ok so I have a problem...maybe some of you have an opinion on this problem. I have a crapload of plus crit to spells gear, I crit 75% of the time, every spell almost in raid crits, BUT on damage meters I am lower than the other mages...should I give up my awesome crits for plus damage gear? Or should I just keep critting the crap out of my targets and be mage enough to say hell Im okay with not being on top of the damage meters.
What to do...what to do.

If your crits are that awesome, they won't be around long enough to notice your undervalued gear.

I agree with Bro on that. If you do 5000 damage and another mage does 12000, but you do yours via crits over 5 seconds where it takes the other mage 20 seconds to do that, I'd stick with what you've got. Even if you depelete all your energy, by the time your foe has the time to res and get back into the fight, you're pretty much ready to go again.
I guess what you're looking at is actually two different types of play styles. Seems like your would be more of a hang out and strategicly choose your target to cripple the other teams strategy, or possibly weaken the most threatening of the foes. The ones that do more damage I would say are more for AoE attacks and focusing more on hurting everyone a little bit at a time.
So I would say, do you enjoy picking a target to decimate every so often or would you rather put the stress on a few foes at once by whittling away their hit points?
I dunno, maybe I'm wrong, but that's how I see it.

I'm not sure if your crits give you anything extra. I have a tallent that lowers the casting time of my next spell by one second when ever I crit on a spell. If you have something like this, I would say keep the crit gear. If you don't, maybe you should trade in some of the crit gear for some that will give you higher damage.

In the raids your crit gear will offer good burst damage while the other mages are doing the steady DPS. So actually having the high end reporting damage mages and high crit percentage mages in the same raid makes for a good balance.
I'm finding that as I attain better gear I do keep more specific gear for some applications, and I have started gathering pieces that add +DMG and +Chance to crit.
The raid crew you are running with might make a difference. The one thing to watch out for with crits is aggro management. In PvP play the crits are good for a quick enemy drop, aggro management isn't so regulated. But in the big raids a crit could pull a boss off of the main tanks. If they have a good handle on the aggro, then you are fine.
Have you compared your gear against your raid mates? You would be suprised at what a few levels of gear does to your DPS. If they are a little farther along than you they will keep ahead of you in the DPS meters even if you switch to DPS gear.
Here is a handy link to MAXdps.com in the mage section: MAXdps - Mage
It'll show you some good places to get raid and non raid DPS gear. If you do Molten Core a lot, keep your eye out for that Aszure Mageblade. It has +spell damage and an added 1% to crit chance.

Yeah we are all about the same in gear, I am finishing my netherwind set, just to have. I currently run BWL mostly just because my schedule is not conducive to running Naxx and AQ40 right now. Naxx is fun though and I have been in there quite a few times. I wear a commanders set for PvP for the bonus stam and armor. PvP is not the issue, I kill things before they can get to me. Thats why its strange that I am so far down in the DMG meters in raid. I think I figured out the problem though.... My burn affect is resisted or immune in MC when I can use fire almost ALL the time. So that takes away over +1000 damage on my targets...which blows for me. Also in BWL it is resisted quite a bit, but I am higher on the DMG meters there...So I guess I will be switching over maybe.
I dont have a problem on threat meters I use KTHL and always keep an eye on that, I cant say the same thing for the other mages that do not crit as much though....they do not pay attention and have issues....I yell...they dont listen....I am going to start suggesting to healers to let them die...but I dont think they will. Ah well. Anyway thanks for your opinions, I appreciate any others you guys or anyone else has.
And thanks for the site Thunder. I am looking at it now.
