I'm a n00b

well put it this way, im a n00b. i just got the game today and i rlly wonder how things work. GW is so much different from CoV.

1) Should i go for Axes or Swords? i ruled out hammers because i want to use a shield

2) Where do i buy stuff? i need new armor and weapons. Please be specific. more specifically where in the first town can i buy equipment.

3) how do u get bags?

4) I am a W/Mo are smiting prayers worth it? i find it rlly annoying to have to run up to something everytime i want to attack. are they usefull for pulling or should i skip them for healing/protection?

5) Where do i get new skills? i just got to lvl 2 and the trainor just gave me 2 free skills. where can i pick my own skills? i have one skill point, how do i spend it?

Thank you in advance

RE: I'm a n00b

Welcome to gameamp!
Good descision on ruling out hammers i would save those for pvp, i would choose sword for starting out personally but its all up to you. I don't find smiting prayers worth it with the exception maybe of judges insight, otherwise i would sitck with healing. For where to get skills it would all depend on what chapter you are playing
Prophecies: skill vendors and quests
Factions or Nightfall: all vendors

Don't call yourself a "n00b", it is so mean. Your a newbie. ^^

QUOTE

It really depends on your build. I use both Axes and Swords, and I use both Tactics and Strenght shields.

QUOTE
2) Where do i buy stuff? i need new armor and weapons.  Please be specific.  more specifically where in the first town can i buy equipment.

Depending on which campaign you buy. If you get Prophecies you can start getting new armor once you go Post, and enter Ascalon. Then you get pretty much get new armor at almost every town and post.

If your getting Factions, you can get Armor at just about every town and outpost starting at Shing Jea Monestary.

If you are starting with Nightfall, you can start getting armor, starting with Kamadan, and you can find armor venders at every town and outpost, I do believe.

QUOTE
3) how do u get bags?

Buy the Bags, and just double click on them, and they will be added to your inventory and as your inventory. You can only equip two bags at a time. And with the Runes of Holding applied to the bags, they can hold up to 10 items verses 5. :)

QUOTE
4) I am a W/Mo are smiting prayers worth it? i find it rlly annoying to have to run up to something everytime i want to attack.  are they usefull for pulling or should i skip them for healing/protection?

I've never really used smiting skills with my Warrior. If I do use monk skills, I might use some healing skills.

QUOTE

You can buy new skills at Skill vendors. And what I said about the armor question applies here. :)

I hope this helps. ^^

RE: I'm a n00b

1. Try Both
2. People in the there name that have [Armor] to get armors and kill things for weapons or go to [Weapons] Poeple. or buy from other players
3. Merchants [Merchants]
4. I recommend healing skills. And for pulling a long or flatbow
5. When u buy a skill it spends it automaticly from poeple that say [Skills]

Also Which game do u have? Factions, Prophacies, Nightfall

Pre-Sear Ascalon is Ascalon before the Sear (Charr Attack). It is the starting area in Prophecies. Post-Sear is after the Searing (Charr Attack). Pre-Sear is more or less, the tutorial area of Prophecies. :)

RE: I'm a n00b

Just wanted to point something out:

DON'T rule out hammers. You can easily switch between weapon types whenever you want.

Hammers are typically PvP directed, since Knockdown is worth more for a smart player than a dumb enemy. But, you don't have to KD.

Hammers have a great potential for high damage. I've been able to get 120+ damage on enemies (Spellcasters) every hit.

Just try all three types and decide.

RE: I'm a n00b

At the point in the game you are currently at, you don't really have many options or choices. You are given only certain skills, and not very many of those. I would recommend just going around doing all the quests and exploring as much as possible. Enjoy the scenery because it is going to change. You will pick up a lot about the game in that region, most of the basic stuff. Also, I recommend you get used to running up to stuff to kill it, or try another class, because warriors don't make very good ranged attackers or spellcasters. :)

If you are in Pre-Searing and you want new armor and stuff you will have to go to the collectors [Collector] and find out what they want in exchange for armor and other various items.

1) Should i go for Axes or Swords? i ruled out hammers because i want to use a shield

I prefer swords myself. Axes are highly Adrenal-based, with almost all of their attack skills using adrenaline as opposed to energy, while swords have a more even mix of energy and adrenal skills. This means that swords deal higher damage right off the start of a battle without having to build adrenaline. Swords also have more defensive options available in the form of the Tactics-line Riposte and Deadly Riposte skills.

If you're not using many attack skills and going pure tank, swords are definately better; they deal higher average damage per strike. Axes are better for semitanking damage dealers and deal higher damage over the long run than swords do, while hammers are unmatched for damage but obviously lower your defenses. For the Prophecies campaign, hammers are pretty much inherently weaker due to the huge numbers of enemies with knockdown immunity; in the other campaigns hammers are much stronger.

QUOTE
2) Where do i buy stuff? i need new armor and weapons.  Please be specific.  more specifically where in the first town can i buy equipment.

In the Prophecies campaign, you can get new armor in the presearing starter area from collectors, but it isn't much of a change. After the Searing (which you'll get to if you just continue doing primary quests), there's an armor crafter in many towns including Ascalon City, with maximum-level armor being available at Droknar's Forge and forward.

There are weapons crafters in presearing Ascalon City; look around for a person named "Crafter" and he'll craft weapons for some gold and materials. These aren't too much stronger than what the higher-level enemies drop, though, and are weaker than what Charr drop north of the Wall. After the Searing, there's still weapon crafters about (who will have [Weapons] after their name) who will craft weapons, and there's also collectors who tend to give the best weapons for the region. Collectors start carrying max-damage weapons from the Crystal Desert onward, while the crafter in Droknar's Forge will make max-damage weapons.

QUOTE
3) how do u get bags?

After the Searing, most merchants sell them for 100g apiece. Before the Searing, you can't get bags but can get a belt pouch from several collectors including one directly outside the gates of Ascalon City for 5 Skale Fins.

QUOTE
4) I am a W/Mo are smiting prayers worth it? i find it rlly annoying to have to run up to something everytime i want to attack.  are they usefull for pulling or should i skip them for healing/protection?

It's very rare that a warrior will have the energy to effectively run healing or protection skills; I'd say skip them myself. Unfortunately, you also don't have energy to run most smiting spells, either... I'd recommend skipping your Monk sideclass altogether except for a few choice skills, those being Purge Conditions and/or Rebirth.

Hammer warriors can also make good use out of such skills as Holy Strike and Stonesoul Strike (a Factions skill) which deal added damage to knocked-down foes; however, in general you'll not be able to use them well.

After the Searing, running up to something to attack won't be so much of an issue because monsters will start running at you when you get close to them. However, if you really don't like getting into melee range, I'd have to tell you to not be a Warrior and use a ranged class like Elementalist or Ranger.

QUOTE
5) Where do i get new skills? i just got to lvl 2 and the trainor just gave me 2 free skills.  where can i pick my own skills? i have one skill point, how do i spend it?

Most quests in Prophecies give new skills... That's the easiest way to get them. After the Searing, there's [Skills] people in most towns that you can give gold and a skill point to learn a specific skill of your choice (within some limits; not all trainers initially have all skills). This is also how you use skill points.

RE: I'm a n00b

The other replies have pretty much answered the questions, but I wanted to make sure something was clear as it took me a bit to figure out when I started. When getting new armor you don't just take your gold and buy it. You have to have the crafting items needed for whatever particular armor you want to create.

Decide which armor you want and them collect the needed supplies you need to have it crafted.

Welcome To GameAmp ^^

If you are still in Pre-Searing and you need help with anything, I'll help you out. I have a ranger that likes pre-searing so much, she doesn't wanna leave that place, lol. I think I have a bunch of collector items for upgrading your armor there in pre-sear. I'll be online/playing in about 3 hours. ^^

RE: I'm a n00b

Well, you can certainly do that, just have a longbow in one of your other weapon slots. You can turn on more than one weapon slot by using 'i' to bring up the inventory then clicking on the 'weapon sets' button, and checking more than one. Then you can just shoot whatever you want to attack and it will come to you. However, this will really only work on other melee enemies, because casters will only come within casting range, and you will still have to run up to attack.

RE: I'm a n00b

ya well now that ive progressed further that is obsolete. i actually solved most of my own questions by playing. I just use Bane Signet because at lvl 5 the 28 damage that it does is pure awesome. i'm using an axe 6-16, where the sword i had before is 2-3.

i only have one questions. How do u get iron ingots others than buying them from the players who just wanna rip off the poor noob?

2 ways.... Either : Buy them off a material trader for a competitive price (or not so) or salvage them from armours, and
or swords, hammer, axes, daggers, shields.

Well, if you click in your inventory on the button 'weapon slots' you can add more (up to four) U can switch between them by usin F1-F4. If u put a longbow (doesn't have to be good, just a longbow) in on of these slots, you can use it to shoot at the monster, then they'll come to you, and then just switch (by pressin F1, or in whichever slot you placed your sword, axe or hammer) to your melee weapon and start bashing/hacking/slashing.

Cheer =D

MAx armor is also available for the Crystall Desert collectors for prophacies characters. It does not have the bonuses of crafted armor but it fdoes help. Also using collectors armors can save you money and crafting materials till you get to Drocks and the ascended armor crafters.

WooT! A non rushing Wammo in the making!

Pre is a good place to try out all the profs, you've got 4 slots so make and delete chars to see if you like them. Remember tho that most of the good skills come much later in the game which once you leave pre you'll see is pretty damn big!

You can also change your 2nd prof later and pick up weapons and armours mod'ed to suite your play style, ie. +nrg or double adrenalin etc etc.

Oh and Welcome to GameAmp

1.) your not a n00b your a newbie. Yu have not been playing long enough to bea n00b. I am a n00b.

1.5) Personally I would stick with axes if you want to bea tank and not a damage dealer beacuse it helps you build adrenaline better in the long run. But if you wanna bea spiker use a sword. IIf you wan't to interupt then use hammers.

2.) At the moment I wouldn't worry about that. You are in what we call "pre searing" and have no real need of this. When you get out of thsi via quests it will be a quite obvious where you buy weapons and armor and the like.

3.) Again yo uare in pre searing so you should not worry yet.

4.) No your energy is to uhh weak to use them effectively.

5.)
You will find them from the guy who is clearly marked "skills".

Welcome to guid wars gameamp and the free mmo world. I hope you enjoy it!
p.s. You get iron ingots from salvaging metal weapons/certain armors.
