey, what about those battle islands? Where would they go?
I'm guessing in the middle of that great big expanse between all the continents.

I was always under the impression that they were the islands just south of Kryta
EDIT: | QUOTE (GuildWiki) | | he Battle Isles are a separate continent and located neither in Tyria nor Cantha, so they can't be found on the map. |
hmmmm so I was under the wrong impression lol

I had a diffrent idea for the placement of Cantha. Here are the images I came up with.
The most interesting part of this placement is that it creates another Sea between the Crystal Desert, and Cantha. I know its way to early to speculate, but it looks like there is plenty of room for future expanses.
I think that the placement is completely logical for a couple reasons:
1.) The Jade Sea provides a barrier from the West of of the Maguma Jungle.
2.) The climate of Cantha is similar to the climate of The Wilds.
Cantha's placement might even be further north. Who is to say that we have already seen "absolute" North. Considering Elonia expands to the South it is possible that Cantha is higher North relative to Tyria.
What do you all think?
EDIT: Holy cow! Those images didn't resize. I'm sorry for that guys. -.-

why is cantha sideways? isn't it already orientated north on the ingame map? so that would make things a tad wrong on this map unless i am mistaken.
As for questions of the battle islands, It is obviously between tyria and cantha, probably more towards cantha than tyria.
Edit: the battle islands being between, yet seperate, would also imply a reasonably large sea separates cantha from the rest of the world
