As a sophmore at my high school, we get our class rings. I was looking through the brochure(sp?) they handed out. Between that, and the talk from the Balfour sales rep, I came to the realization that my class ring doesn't have to have: 1)The name of the school, 2)The school mascot, or 3) The school colors. Now, I know they are just trying to appeal to people who wouldn't ordinarily get a class ring, but doesn't it kinda defeat the purpose of Class rings if it has nothing to do with your school? I'm gonna go for the traditional ring, but I just wanted to know what you guys thought.

Dont waste your money or your parents money. I got one, worthless. It looks like an oversized gaudy jewelry reject from the Family. "Hey yo Louie, check out my new ring".
I could of use the $100 or more...dont remember dollars on my car, on a girl, on new something or other. Heck, I dont even know where mine is now. My thing is this is a relic of a bygone time. Back in the time pre-70's this was a thing to have. Much like the covetted varisty jacket (which I think is far better item to have and earn. now that I know where it is still). But hey thats just my thing, if you get it by all means in join it. Maybe get your hero, your archetype, your level (just do 50), and your heroes main color. Maybe have them emblazon your heroes battle call on the inside of the ring. Call it your Green Latern power ring! Wonder if I can get a refund?

Bubba, I don't want to discourage you, but you might want to hold off on the ring if you're planning on going to college. I spent four or five hundred dollars on my class ring in high school, and I couldn't tell you where the freaking thing is right now.
If you decide to grab one, go for something classic (like you already mentioned) and relatively cheap. You'll probably toss it once you get to college because everyone will think you're strange for wearing it. I'm not exaggerating...You'll actually get asked why you're still wearing it. Good luck with the process. :)

eh, don't listen to these old folks. The class ring is there to help you remember all the (supposedly) good times you had in high school. I don't think there's all that much wrong with wearing your high school ring at college, it shows you were proud to go to (insert name of high school).
i've got a ring. No, i don't wear it to college, just for the fear of losing it somewhere. But i know, if it's a special event, (like for example, IF i were to ever go on a first date, type of thing), you've got that ring. Also, can be a helpful conversation starter, incase you are stumped.

I, a junior in high school, passed up the college ring for the same thoughts as what these guys here are saying. alot of my friends got them, spent about $150 dollars, and they're already lost. and that gives me license beforehand to laugh at them, because i told them specifically, "I dont need a ring to remember high school by, you guys have left scars in my arm that will never heal. any time i get nostalgic, i can always look down at my disfigured arm and think of you." and they were so proud once they got them, and they told me i shoulda got one, but i knew that once high school ended, theyd be treated wierd for wearing them. and i love the guys who use the arguement : "My dad still wears HIS high school ring." which is very funny, because ive actually met the dads they're talkin about, and they're definately not someone to emulate on purpose.
wow, little rant. ignore what i just wrote and read: i agree with the above mentioned posts. do not get a high school ring, but you may want a college one.

Save your money for senior rings on graduation (provided your school does that)...THOSE are really expensive. Mine ran me some where around $600 to 650 bucks.
When i was in my senior year of junior high we were able to buy rings and i jumped at the chance thinking: "Its gonna be SO cool!" untill i got the ring like 6 months later. I think i wore it three times then put it somewhere and havent seen it again. Now that i think about it i could have put that $150 i spent on that ring towards a new guitar or new music gear.
Anyway, yea just wait till senior year to buy a ring.

I also passed on a high school ring a couple years ago and have never really regretted it. For the few days after they come in you feel a little left out but after one or two days goes by no one even cares about them anymore.

in the famous words of mattel:

wearing a high school ring in college is like brazil in the summer: not cool.
save your money. spend it on some libations of sorts. usually those types of rings are worn only on special occasions like high school reunions
