Event Complaint

Hello all,

Today I saw the notice about triple green drops in Elona this weekend. Honnestly, I am sick of these double, triple weekends. They have had an event every weekend since the Dragon Festival and I wish they would stop them for a while. They are not special anymore!

Here are my arguments for stopping event weekends for a while and what is wrong with this one:

1. Most of us have a brand new game to explore so its not like we have nothing to do.

2. I really don't know what boss drops what and what I would even want to farm. Need more time to see what is out there.

3. We had a triple green drop weekend like 4 weeks ago. Yes different greens but I still have a bunch of them laying around in storage.

4. I need to actually do something other than play guild wars on the weekends and they are making it really hard which is probably the main reason for the weekends.

Sorry for venting but I guess this is the place for it.

RE: Event Complaint

the event doesnt mean you still cant play the game, lots of people will keep playing, stop complaining, if you dont want to farm greens, dont farm greens.. if you dont want a haloween hat.. dont go to the event... if you want to be very bored on GW, continue what you are doing now

I think this is why it's a great time for this event. It'll help everyone figure out what sort of unique items are dropped around Elona. The factions one that was so late was a bit odd, but welcomed by me anyway, as anything that might help me pick up something interesting is, but this is good timing, IMO. Also, it seems like the focus here isn't really on farming greens, so much as circulating them to those that run into bosses on their journey. If you farm greens, they'll drop eventually, but if you just kill a boss once, exploring Elona, you need to have some luck.

Whoa! settle down there!

I have a right to post how I feel about these events. Gaile herself tells people to post their feelings about the game on forums since they review them frequently. I just want to share my opinion. It just sucks that you can't post anything slightly negative nowadays on this forum. Nothing is perfect.

RE: Event Complaint

The point is economic. By increasing the supply in anticipation of increased demand for NF greens, you lower the prices. So partipate or not, you still can get better equipment for cheaper. That, in my opinion, is a good thing.

Oh, by the way, don't get offended when people disagree with you. I know you have a right to express your opinions and whatnot. People disagree; it happens. And, I might add, disagreements are "opinions" too.

RE: Event Complaint

Usually, I dont reply to topics like this but....

I somewhat agree. When the events are going on, people go and do the events. Like for expamle, last weekend, we had double factions. When we try to do missons, no one is around to do it, they are all busy with the event. Sure, I can do the missons on weekdays, but I have work/school/homework, etc. So usually, people play on the weekends. But with all the events going on, it is so hard to fight a group.

But, with that said. Events are fun. =)

Thank you Maqulvent for this siggy

Events are fun but there is no reason they can't take a weekend off now and again.

I don't care if people disagree with me and that's there opinion but it was a quite forceful posting. I was commenting on how he said it and not what he said.

RE: Event Complaint

They're just doing these events to show the community that they're focused on us. They want to do nice things for us.

I really don't understand your concern, you don't have to participate or do anything. You're also not losing anything, they don't spend weeks programming these things, it probably takes less than an hour. If you participate, you get a better chance for a drop. What's to lose here?

It's not like they're forcing anything on you.

This event can only have benefits. Such as prices dropping, the more supply, the cheaper. And you have 3x as much chance to discover a new green. This event is, if anything, a way for people to find out what boss drops what; which was one of your concerns.
--------------
1. Most of us have a brand new game to explore so its not like we have nothing to do.
Yes, and people have new chars and heroes to equip. They want greens.

2. I really don't know what boss drops what and what I would even want to farm. Need more time to see what is out there.
And this event will help you to find out who drops what.

3. We had a triple green drop weekend like 4 weeks ago. Yes different greens but I still have a bunch of them laying around in storage.
Then sell them or give them to heroes.

4. I need to actually do something other than play guild wars on the weekends and they are making it really hard which is probably the main reason for the weekends.
The majority of players probably have the weekends off of school or work. You're one of the few who don't have it off.

I would just like to point out that A-Net doesn't have to give us events.

be thankful for what we get, we didn't pay for the events, they are bonuses.

RE: Event Complaint

Yes, I agree that making an event every weekends makes events almost common and not very special "events" anymore, but that's not a reason to stop...

I don't see why complaining, since, It's still for fun and if you don't want to participate, just don't.

I almost could almost compare it to someone who would complain because there are too many bonus missions, which may refrain you from exploring the new game or doing the mission, you don't know what the bonus is yet and want to see what is the mission first, you already did some bonus missions before this one, and that you want to do other than doing bonuses :P (just don't participate)

This shows that people are interested in those events... They are fun and I don't see enough reasons to have to remove them...

Just play normally, if you kill a boss and get a green, well, say thanks to A-net.

Think of everything having more than one side. Take things with a grain of salt.

Many people enjoy these games/events, why stop them because you find them coming to fast and have no time to find the boss with the most expensive green?

ANet isn't really forcing you to go out and farm are they? You don't have to go out hunting bosses to get greens. Play the game if you want to, I plan to.

RE: Event Complaint

Well first you are right you do have the right to express your opinions and to counter that so does everyone else. When you post something like this you are bound to get people to disagree with you.

Now as for the topic
1. I love all the weekends. I don't necessarily participate in all of the directly (like farming for greens and dyes) but I benifit none the less. If I am doing the missions/quests with my characters the chances of getting a green from a boss have now increased so that I have a better chance of getting one just playing through the missons and quests. same with the dye, I didn't farm for it but I got 2 blacks 3 whites and numorous other colors just playing throught the game.

2. Personally I think they shoudl have waited a little longer because the casual player still doesn't have access to all the map yet. I myself play an hour or 2 a night including weekends, as I am trying to take my time and do the quests and mission I just got to the bazarr. But hey you can't win everything.

In closing we should all be thatnkful that anet takes the time to put these events together and remember they benifit all of us in way we not not see outright (some more then others).

You say be thankful, but AFAIK I payed for my copy of the game, so yes they do have to provide me with something to keep playing, although they're only obligated to provide access to their servers - if they want people to keep playing they have to keep it fresh.

Saying be thankful for what we get makes it sound like this whole game is entirely free and we are lucky to be playing it - which quite franky isn't true so far altogether I've payed around ฃ100 :)

RE: Event Complaint

We also have to consider the number of new players that are just getting into the game. Events like this are a "hook" to entice them to play more, and to tell their friends about "... this cool game with no subscription fees, and special events every weekend..."

By providing bonus weekends, they (read "A-Net") are catering to various groups within their community. The strictly PvP players benefit from the faction bonuses, the farmers - or former farmers - from the dye drop and green weekends, etc. Eventually I'm sure, they will provide so many varied events that nearly every type of player's preference will be met.

For the type of player that likes to take their time with the game, explore and do every mission & quest, skill cap every elite and strive for GM Cartographer like me, these bonus drop weekends are a lot of fun as they provide a greater opportunity to make their detailed explorations more worthwhile and profitable. In 4 months of playing, I think I got 3 green drops. Then again, I'm "spreading the love" between 9 characters on 3 continents in various stages of development.

If you don't want to participate in the bonus weekends - then conduct business as usual. The beauty of this game is that it's so open-ended that you can set your own goals to accomplish, or just pick around with it however you want.

I completely agree. I love the fact that there are special events on the weekend, it gives me something to look forward to. Cos 5days a week im at school. Then after im usually studying and doin homework, or goin out. So on the weekends i go on the special event for about 1+1/2 hours.

And yes, events are fun.

P.S i dont play on GW that much cos if u play a game for 5 hours a day then u will end up getting bored of it and become braindead.

I read the first post, no more, if this has been said, then Kudos... I just don't wanna trawl through another complaint thread, they just end up irritating me.

Just because ANet offer a special Weekend, does not mean you need to participate.

If you have other things to do at the weekend, then go do them.

If you still have exloring to do, there's nothing stopping you from doing it.

You don't know which Greens, which Boss drops? Well what better way to find out?

I'll just add, we should all hope that ANet don't actually listen to this complaint... I mean damn, now were complaining that they're constantly doing things for us... I suppose we'd all be happy with 0 events and 0 updates for 2 months?? Not I.

EDIT: Ah crap, I did actually read through after posting... and it would appear there are a tonne of other people who have the same thoughts.

RE: Event Complaint

Genesis makes a very valid point. A-Net has read the hundreds of posts that say we are bored, we need more of this, we need it more of that. ithas to be harder etc.

A-net makes it harder, reply: "now we cant farm!"

A-net gives us more events, reply: "why are there so many events? I dont want any of this."

So in conclusion I will give you the following analogy:

"A boy walks up to his mom and asks her for a cookie, and mom has been working really hard on trying to make this boy happy, so she says ok and gives him the cookie. The next day the boy walks up to his mom and says, "this cookie was not enough, i ate it and I was still craving more." so she gives him two cookies. So then the next day the boy comes back saying, "you obviously didnt understand what I meant by more." So in order to please him she makes him a lot of cookies, and then gave him the whole jar after she was done. The next day the boy says to the mom, "why did you give me so many cookies, now I am sick..."

So moral of the story is: Be quiet and eat your cookie :)

RE: Event Complaint

I agree the bonus weekends are too often. What ANet is trying to do with them is admirable, but they loose their special quality and become expected. Also, limiting promos to weekends are bad for people who only play during the week.

PRO:
Keep the game fresh for those who play so much they run out of ideas for what to do.

CON:
I want to play the game. One weekend I may feel like PvP, one PvE, one an element of PvP that isn't being promoed. But on some weekends when I feel like doing something else, I grind the promo because I know it's "limited time". This makes the game less fun. I feel stupid for letting myself get suckered into this method of play, and it only happens that way some of the time.

One thing I think when I see a promo that reduces grinding is "why isn't it always this way"? Sometimes seems like a cop-out to make grinding seem like less than it really is.

It's almost the same logic behind the "GW is putting out chapters too fast" argument. Sure I'm glad they are available, but not wanting to do much PvP without being UAX, this becomes somewhat of a "be careful what you ask for" senario.
