What exactly does Tactics do in PvP?

Hey there, I heard from someone that tactics only allows you to see the stalkers hiding, but doesn't actually allow you to target one. Is that true? If so, it's not all that cool IMO.

If you can see them, you can target them.

It does increase your perception and thus it might also allow you to see a Stalker, but not always.
It just depends on whether or not that perception is enough to "outlevel" the Stalker's stealthing.

Also it's really by far the best for Defenders, Controllers are also okay but all other ATs will get a relatively very low perception bonus out of it if compared to those two.

A lot. It does a hell of a lot.

+acc (always nice against enemies with a lot of defence)
+perception (always nice against stalkers/enemies with a stealth power)

It helps your team, you, and it hinders your enemies.

What more do you want? :)

This brings up a question I've had. Why does the Leadership pool work better with Defenders?

There's only one way to answer that: because Cryptic wanted it.
It's just hardcoded into the game.

The only reason is their reasoning, I guess they figured Defenders should be able to get the most out of it since they're powers that affect all alies in a PBAoE radius and the Defender is, after all, the main team support AT in CoH.

It won't always let you target those pesky stalkers. I had one sneak in around the gate in bloody bay. The perception boost from the police drones worked to let me see him, but not to target him. Of course, out in the field when they are trying to sneak up on you, being able to just see him is enough to let you know to fire off your aoes, if your a tank or such that has them, and knock him out of hide, thus eliminating his assasins strike. So yeah, even just seeing him is a good thing.

thats not quite true. perception does not work the same as the acc bonus.

perception is based on 'levels.'
everyone starts at say level 1.
a +perception power will bump you to level 2. (tactics)
2 +perception powers will bump you to level 3. (tactics and targeting drone/glacial armor/focused acc)
3 +perception powers bump you to 4 (tactics and glacial armor and foc acc)

same goes with cloaking powers.
you start at 1
+1 power(hide) bumps you to two
hide + invis puts you at 3
hide + stealth + cloaking device = 4

its something like this.

there are no percentages of perception increase, its just another layer you can uncover.

i've run glacial armor and tactics and could see every stalker running around. i'd say focused acc would do the same.

There's a misunderstanding I forgot to mention in my previous post on this.
There's a difference between seeing a Stalker and seeing him.

In the outter few feet of your perception range there's a transition if I recall correctly.
If someone's within that and you can see him 100% you can always target them, but once they're just about on the very border of your perception range they'll start fading and even though you can still slightly see them there you won't be able to target them anymore.

to expand on this:

normally when you are placated, you lose sight of the stalker easily. if you can see one coming and get placated, you can still see it, but not target it for a lil while.

Perception does NOT work in levels. It works in distances. Each AT gets a different boost from Tactics to how far away they can see a foe, regardless of PvE or PvP. Stealth powers work as a -perception debuff, meaning that you can't see stealthed characters from the same distance as non stealthed characters. Stalker's Hide power has -perception equal to the base perception of a player. Invisibility, Grant Invisibility, Group Invisibility, and Superior Invisibility all have this same -perception value. For all non stalkers, this is basically their stealth cap. Stalkers, however, have a higher -perception cap than all other ATs. This is why Hide stacks with other -perception powers (like stealth, invis, grant invis, and phase shift, for example.) Each PC also has a perception cap. That is, there is a maximum distance at which a player can see a foe. The way the game is set up is so that a player at the perception cap will see a stalker thats at the stealth cap at a distance of 10 ft. Beyond that, they are hidden.

Basically.

But there will always be some discrepancies (sp?). It is my personal belief that every defender/corruptor/controller/mastermind should have assault/tactics. The benefit to a team is just astonishing. I played on an all MM team last nite. 5 of us had assault (we were all lvl 10ish). The increase in our damage output was amazing.

Well cool. My kinetics defender is now 24, and I just picked up assault and will get tactics at 26. I run constantly with my wife who plays a stone tank, so I thought I'd get assault to HELP reduce some of the damage debuff she'll get with granite, and tactics to help reduce the accuracy debuff too. Heh, it's amazing how well kinetics goes with a stone tank. Speed boost is the bomb.

Well, it's also nice to know that assault gives resistance to taunt and placate, and that tactics helps out a lot on seeing baddies.

With this being said How well does it work for a blaster in Arena is it worth geting.

My problem is being able to hit Dark/darks with all there negitive -acc debuffs and sheilds

is this worth geting
