I know a lot of people have female characters while being male. (omg shame on them!) So have I. (omg shame on me!) But i was wondering why you have them.. some say because the armor looks better on them.. then again if you want ''real armor'' it looks better on males as female armor doesnt give that much protection. ;) Ive seen people say they have female chars because they have to look at an ass run around all day.. why not look at some nice ass... (good point.. gooood point.. Yes i know they are pixels!) But a very popular reply is also (especially in the World of Wow :P) that you get gifts and more help when you pretend to be female..
I have female chars if i think they ''fit'' to the profession more then males.. (my monk is female..) and well quite simply cause i want to have female chars and male chars. But some people (Dragoniusx) have only got female chars..
So why do you have a female char when you are male? or why do you have a male char when you are female? or why do you have a male char when you are male? or why do you have a female char when you are female? or why do you.. oh that was it..
then again you could say you wear your cape.. :P or just the old pixel story.. :P

A bit off topic, but I have always wondered about the pixel argument. How are computer pixels different from pictures in magazines or television? Or even a glance of a real life famous person that you have seen from a distance. All of them are just images of people you will never actually touch. I think a computer character is far more real than a movie star. And the way those pixels look and act have quite an impact me. Probably more than 'real' untouchable person ever has.
For me, it goes back to early Tomb Raider days, and watching Lara Croft run around. It seems (to me anyway) that graphics designers put more attention and detail into female characters than male. More customization selection for faces, hair, clothing/armour, etc., plus they're just aesthetically (there's a 25-cent word, eh?) better "drawn".
When I look at games like Sims 2, Bloodrayne, Perfect Dark Zero, The Elder Scrolls (Morrowind, Oblivion) etc., where the main character is (or you can select/design) female - I can see the difference.
Not to say that the graphics for male char's are shoddy, just not at the same level of detail to me. With a 512mb video card, 19" monitor at 1280x1024, and 2gb RAM, I usually have my graphics cranked as high as the game will allow - so yeah, detail and artwork is important to me.
PS: The female char's DO have nicer butts! :)

I have both male and female chars... and for different reasons. Some examples:
Got a male warrior... coz its so stereotype to have a BIG man showing off
Got a male necro coz of the dance emote (really the only reason)
Got a female dervish coz I dont like playing a man wearing a dress
Got a female ranger coz it looks good to have a very small female with a huge hammer ... Muahahahah (thumper ftw)

Well, computer pixels are no different from pictures in magazines really.. however pictures from magazines are pictures taken from ''real'' people and the characters ingame are fake.. thats the big thought behind it I think... :P
If you look only at the fact that both pictures and pixels arent real then yeah.. there is no difference. :)

well, it is a role-playing game, lets not forget that. you can play any role you want, be it either male or female. i see no reason to desperately hang on to male characters just because i happen to be a guy. besides, we're all curious to know what it's like.
I play both. It really depends on which art I like better. I think the Warrior Male looks better than the Female. I think the Necro Female looks much, much better than the constipated looking Male Necro.

Well, the "staring at an ass" reasoning may sound silly to some people, but it is a valid argument.
Hell, it's so commonly said by people that it finds it's way into comics easily nowadays.
Example:

Myself, I think another nice thing about it is that when it comes to fighting it is always still more common to picture a man doing so.
It's just funny to kill a huge, ugly and slimey creature or smack some other player down in PvP with a female character because then you conquered a little territory in imagination.
Let's be honest, the vast majority of people would feel more frustrated in the event of being beaten the crap out of by a woman as opposed to a man - if they're the type that gets frustrated by such a thing at all that is.
Mostly I choose what chars are female and which aren't based on professions... Warrior, Ranger and Dervish will never ever be female on my account, but monk, mesmer and ritualist are most certainly female to me (the only exception being male ritualists with 15k kurzick. I'll accept that as male :P)
Assasin, Necromancer, Elemenalist and Paragon are all 50/50 for me.
And I say that the "fake" humans that are our characters were at least build to feel similar to "real" humans. I don't mind my monk being good looking ^^

A strong reason I've taken several female characters is because the many of the males in GW *look down right homo sexual. This happens to not be my sexual preference of choice. GW is bad about being to biased towards females in my opinion. Count the number of box art females vs. males. At first impression, I always assume everyone in real life is a male anyways.
*Mesmer seems to be this way most, with Paragon as a close second. Male ele's don't all look gay, but their dance sure does. Ah, but that's why I love making my PvP's male eles... to show off the funny dance. These are just my opinions, and shouldn't matter jack if you have one of these characters.
EDIT: detailed resoning about my 6 PvE's deleted because it wansn't important, and I write too much. What mattered is that I have 3 males and 3 females.
As far as the comments about "it's only pixels", some people are into cartoon/3d model chicks. There's plenty of fetishes people are into, and this is just one. I'm not into this particular fetish. But when someone says "it's only pixels", they don't mean pixels of real chicks. Though literally that's what it means. Though the idea of a cartoon or 3d model chick can at times be sexy (as the idea of a character from a book can be sexy), I think it would be disturbing to have relations with cartoon. I'd take Amy Smart or Zena Onatop over any one of my GW characters :) Even if I was into 3d models, it'd almost seem like borderline incest with a character I'm that familiar with.
I create an avatar in a game to closely resemble me as much as possible. That's part of the immersion for me. So any character i'm going to play for a decent length of time is going to be male :p

i have 1 male char and the rest are female, i just prefer the looks of the femae characters. when i build them i look at all the male parts then all the female parts before i choose what i want, + names for females i find easier to think of and they are more catchy.. other thing is i can get away with more as a female char, as u cant have a big male warrior called chu chu rocket, as that sounds dumb.
I think the only part is where they throw their fingers back. When they are bobbing up and down with hands at their sides (the funniest part to me) isn't from Sinefeld is it?
But nice, I never made the corelation to part of the dance before.
That dance is actually based on a dance from Seinfeld. As performed by the leading lady :P

So far I havent seen anyone post the popular WoW reason behind having female chars. A friend of mine has made a female char for that reason.. and yes he plays (read is addicted to) WoW.

All my characters are chicks... I thing they look very good. I've only been semi impressed w/ the males... I just wish they would offer fishnets and pigtails for EVERY class

All 12 of my toons are girls because being a girl myself I feel comfortable with it. When people talk to me through my toon they refer me as she/her which is much better ^^. A while back we joined an alliance of young 12-14 year old boys and they we shocked at the fact a GIRL was playing! Sigh =p girls play games too you know. =) Lets just say my guild didnt stay too long because the boys got a little macho in front of me and started showing off...and began asking me absurd questions asking me to show my body parts. (You get the picture..)
Anyway back on topic. I love making girl characters cause they look adorable. My monk for example is a tiny little blonde in blue armour, I like acting cute around people =p and then say bye-bye when I beat them in pvp. ^^
My guildie who also is a girl decided to make a male warrior, with long blonde hair and baby pink armour. =D She says her warrior likes to get in touch with his feminine side!
Well, we have only 5 out of the 10 officers who are girls IRL... One of them has actually only male characters, an other has mostly male ones. :P The leader is a guy, but... well, sometimes I think he likes to touch his feminime side too. xD (just kidding, Reg, just kidding! :P)

Actually I have to add armour has a lot to do with it too. I love my (useless lighting +25) Black Ninja armour. I even use it when I should use my Druids for energy because the look and style of my character is important to me and that extends to weapons too. Anyone remember the days when Stormbows cost a bajillion gold? I automatically didn't want one because they were all blingy and shiny.
I always refer to female characters as he's as I always assume they're some teenage boys.
Personally I don't use female chars that much (only got 1 in all of the games I play) as I feel it to be a bit awkward. Why should I present myself as a female in a game if I'm a guy IRL? Well yeah the obvious comes to my mind: "I'm a girl! Give me free stuff!" :P
I don't get the comment "Girls backside is more fun to look at then a guy's, even if it's pixelated"....uhmz right....
I don't know about you but I don't play online games to stare at people's behinds, I do it for the fun (doing stuff with other people,adventuring and all that usual). If I really need to stare and drool looking at some arse, I can go outside and drool over real ones. O.o

I'm sorry but I have to ROTFLMFAO ( F in this case is fat ;) ) Okay, now that is over and done with, me, being of the male gender, have 10 happy male characters (happy becuase they know they get a set of 15k armor). Now, the reason, simple. I do not need some 15-year old pot head whispering me saying (and I so do quote), "you lok hawt" (Great how english is taught in schools) So yeah, don't need sexual harassment from idiots, morons, potheads etc. etc. da da da da. AND to add on with more wisdom, WHY DOES IT MATTER? Looks aren't everything. Of course saying that and getting 15k armor kinda makes me a hypocrite. Well, no...I get 15k armor becuase i have nothing better to buy with me gold...so yeah, I'm a semi hypocri...
