ok im sticking this in General as its not GW related but maybe useful to people here.. i was going to submit it as a guide but i feel the guides section should be kept to GW related topics only, this is the first guide..
NOTE i should probably say that these guides are not 100% in depth you may require some knowledge of photoshop, i tried to do it as in depth as possible, but some may stuggle.

nice guides NexTy, so now I know what to do when I "borrow" photoshop from somewhere (not saying where). Now, to go with my other plan of free software, I needs a guide to macromedia flash, never could get that to work...

omg.. i re-read these things 3 times each, and each time i edited it i re-read it again.. and guess what
i just found another spelling/grammatical mistake.. i just cant WIN!. oh well atleast people get the point.
@ Soqed im not very good at flash i have what they call a "general working knowledge"... there is however some more experienced flash users around here.. maybe we could get them to write a guide?? :)
forgot to add.. the shine finished product looks like this i picked a bad image and colour.. i would have gone back and made it brighter or the sword layer darker so it stood out..

I'm already stuck at step 2, I'm not english so I'm realy gettin crazy of this. It won't draw a line or something you call "rectangular thingy".
Just don't understand what you mean with that, and I can add 3 kinds of layers too.. just very confusing and it drives me mad!
I'm really so pissed of.. just wanna creat something with photoshop that looks nice =(
UPDATE: I got the white l now, but I can't like.. "select it" so that I can turn it into the point of the blade. Just realy vague. In your picture you seem to have much more layers too =
I selected the blade of my sword with the lasso tool, and when I draw the "shine" line, it just like.. disappears. (When selecter your guide says "add as new layer", so I right-mouse clicked and pressed "As new layer..")
>>FORGET ALL THE ABOVE<<
I almost done the whole thing, but how do I "move" the shine? I didn't got a pic of a blade.. maybe that's the diff, but I don't see how to select that layer and move it..
Going crazy here rofl, especialy because ur gone and don't respond ^^
Ok, it's 21:00 here now, I gotta stop. Hope you've responded tomorrow..

Ok another post: I tried to add some snow, but at step 4... the 3rd piece of text.. *horror sounds* WAAAH!!
What are you saying there? canvas size to.. and than back.. and than again... and than you should be back to where you started.. rrrright -.-' I'll post a screen of it:
Click >>HERE<< to see it.
Hope you can help me with this.. =(
Ok, I got trough step 4, and I hope I've done it right. Now you say: copy the layer to your siganture. How do I copy it? Can't press ctrl+v or anything. Really mad on myself that I'm stuck at this nity detail...
EDIT: At the end of step 4, you say: "you should be back to where you started now". I just see a black image and nothing els.. This means I see no snow anymore what soever. It happens when chaning the canvas size and achoring it.. I wish you lived next door, cus this is realy killing me argh. It seems ur gone =\
It's 21:00 here now, I gotta stop. Hope you've responded tomorrow..

ok im confused here. you should have layer wise..
starting at bottom
1. the sig layer
2. the layer with the cutout of the blade using the poloygon lasso tool (one under the rectancle one on the left, 2nd one down)
3. the shine layer
if you hold Control and click on the thumbnail of the layer u had the cutout of your sword on it will auto select everything in this layer (the out line of the sword) then while this is highlighted on the signature.. select the shine layer (single click in layers window) and press the "layer mask" button as shown in guide.. then delete the little link symbol in the layers pallet.
your shine will be invisable on the sig now.. untill its over the blade..
i'm sorry for the confusion,

i admit this canvas sizing is the Hardest and most complicated part.. and only neccessary for smooth and seemless animation.. if you wanted you can simplify the whole step by making the snow image double the size in height to your sig you are going to put it on.. then when you copy it in.. it will be big enough to animate.. the only reason the canvas sizing is there it to make sure that the snow is the same consistency throughtout the animation, so it looks like less off a loop and more like a real random animation..
i will however explain it anyway :)
(here is one way to do it)
you have 2 images the same size, one is black with snow on it, and one is your signature..
the black one with snow on it has 2 layers.. one is the black background and one is the snow itself that you just brushed on..
select the snow and copy it..
go to your signature. paste the snow (should make its own layer automatically) move the layer so its on top of all other layers
now go to Image (drop down menu) and select canvas size, in the settings make sure width and height are in "pixels" and change the height one so that its double whatever it says in that box. once that is done a little image underneath had some arows in it.. click the bottom center one. to anchor it to the bottom.click ok (this gives you a message click ok on it)
now go back to Image > canvas size window and set the height back to normal, but anchor it at the top center
now you should have nothing visable as your sig.. paste in the snow again.. and move this layer to the top of the layers panel (above other snow layer) and press CRTL + E to merge them
The snow layer is now twice the size of the sig (in height) and completely the same in 2 instances..(this is what we have just done)
you will need to go back to image > canvas size again (with double height) so the bottom bit appears again..
and then you will have to do it again and anchor it at the bottom with normal height so that you have your sig back to the origional size but now we have snow on it.
as i said its a very long winded approach but ensures a better animation.. if you dnt wanna do all that.. do what i said above and skip it all and just make a snow layer that is exactly double the height of your sig.. its alot easier but it doesnt blend as smoothly :)

hello gunther...
brush options for the snow? ok.. what version of photoshop do you have?
i have both ps7 and Cs2
i am using cs2 atm, but i can always find out in ps7 to see if its different..
there are a few ways to get to the brushes part..
1 way is to press (F5) key
another is to go to window > brushes
and the last one is click the brushes tab on the tool bar across the top. (its about center right)
when the window pops up u can click on the selections (tick boxes + names) and they open another panel to the right of them with all the settings in.
need more info.. ill take some SS's :)
oh just checked it out.. make sure you have the brush tool selected otherwise it greys out the option for brushes!!! >.<

Ok you never going to beleive this, but I just got stuck again.. something you forgot to write in ur guide (I think), how do I save the sig? If I save it in Photoshop as a .JPG image, it won't animate it. And with Imageready you can only save it as a photoshop document.
Gonna try some though..
P.S. I wasn't able to move the "shine", because I have the wrong tool selected in stead of move tool =].

1,5 Mb is too large to host in your profile. Save 4-up optimized. It will get below 500Kb then. 500 Kb is supported.

do what is said above! ^ ^ ^
Or if the image is large you can cut down the physical size (dimentions width and height) of it so its file size gets smaller :)
espcially as the sigs here on gameamp have a MAX SIZE,
600 Width
250 Height is MAX
try not to exceed this please :) or we will get in trouble :)
**EDIT** nice to see some snow effect signatures popping up for xmas.. and its even nicer to see people have taken it a bit further and created their own effects..
