Sunspear general required for canthan characters?

After i completed nightfall with my (elona-born)ranger i decided to go check out the new minions with my necro. After saving koss i got a quest that required me to be sunspear general. Is this normal, because this would require me to get a LOT of points.
Because i don't want 2 be monsterkilling the next few days i'm just asking this. Is this normal?

Yes, to be able to get any further in the story-line you have to get the rank Sunspear General, even for Canthan or Tyrian born characters. After you get that, the next two ranks (Castellan and SpearMarshal, I believe) are optional.

Basically, what I do is when I go out to do quests and stuff, I talk to the wandering priests and just do my quests normally. I think on the mainland, priests would give you 4 or 7 Sunspear points for every kill.

For most characters, the easiest place to farm Sunspear promotion points is outside Yohlon Haven in Arkjok Ward, where there is a Wandering Priest giving a bounty on Insects and large numbers of Warrior-build Termites who use Frenzy in groups with offensive Paragons and fairly low-powered healers. It shouldn't take more than 10 minutes or so to gain a good hundred Sunspear points with a full hench team, and then you can repeat it.

Yeah, its a pain.....I picked up bounties as I played through on my warrior, and by the time where I needed that level, I only needed about 1k points.

Basically, what I did, go outside Yohlon Haven, to the north(Marga Coast), pickup the bounty, and work around to all the res shrines, try to avoid killing monsters until you get a bounty for them(sometimes ya cant), Clear the whole zone, it took me about 30 minutes and I got about 500 points per time.

Though while exploring on my ele, If you go out the east side of Yohlon Haven, theres about 20 insects(at least) and the res shrine gives you the bounty for them, I think you get something like 4 points per kill, and with that amount of insects, it might take about 10 minutes to kill them all but theres not much running around.

Update in whenever I dont feel lazy.

I just did the quests because at that point they were giving me 100-200 points (I think). Doing the quest group where you had to retake Koss's father's house (a set of 4 missions - which after completing the 4 you get another large bonus) got me all the way to the 2500 needed for General.

The best farming location I found was in Arjok Ward at the Kournan bass where Koss was held. Exit from Pogahn Passage, talk to the priest and proceed on into the base. If you've got a lvl 20 MM with Flesh Golem, the run itslef won't take more than 5-8 minutes (Depending on on your luck) and you can easily net around 180 Sunspear points in that time. The fastest I've ever made that run was with Dunkoro setup to be my Life Sheath prot monk, Master Of Whispers setup as an MM, Zhed setup as a warder and my ele an erth spiker. Whirlwing + AS and then Minions. Gotta love it. Fastest time: 4 minutes 57 seconds :)

For promotion points I like Arkjok Ward starting from Yohlan Haven. Talk to the first priest (insects) and then clear our the insects nearby - there are 24 so you'll get 96 quick promotion points. Rather than restart, I like to slide up the West edge of the zone (run past Howlers if you can) to a priest with a blessing for Mandragors. Go East and you'll find a pile of them. If you look SE from the first Mandragors that you meet there's another shrine for great beasts like the Howlers. With this bleesing you can clear out the whole West half of the map which is full of insects, apes and mandragors. I then usually go all the way up the West edge to the shrine for plants (near the exit to Sunspear Sanctuary I think) and work back SE to the middle of the map and then East past an elemental shrine to a shrine for Kourna near the S edge of the second island from the top of the map. You can then clean out the Kourna up and down the East side of the zone and a bunch of plants including a necro boss near the S-middle of the map.

A full run takes about an hour to an hour and a half with heros and henchies and nets 1200-1300 promotion points, a chance to cap any of a half dozen spells, an inventory full of loot and 1-3K GP. It's a good way to level up heros too.

Another possibility:

* Exit Yohlon Haven to Marga Coast.
* Talk to the priest there to get insects bounty.
* Walk up north to the portal to the other area...
* Talk to the priest there to get kournan bounty.
* Now walk SE to the bottom center of the area (beachy area)
* Talk to the priest there to get skale bounty
* Walk west to the village
* Talk to the priest there to get plant bounty
* Clear out complete area to get 1500 points something

Also works wonders on your hero leveling =]

Did it yesterday with my Ele (heroes: MM, W and Mo)... got my W from 17 -> 20 before I was halfway =]
