I fully believe you should go with the original game first, Prophecies. It has a massive map, that is free for you to roam except for a very few areas. It has beautiful scenery and a great story line. Tons of missions that are long enough to keep you occupied but not sooo long that they will take your whole day each! Thats my 2 cents.

Wow, such fast replys lol.
Thanks for ya info.
One last thing, how much bigger is prophecies, in comparison to nightfall? 2 times?
Oh yea and another thing, level 20 cap, dont seem hard to reach, but how long does it take to reach, roughly. (If you play everyday lol)

I would have to agree with the rest. Prophecies isa very good game, factions was o.k. still havent beat that yet *no comments* and due to certain financial setbacks aka dirt poor :P I am yet to get nightfall, but soon my friends.....soon.......mwhahahahahahahahaha

Prophecies has the biggest map and slowest learning curve. It will allow you to figure out what you are doing before dropping you into battle with high level monsters. Down side is that it may be hard to get groups as a lot of people most likely have purchased nightfall.
Factions smallest map steepest learning curve. Very PvP orientated IMO but i still enjoyed it
Nightfall kind of the intermediate of them all larger map than factions smaller the prophcies steeper learning curve then prophcies but not a steep as factions. More PvE oriented then factions was. Will be easier to get into groups as everyone is new to the nightfall world and trying to do missions.
In my opinion I would get prophecies first as that is a common point to all expansions and it is easier to unlock skills. Good luck and enjoy

i personnally love all 3, but proph and nightfall are my favorites. and as for how long to reach the level cap, it possible to reach it in, oh about out a day and a half, lol. which ever you choose you will have lots o ffun, provided your not in this for pve grinding madness, then you'd probably be better off with wow, just my thoughts, though.

Yes, they are good games, especially considering that they're much, MUCH cheaper than other MMOgames ($50US every 6 months or so if you buy the expansions as opposed to $50US+15 per month).
| QUOTE | | How long do they keep u intrested? |
I've been playing for about 14 or 15 months now and I'm still interested... I've had a couple slumps now and then, but overall I keep coming back to it.
| QUOTE | | How big are the maps, in comparison to each other (Which ones bigger) And how long would it take to walk across them. |
The Prophecies map is... Well, I'd have to guess around twice as large as the Nightfall map in terms of actual land mass, while only about 3/2 as big in terms of actual land area. This definately isn't exact, though, since I've never actually compared the maps getting the scales exact and all that jazz.
In Prophecies, fighting from Frontier Gate (the northeasternmost town) to Maguuma Staade (the southwesternmost town) would take 5 or 6 hours with a full hench team is what I'd guess, while it would probably take about an hour if one just took a bunch of speed boosts and ran by all enemies. The longest continuous area with no available outposts is the route from Beacon's Perch to Camp Rankor, which takes most people 1 1/2-3 hours to fight or about 20-30 minutes to run depending on skill level and luck (this route is known as the Drok's run and is without a doubt the most difficult run in the game).
In Nightfall... Well, to get from Yohlon Haven to Gates of Desolation would probably take around 1 1/2 hours to fight or about 20 minutes to run, or about the same as a quick Drok's run, but that isn't most of the map.
In terms of actual campaign length, it takes most people 30 hours or so to finish the Prophecies campaign the first time due to exploration, questing, and getting max armor and weapons. After the first time through, it'll take most people 20 hours to do if they're intentionally going slowly or as little as 3-4 hours if they're intentionally going as fast as they possibly can.
The Nightfall campaign takes around 20 hours for most first-timers to finish I'd say, with really fast times being closer to 8-12 hours.

Prophecies and Nightfall are actually about the same size, i think. Although I don't know what you mean. Do you mean by popularity, area, missions or what?
Anyway, to get to level 20, it can take a long time or a very short time. It depends on what you want to do. If you only focus on doing the missions and primary quests, it could take you the whole game to get to level 20, while if you focus on going out, and killing everything with some scrolls that give you extra xp, then you could go up levels extremely fast. Personally, I like doing the side quests and missions and everything when i get them. That way, they are somewhat more difficult than if I were fighting against a level 8 boss while I am level 20.

there's plenty to explore. Just look at the maps to the left. I think considering area, Nightfall and Prophecies are about the same, but then again, I haven't yet finished Nightfall.

Ok, I have been doing most of the quests on my ele, taking it faster than someone who just got guildwars, but slower then I did on my warrior. My ele is 10 days old, with a total of 28 hours played on it, and she just reached lvl 20, and has done 5 out of the 20 missions. My warrior though, since he was already lvl 20(he's a warrior from Prophecies), I made it through the game in about 2 days, BUT this is doing no quests but the primary ones, and also doing just enough to beat the missions(as opposed to 3 of the 5 missions my ele has done were done with masters).
So if your just getting the game it will probably take at least a week to get lvl 20, which is where things start getting fun.

I'm a more casual gamer then these crazy fast power levelers.
8-12 hours on Nightfall o.O =( makes me feel slow, try like 40 lol. Prophecies had a ton of landmass to explore, you could go for months (and many do) trying to gte the 100% area explored.
Factions didnt take near as long exploration wise because the missions did a much througher job of requring you to explore every area (it's much more linear then Proph IMO). Im not yet done exploring NF but it seems to be quite large also. It also seems to be alittle more linear then Proph.
My 2 cents

Mmm... As you, i got Factions first (wich i loved) then i decided i had to get prophecies, i found it good but annoying... The coops are extremely long and you get lost lots of times ( XD ), lots of must have skills anyway... Then i bought Nightfall 1 day after release, and OMG i did the second coop (actually the first one, if you count the very first like a tutorial) and I really loved it, it is a noob and short coop but i think it was the coolest I ever did... lol...
And HERE is my best GW video so far...

ive never bought prophecies myself but have played the 14day (2week) free trial and its the best guildwars game to get started on in my opinion. factions just gets booring once your level 20 and every missions almost the same " kill the undead, kill the undead, kill the undead, kill the undead..." so i gave that up aswell, and since nightfalls came out , IT OWNS!! but its a bit more detailed than prophecies in game play. but i guess you'll get used to it. plus there are two more type of professions on it than Prophecies (derivsh and paragon) so its a 50/50 between them both, but i wouldnt get factions as a starter, you'll get bored like i did then sit around waiting for a new guildwars to come out ! =P

Nightfall, looks more open Barron/empty land, with mostly sand and burnt things lol. I prefer, to roam in forests and stuff, I know prophecies, has forests and stuff, does nightfall?? and if soo, is there much greenland?

Nightfall is north Africa-themed; the vast majority of it is sevanna and semi-arid mountains. On the first island, there's a sizable marsh and bog area, but after that there isn't quite so much of that. That isn't to say there's not nice scenery, though; it just isn't green.
In Prophecies, there's a great deal more greenery overall. However, most of the game, especially in the high-end areas, is in a desert, high mountains, or volcanic regions, while after a tutorial zone the beginning area is also a scorched wasteland followed by a short stint through a high mountain range. Probably about half of Prophecies is in the grassy area and jungle around Kryta, though.
Factions has a LOT less greenery and (in my personal opinion) a lot worse scenery than the other two campaigns. Roughly half of the game is in Kaineng City, which is largely just a brown shantytown and is terribly boring to look at, and then another third or so is in either the Echovald Forest (which is petrified; grey and dark, not green and cheery) or the Jade Sea (which is made out of jade, so it's green, just not forest or plant green).
As others have said, though, if you'd like to start on the game, you should probably start with Prophecies.

"I think it really depends on how you play."
I find myself saying that a lot when talking to people about GW. Everything in GW revolves around how you, the player, wants to do things.
If you want to explore, then Proph is your best bet. It's pretty darn big and has a variaty of areas. Prph is also the way to go if you're more into the story elements. It's the first game, so it's like the first book in a series. Shoot, they even refer to the different games as Chapters, so get Chapter 1 if you like story.
I don't have Factions, because it seems more PvP oriented than the others and I'm not really into PvP. Of course I could just be biased/mistaken because there are a lot of things in the games called "faction" and almost all are PvP things. *L*
I haven't played much Nightfall, but what I have played is great. It seems like they've taken the best bits of the other games, added some additional improvements (and yes, bugs too), continued the story, and mixed it all up and called it Nightfall.
I don't think you can go wrong with any of 'em, but it all comes down to what you want to do, and how you want to do it...

Some advise.
Don't sell black or white dye to the merchant wait till you see a dye trader.
From my own experience, once you visit a town you can always travel there again my using the map. I was to Lion's Arch (1/3 of the gam) before I found that one out. The was definately the dumbest thing I ever did in the game but Guildwars is my first and only MMORPG.
Also, wait till at least lvl 7 before doing the mission that says Are you sure you want to do this mission, you will not be able to return here. It makes life alot easier on you for the first time playing.[/COLOR]
