Just wanted to throw this out here, since I spent about 60k on my new heroes of one char.
Heroes should be set like PvP chars. Switch Armors/weapons without spending money every time you want a new build.
The way they're set now, it's too rigid. Once you set someone up as a build, you don't want to change it because you'd have to buy new runes.
So I think Heroes should be set like the new PvP char settings.
I'm sick of buying and salvaging runes every time I want a new build on a hero. This may be a gold sink, but I think it's a bit much.
Ideas or something you've found works?

I used as a start for their build the setting they were in. Furthermore i have only added new armour for them (doesnt cost anything; just some time to do the challenge mission). No runes; no new equipment; just the att and skillsetting i deemed good for them. I havent had any problems with any of the heros yet. Indeed; they are slightly less effective then with equipped runes, but the only hero i would add runes to would be olias whos set as mm. Since i have 10 characters that i would like to pass through elona, i already deemed heros to expensive and made the discicion to not buy runes in the very beginning.
Setting them up with the PvP possibilities however is a great idea. It enables you to experiment more and setting their builds more effective. It also prevents the rune-economy to go through the roof. Last time i checked the sup death rune it was 5k. Thats the most expensive it has been in a very long time.
Needed to equip heros with weapons and runes? Imho; no. Would it be handy and more versatile? Yes.
Just my 2/c

IMO nothing should change about the heroes ;-)
I mean:
Use collector's weapons with upgrades you find or bonus pack weapons.
Only add runes/insignia's when you find them.
The game is not even out 1 month, if you want all heroes for most of your chars with all perfect weapons with great skin... It will cost a fortune..
Just take your time to upgrade them, they'll be better than the average Stephan-Little Thom anyway ;-)

I agree about the heroes being expensive. I have 11 char slots and kitting out all heroes for each char will be expensive!
It's a good thing i'm a horder and have lots of decent weapons in reserve. I've got most of my heroes on my Dervish pimped out with greens.
I think collectors items is a good option for weapons as they don't cost anything and you can keep adding the mods as you get them, but as for Runes and armour upgrades, In my opinion these are a must to get the best out of them and make them as effective as possible. It would be good if they could look at alternatives to buying these for every hero for every character.

I'd rather not see the heroes change to PvP settings... that way the difference between real players and heroes might get too small (no more community play) for the majority of ppl.
Some ppl will stuff their heroes with all runes... can't prevent that... but if you make them free, everyone will have a death 16 MM hero and such... that way more ppl might be tempted to take heroes only on questing and missions instead of joining a party of players.

i dnt really mind..
i have:
2 warriors
2 necros
2 elems
2 rangers
2 monks
1 derv
1 para
1 mes
1 assassin
with the ones i have 2 of just set up 2 common + different build then decide on which to take into battle depending on build..
for example i have 1 ranger interupter and 1 barrage ranger.. if i want interupt i take the interupt one, if not i take the barrage one..
besides i rarly want to change to more than 2 builds. (reguarding runes) as its too expensive anyway. and simple skill changing is easy
See my guide to Sigs here!

The most direct effect that the introduction of heroes has had on the game economy is that rune/insignia farming is again a feasible way of earning your income. Before NF almost all runes were selling for dirt and it was more profitable to dump the runed armors directly to a merchant instead of salvaging the rune and taking it to the trader.
Also, when equipping your heroes remember to keep an eye on the relative prices of runes of various potency. In most cases major runes are way cheaper than either minor or superior ones, and many builds are just fine with two majors instead of one minor and one superior, at a fraction of the cost.
