Need help picking a secondary.

With I8 just around the corner i was thinking about bringing my oldest and favorite RP character into the CoH world and making him my new main. So trying to stick as close to the character's bio as possible i was going to take the Katana as his primary set. The problem comes when trying to pick the secondary though. On paper i had made him a mix of regen and Invul but seeing as how i dont know if its possible to do that in the game i have to settle on one or the other.

I'm kinda leaning more towards making him a /invul. In no small part because of his natural origin, the belief he will be fighting the council for a good chunk of his career and the super resistance to their smashing and lethal attacks really appeals to me and because the Invincibility power just seems cheap and godly to my enemys. An A+ plus in my book.

However ive heard some pretty bad things about invul after I5.
Also, I was mostly planning to use this new toon for pve with just a sprinkle of PvP when my self esteem is running low and i need to make myself feel better by pounding a villian's skull into the floor

So in short my questions are:
1) How does invul compare to regen in terms of keeping the person alive and endurance cost? Considering the player is one who likes to take on several yellows at a time with little recovery time in between.

2) Which set is best for PvE with a bit of PvP every once in a while?

3) How does Unyelding compare to Intergration in terms of defence and status resistance?

4) with invul, around what level will i be able to stand in the middle of even and/or +1 level mobs and shrug off their attacks. (i used to be able to do this with IH but...well yea they went and turned it to a click.)
=================================================

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated! Also thanks much in advance!

RE: Need help picking a secondary.

I've played plenty of scrappers and I even took six months to make the rounds playing each secondary up to at least 16-20 at a minimum, and doing it with multiple primaries. After making the rounds it took 10 minutes back with an old regen to decide hands down that regen was the best. I have RL friends that I play COH with that call me crazy and swear by SR, but I think all of them agree that between regen and invuln on a scrapper, regen wins everytime. Invlun works on a tank, but when it shifts to the secondary instead of primary power set it takes a hit. The last toon I played before returning to regen was a spines/invuln scrapper. I got him to 18. Then, because a friend of mine wanted to play on another server I pulled out an old regen and dusted him off. He was a level 8 or 9. It was then that I realized how I had been struggling with invuln. It was almost instant and I won't play another secondary again. Thats my two inf worth anyway.

RE: Need help picking a secondary.

Well, I normally don't play Scrappers, but one of the guys that I work with in real like does and I must say that he is rather impressive to watch at times. He has the exact build that you are considering: Katana with Regeneration. He just hit level 40 and he plays with little downtime. If you like an aggressive style of play, then regeneration should suit you fine. In our earlier levels (10-15), I personally witnessed him mow through large groups of "white" level minions in the Hollows. He would simply jump into the middle of a large group of them and cut them down with ease. Ultimately it's up to you, but my suggestion would be to go for regeneration as well.

RE: Need help picking a secondary.

The 1 level 50 character I have is Katana Primary with Super Reflexes as a secondary.

Some of the major plusses about Super Reflexes...when you have all the toggles and passives running, you don't often get hit.

The Mez protection isn't a toggle. With 3 recharge SOs, it will run perma and will sometimes "stack" on top of itself, so in my opinion, it has the best mez protection of any Scrapper set.

Quickness. I don't have to say much more about this. Scrappers thrive on hitting hard and often.

By the time you're 50, chances are you will take every power in the SR set, possibly skipping "Lucky" which is the AoE passive, although I took it.

City of Heroes/Villains
Onion - L50 - Katana/Super Reflexes/Body Mastery Scrapper
Scotch Bonnet Girl - L50 - Fire Aura/Fire Melee/Pyre Mastery Tanker
RonJ73 - L50 - Stone/Energy Aura Brute
Aurora Australis - L50 - Willpower/Energy Melee Tanker

RE: Need help picking a secondary.

Regen is low downtime eith no *need* for fitness. Invuln can be rough though. It has no *real* resistence to non smash/lethal till Unyeilding, and even when you do get it, you'll be hit more until you can pick up Invince and Tough Hide at 28 and 35, respectively. That said, once you do have Invince, it can be very possible to slot only one Acc in each attack, making room for another end redux in your attacks, which greatly helps your endurance usage. Invuln is a great set, but on a Scrapper/Brute it is very late blooming.

My advice is Regen, but Invuln is also good, and possibly better for PvE in the late game, and certainly better for mini-tanking, as its more capable of surviving alot of quick incoming damage.

Regen for solo and PvP, Invuln for PvE teaming.
