I wrote this several months ago pulling the info from several postings Colewin and myself have made on various game forums. It's just a bit of background on our guild that you all might find of interest.
Guild Spotlight - Skara Brae Guild
By 1987 computer games were becoming a great way to play and enjoy fantasy gaming. And before the Internet was widely available, players could find each other, share ideas, and play early multi-player games via dial-up BBS. The computer game The Bard's Tale for the Commodore 64, and later for the Amiga, were the primary source for our guild's name and many early features used by our guild and The Bard's Tavern BBS.
The first use of Skara Brae as a guild for us was in the BBS version of The Bard's Tale where players could choose a team name. But Skara Brae as a gaming guild was really born in Ultima Online, starting on a renegade shard called Novindus with a second brief attempt on the Lake Austin server. UO really did not hold our attention very long and we moved on to other games.
With the coming of Shadowbane, Skara Brae was truly brought to life on the Vengeance server with the merging of remnants of several guilds. The three founders of the guild in Shadowbane were Brelvin, Apacheii, and Gilthanas. At it's peak Skara Brae as a Nation had 16 guilds, 9 cities, and 700+ toons under it's banner before the forced migration to the Mourning server.
Brelvin (now Colewin) Graystar is the Founder of Skara Brae and Co-Leader of our Everquest 2 and Vanguard chapters; Tyrlien Darkwynd being the other Co-Leader. Our guild website at www.bardstavern.net is our hub of activity for the guild with links to our specific game-oriented sites listed on our home page.
Today Skara Brae has gone beyond any one game and represents a long-term commitment to good friends and good times regardless of which games we play. We have official chapters in Everquest 2, Vanguard, and Guild Wars, with members playing several other games as well.
Skara Brae is a casual guild with no playtime requirements and solo play is welcome. Our guild has been built on a cooperative playstyle in Massively Multiplayer Online Games. The guild is centered upon the strengths of like-minded individuals supporting each other in a friendly player-oriented setting with an emphasis on cooperation, patience, and respect. Skara Brae's Everquest 2 chapter is presently based on the Butcherblock server.

Thanks for the bump, because we never mass recruit and people come into the guild knowing what to expect I am very pleased to say we have never had to boot anyone from the guild and we have been able to enjoy the company of some fine folk over the years. At times I am sure everyone feels the temptation to send out an open recruiting message but we resist that and try to keep our recruting carefull and focused.

I just want to say, Skara is an awesome guild.
Before I moved to a PVP server, this is where my husband and I played. They really are one of the best guilds I've been in...from any game.

It was a real pleasure having you two in the guild and though we miss you we understand your playstyle and time needs. I still pop in and lurk on the fringes of your UO site and wonder how you all are doing. With GameAmp it will be great to keep up with you and how your toons are doing.
