I'm considering buying Nightfall...only considering at this point, and I want to know if its worth it.
Tyria was incredible, Prophecies overall was a GREAT game. You could EXPLORE without having to follow a set path all the time. Bonuses had set objectives, not just a time limit, and the scenery was amazing pretty much the entire game.
Factions, on the other hand, was a huge disappointment for me. The city gave me a stomachache as a played through it, and half the game or so is spent in it. The lack of skill quests and the overdrive levelling was irritating, and you couldnt explore very well. If you happened to pick up a group of henchies and make your way across the map, you were stopped eventually by a gate. Usually, this happened pretty fast. The mission time thing was highly irritating, I didnt like most of the armor skins, and the storyline was not to my taste. To top it all off, I didnt like either the Assassin or Ritualist profession at all.
I decided with the release of Nightfall that I would wait and see what the general consensus was as to the quality of the game. When I played the preview event, I was impressed by the Paragon while I played one, and the Dervish looks much more promising than the Assassin did. The scenery on the island was decent, and I didnt run into any gates.
Of course, that was just three or four hours in the preview event. What do the rest of you think? I dont want "OMGZ0RS ITS AWSUM!!1" responses...completely starstruck people that love absolutely everything about Guild Wars dont really help me.
Basically, what DONT you guys like about Nightfall? What is below expectations, what gives you a headache? That information would be quite appreciated.

Kryper,
Nightfall is a fun game once u get in to it. Tho on 1 hand i have many dissapointments, reading that u did not like factions, many creatures can be the same, altho they are more intreging to kill.
Another dissapointment was the ending with Shrio and The Lich u have to fite again, wich was bad for me.
Good things i loved about it was that it offers many ways to have hlp, u can make ur own builds with ur heros
Ex:Denhoro-55,sb,sbvr2, healing etc.
Koss-Thousand swordsd at lvl 2
Etc.etc.etc.
Altho,I find the game at a good standing point.
Id rate GW NF a good 9.5 out of 10
If u arent getting guildwars get

hmmm The only thing I can think of thats wrong with Nightfall so far is that whenever I would die and tell the Hero (Koss) to rez me he would just stand there and not do anything. I'm sure it'll be fixed eventually.
But overall Nightfall is a great game. If you liked Prophecies (which it seems like you did) then buy this.
FYI: Prophecies Team made Nightfall which is why its much better than Factions.

well, iv almost beat it so i think i know the bad points =)
1. you have to follow the story to get to vabbi (the best place in all the games to date).
2. the endgame is VERY hard so it might be a while till the general population can beat it cause of the need of good players and all of them rushed/are going slow lol.
3. you need certin titles are point in the game which can get annoying at times.
4. some of the missons can get confusing.
now for the good pionts =)
1. vabbi rocks.
2. its not as closed as factions was but still not runable which is good.
3. the hero system works very good until the realm of torment i find.
4. theres no npcs you have to keep alive *burns togo alive*.

The biggest issues that I'm having right now is a lack of skills; there is neither skill quests as there was in Prophecies nor do quests give skill points as they do in Factions. This makes acquiring skills significantly harder than it was in the previous two chapters.
Heroes are excellent overall, but they are more than a little difficult to equip. Getting weapons for each hero for each build for each character gets pricey or time-consuming, not to mention runes for each hero for each character when the rune trader is sold out of all the runes for each common build type (minor monk runes except for Smiting have been sold out consistently for several days, for example). The runes being sold out is also a problem for equipping your character, too.
I also find myself disliking the Insignia system; the idea is good, but there simply aren't enough Insignias to go around, especially with Heroes. You can't get more than basic armor for your characters because Insignias are sold out faster than you can blink. In one case, I sold an Insignia to the Trader then immediately went to get a quote on it; it was gone, seconds after it appeared.
There are gates of a sort in Nightfall, but nowhere near as extreme as in Factions. Most of the time, it's just a matter of getting enough Sunspear promotion points to be able to get the next mission, which Nightfall natives shouldn't have a problem with, though Tyrians and Canthans might have issues. There's also almost always 2 or 3 new towns opened up with each mission, not counting the mission outpost itself, which makes the game not nearly as closed-in as Factions was but not nearly as open-ended as Prophecies could be.
Hmm... That's all of the negatives that I can think of. I do like Nightfall (which wasn't true of Factions), and I'm sure other people will say positive things about it in great amounts, so I don't feel a need to. I will say that if you're a PvE player, you'll enjoy Nightfall.

I'll have to agree with this, but with the new mini-map showing certain markers/objective points in the area some of the confusion can be helped.

I only dislike one thing. The AI of the heroes. The ele hero for example forgets to put on Attunement constantly. My hammer warrior does not use one energy skill, why I don't know. My other ele hero keeps using non-targeted spells such as Inferno in the middle of nowhere, hitting nothing.
And in general, heroes use skills in a totally random order.
So they should make us able to tell the heroes the correct order in which to use the skills...number them.

@Hammerite
Interesting...my ele is an echo nuker, and not only is he better than most real players I've played with, but everytime I check on him he has on Aura of Rest. and Fire Attunement. Koss uses my current warriors build and doesn't die unless we get overwhelmed.
Very strange that yours are like that

Maybe I put Att on wrong slot? :S
It was I who had to make him cast those spells through the command window.
It is weird indeed since my friend had no problem with Attunements either.
Koss is good, he does his job well.

my Hero's are stupid, except for Jin. Dunkoro is constantly using Energy Tap when he has 25 energy, and Koss almost never uses Vigorous Spirit. I end up having to take control otherwise he dies. I just use Dunkoro as a corpse for Koss, so he can make a Flesh Golem.

+cred to all who gave a response to me. What I saw were:
1) Hero AI (oh well...henchie AI is an ancient complaint)
2) Mission/PvE is complicated and confusing (this I like)
What scares me is the mention of the lack of skill stuff. I'd rather do a quest for my skill than pay for it...oh well. We'll see what the rest of the community thinks for a few days, then make a decision.

I think that the reason that I like skill quests vs. skill purchases, is sometimes you end up with skills you wouldnt think to use. If I have it, im more apt to be inventive with the skills...but Im not going to shell out a K for a skill that I dont know how useful it would be.
So the drawback is that I only carry skills that I know or think will be effective.

It's OK, the world is massive, and lots of quests and monsters. I also like the story line, with Abadon being the new evil. But, I'm a PvPer, so what I mostly like is the awesome new skills that you get access to. Man, the Paragon skill 'Song of Concentration' is like l33t sausage for capping an altar and holding

Well what I don't like about Nightfall is that if you go to Elona with your lvl 20 Tyrian or Faction character, you will have to train your hero again. For example, Koss will start with lvl 2 and you will have to train him up to lvl 20. This is for every non born Elona and it will take so much time grinding to level up. It is good for native elona character because that character will level up at the same rate as your hero so no problem at all.
If you don't mind grinding for 2500 sun spear point for General Rank, grinding for Lightbringer (which give you unique PVE only skills for defeating bosses, Those effect got stronger with higher Lightbringer lvl) and grinding to lvl up your hero againa and again for your non born elona character, then you should buy it.
I notice something that Anet tries to nerf farming and running with recent updates but in Nightfall they want you to grind in order to slow you down from finishing the campaign. They are trying say is this: Farming alone is not OK, but grinding with hench or Hero is OK.
So the motto should be change to "Never Fight Alone" to "Never Farm Alone". j/k :P

Nightfall , is great , not as good as proph , but far far better than factions . Its a great game , it makes you work alot more than past titles but the areas are intresting and theres a range of stuff to do . Loads of twists and turns along the way - Also , people complain about nightfall ect , theres only 1 thing wrong , a few careless bugs which will be fixed soon enough , not to worry about , Ive got about 2 missions left and i havent had any trouble . Any guildwars player wanting to do more and have more , NIGHTFALL IS FOR YOU.

after reading through this topic I have wanted to get GW:Nf. So I bugged my mom, got her to drive me 2 best buy, and I picked up a CE of Gw Nightfall right off the shelf, w00t. (not many gamers in my area, yay!)

Training your character hard? I took them out into Icetooth cave, and had them up several levels in about 15 minutes.
Then I followed up on the quests and thingies, and before I knew it they were level 20... So...
AI: well.. I still prefer henchies that attack what I attack over players that don't have a clue. And boy, I like nightfall. Good story, nice scenery, not too hard mission, (hardly) any NPC
s you have to keep alive, and you can pretty much go around like you want to... Yes. I like it.
Regards,
Michiel

I'm still early on in the game, I've been distracted by collecting those halloween items, but I'm never in a rush to finish any of the chapters.
The quests can get confusing, some quests contain subquests and triggering those can feel a bit haphazard, finding them was a bit problematic at one point.
The storyline is a massive improvement of the way too simplistic Factions plot, there are little bits of humour intertwined which realy helps bring the story alive.
It isn't as open as Prophecies but nowhere near as closed as Factions, there is definately alot more freedom of movement in Nightfall. The only time it felt there was a significant block was when you are informed you have to gain so many Sunspear promotion Points to continue, now for a Tyrian born character arriving on mainland Elona with only 30 points to discover I needed 2,500 was a bit scary...but follow the sub quests, speak to all the priests at res shrines and you gain those points easily without it feeling a grind.
Most missions carry a bonus in Prophecies style, inline with Factions they do have a 3 tier finish - Standard, Expert and Masters. Very few are timed, of the 5 I've completed only one had a timer. It does make the missions replayable, didnt get masters first time around? next time a guildy needs help with that mission you can aim for masters too. Some of the missions actually exercise the brain a little too while others are pure hack and slash, so far the balance for me is just right.
Heroes....now I've never been a big fan of hench so I haven't taken these glorified hench too seriously yet. They are definately a major improvement and a welcome addition but I do feel that they do distract from the idea of co-operative play, your lucky to get in a group without them and most mission require the presence of one of them, it's then a simple matter of finding who has that hero at the highest level and is best equipped, as long as your group is a reasonable one it's not proving to be a problem.
Armor - you can't please all the people all of the time :=) the sets are much more limited for non-Elonian professions. I liked the first set of Necro Sunspear but was bitterly dissapointed with the 15k Sunspear Elite Necro Armor, probably the worst armor I have ever seen, doesn't even have kitsch value.....bought it but it will never see the light except for a pic for this sites armor section. Monk on the other hand is nice and I'm more than happy to dress Ms Anthropy in it. It's purely subjective.
Scenery is absolutely stunning, the improvements to the graphics engine are subtle yet significant enough to create a suitably stunning environment, GW has always been eye candy but this takes it to a new level for me. Loving it! It really is worth taking time out from questing and missions to explore a little..
Edit: Just thought of something that has been bugging me in Nightfall (I am loving it so its not easy to find any real cause for complaint) the city structures, finding the NPC's you want in any given outpost can be a pain, they are more spread out in outposts that also have a much less linear design to them, at one point while I was getting materials together I just gave in and warped back to Kaineng.

Nightfall so far seems to be a mix of both, with totally new things that both lacked, thrown in. I don't like every aspect of it, but it is much harder than prophecies, and a little slower than factions. You don't level anywhere near as fast as factions, but faster than prophecies. The continent seems bigger, like there is more to explore, and for me, the scenery is far more lovely than either previous game. The hero control is neat, but seems to be a little buggy, but like I said I only started this morning, and just made it to the mainland.
I made a Dervish first, so far it has been very hard for me to get groups, but in any outpost almost all I see are Dervish characters, a few Paragons, and a handful of original classes.I think the Dervish is quite a bit of fun so far.The rank system I enjoy, the enemies are fun to kill, and fairly original.
All in all it was well worth the money, and it takes the best elements of the previous two, and mixes them with some new stuff :-) The hero idea rocks, the rank system is fun, enemies are neat, and the main one(where I am anyways) I find interesting, more so than the boring lich lord, or the very boring shiro....
Downsides to me is it seems a bit glitchy, VERY laggy, a lot of the armor I dont like much, but some look very good, better than proph, and almost as good as factions ( to me )Ranger, Necro, Dervish, and Ele armor's, look top notch to me.The rest...Meh...But I'm more than satisfied with it overall.Much better than either previous GW.
