DofA Team Build Become Greatness

First off, hello, I'm new here.

Now, down to the business of this thread.
Note:(all of this is theoretical because my friend and I, who colaborated to get the ideas presented here now, do not know enough GW players to properly run this. My friend also recently joined the GameAmp forums under the name Alvaron.)
This idea takes elements of the Greater Conflageration/Winter/Mantra of Frost build that Tribina posted and builds on it. The first 4 members of the team would be set in stone, being:

1 Bonding Monk (Mo/*)
Life Attunement
Life Bond
Life Barrier
Balthazar's Spirit
Essence Bond
Blessed Signet
Rebirth
(undecided about this last one. suggestions?)

1 Healing Monk (Mo/*)
(just a standard healer build, but be sure to bring Dwayna's Kiss)

1 Spirit Ranger (R/Mo)
Greater Conflagration
Winter
Troll Unguent
Apply Poison
Lightbringer's Gaze
Rebirth
Throw Dirt
Dryder's Defenses

1 Enchantment Tank (D/Me)
Mystic Regeneration
Faithful Intervention
Vital Boon
Mantra of Frost
Lightbringer's Gaze
Sunspear Rebirth Signet
Mystic Twister
Mystic Healing

I'll get into the other 4 in a bit, but first an explanation of what I have so far. The first thing that would need to be done before all else is to get the dervish bonded up with as many enchantments that can be maintained on him/her. The ones that I feel will work well are:
Life Attunement
Life Bond
Life Barrier
Balthazar's Spirit
Essence Bond
The bonder would then enchant themself with Balthazar's spirit as well, and then focus on managing their energy. The spirit Ranger would then lay down the 2 spirits, and the Dervish would go out ahead of the rest of the party (being careful not to leave spirit of enchantment range) The dervish would then draw aggro onto themselves, enchanting themself with their own enchantments and going into Mantra of Frost right before engaging. The rest of the team (though not the bonder) would then move forward and begin combat. It is important that the spirit ranger fall back to where the spirits are to recast them so that they are constantly maintained. The main heal for the Dervish would be Dwayna's Kiss, because the number of enchantments being maintained on him/her would yield an incredible amount of HP. The Dervish can also use Mystic Healing/Twister to damage the enemy and heal the team.

So that's the basis of the defensive aspect of this team build. As for how the offensive aspect is run, beyond the obvious notion that every member, perhaps excluding the monks, have Lightbringer's Gaze, I have only one idea, and seek the wisdom of the GameAmp goers to contribute their wisdom.

Energy Denial Necro (N/Me)
Depravity
Reckless Haste
Well of Weariness
Ancestor's Visage
Sympathetic Visage
Lightbringer's Gaze
Awaken the Blood
Sunspear Rebirth Signet

This Necro would specialize in shutting down the energy of all enemies that are currently engaged. For those unfamiliar with Depravity, it has the potential to remove up to 8 energy from the foe and all foes nearby the target each time the target casts a spell for over 15 seconds. This would easily turn the tables against the Margonite enemies, who's use of Famine they would soon regret. Another Ranger with Famine could be added to the team to support this Build in other areas as well.

Well, that's what I have so far. Please, feel free to post your idea's in this thread and together we can figure this out. I would love to see this tested out, but only have a Paragon that has currently beaten Nightfall, but you can bet that will soon change.

RE: Domain of Anguish Team Build

It could definitely work. For the rest, I would say just maybe a nuker or two, maybe another healer just in case, with the necro that adds up to 8 with two nukers. I'd say make sure everyone but the bonder is a secondary mes with mantra of frost. Obviously, the main thing in this area is staying alive first, and dealing damage second. I think you might have the staying alive part, though two monks with dwaynas kiss are better than one, just in case. So that leaves two spots for damage dealers, aside from the e-drain necro. It obviously doesn't have to be nukers, nukers might not even be the best, if they bring skills that cause aggro to scatter.

I've never been to the DoA but maybe have the necro bring Mark of Pain and Barrage rangers and possible EoE? Thats a pretty weak suggestion because of my inexperience there...oh well

Would a Crit Barrager work in place of a Nuker? I don't have my assassin that far into the game yet, I'm just curious. I turned Zenmai (the Assassin Hero) into a Crit Barrager, and she does a pretty bang up job of it.

Also, any decent builds for a Warrior wishing to join the fun??

RE: Domain of Anguish Team Build

Well, barrage rangers would work alright in most of the areas, if you could figure out different strategies to keep your team alive. In one however, there is a 50% chance for attacks to miss, so wouldn't go all that great there.

RE: Domain of Anguish Team Build

Mark of Pain for sure would not work because all physical damage would be converted to fire from Greater Conflageration and then to cold by winter. I do, however, think that Edge of Extintion could have potential. Barrage would work alright in 2 areas, but the other two could present some serious issues. The first being the 50% chance to miss already mentioned, and the second being the area that drains 2 energy for each attack or skill. This area would drain energy for each arrow of barrage, making it extremely difficult to maintain energy when coupled with all of the energy denial enemies there. As for the nukers, I was actually thinking of more of spikers myself, though that may just be because I prefer an air spiking build on my ele. But I would argue that spiking would be a better way to eliminate priority targets without pushing too many enemies close to death and causing them to dish out even more damage with Enraged. And, unfortunatly, I can't see much of a use for a warrior in this build, besides being the bonded tank, though I think that the Dervish could do a better job of it with their superior self healing.

One other addition that I see being useful would be a character with Smiting prayers, most notably the Scourge ________ hexes to damage monks, dervishes, and necros. Other skills could be used however the team sees fit, and the smiter could also use secondary skills to provide more ranger spirits, like the proposed EoE and Famine. Another possibly useful class would be a ritualist to maintain spirits instead of a ranger. The ritualist could also bring along defensive spirits for about a second of increased defense, or offensive spirits to be used to increase damage output, or act as sacrificial lambs if the team needs to run.

And as for anyone who would like to contribute to testing any of this, leave your IGN and I'll get around to giving you guest access to our Guild Hall. Don't worry it will be empty, our glorious guild has 3 active members, one of which only plays on weekends. After there are enough people signed up to throw themselves at the Domain of Anguish, we can organize something.

Brilliant first post, you should have a look at the Guides section and with a little work that would make a great guide (earn yourself some site cred too).

RE: Domain of Anguish Team Build

Thanks to all those who welcomed me to the Forums. I would love to make a guide to this eventually, but want to have the entire team configuration figured out and to have proven it works in many locations of the Domain of Anguish before I make a guide. That's why I'm currently rushing through the Nightfall missions with my Necro.

Now, let's see...
I wouldn't say that the rewards aren't worth it to try any of those areas. I've been to the Underworld and Fissure of Woe, and they are cool areas of the game that are worth exploring just to see them. I think the same will be true of the Domain of Anguish. Plus, you can get Razah there, and I think a Ritualist hero would be amazing.

Yes a Stance Warrior could be the tank, except for the Stygian Veil, where the tank in question would recieve 50 damage with each block, dodge, or evade.
(On a side note, I want to see a warrior use Frenzied Defense in there.)

RE: Domain of Anguish Team Build

Woot! I get to reply. :-)

This is the kind of post that makes me go-yeehaaa. Such an awesome first post. Very commendable of you.

As for the build it looks good but as I have yet to go to the Domain of Anguish, I don;t have a viable critique. At this point it looks like a build that can work.

My biggest tip for areas such as these is to find a way to work off the stress within the mission/quest. When I used to go on 4-man trapper runs in the UW, I always went this one ranger who always broke the ice by asking way off the wall questions. One that comes to mind: "Who all here know that Disco is really not dead?" It made for a more enjoyable run and it does relieve the stress-especially in the elites missions. They are tough enough as it is, just have fun.

Lastly, here's some cred and...

FoW and UW are no-nos for me. I can never find a team, and on my 3 attempts w/heroes I didn't make it past the first agro of 6...(I couldn't agro just 3, the next group over ALWAYS decided to join in). The "entrance fee" to enter both of these domains is what turns me off to it...1k and no chance for me to obtain anything is really annoying.

Domain of Anguish...I'll probably try there since there's apparently no "entrance fee". I'll probably have to run heroes since my warrior will probably still be unable to find a team, but I'm used to trying wacky things with my heros. (Still attempting to Hero/Hench Eternal Grove! :p )

RE: Domain of Anguish Team Build

Ok, I think I have a finalized idea for how the team should go.

There would be:
1 Enchanted Dervish tank
1 Healer monk
1 Bonder monk
1 Depravity Necro
1 Spirit Ranger w/ Greater Conflag and Winter

and the 3 new teammembers would be

2 Nukers (Ele/Me)
These two would be set up almost the same way. The skills they would have in common are Rodgort's Invocation, Liquid Flame, Fire Attunment, LightBringer's Gaze, Rebirth Sig, Arcane Mimicry, Arcane Echo. Then one would have Searing Flames and the other would have Elemental Attunement. Right before battle the two would Arcane Mimicry each other, giving them both Elemental Attunement and Searing Flames for 20 seconds. After that, they simply attune themselves and start casting away, with Rodgort's to start things off with massive damage and burining that last's long enough for a follow up with Searing Flames. Arcane Echo the skill of your fancy, and keep things burning.

1 Divine Judgement (Mo/R)
I like to give the builds I come up with cool names :P
This Monk would have Famine, Edge of Extinction, Scourge Enchantment, Scourge Sacrifice, Scourge Healing, Lightbringer's Gaze, Rebirth, Dryder's Defenses, and an optional slot I guess. The role of this peculiar set up would be to lay down Famine when the enemies don't, to lay down EoE, since I hope no enemy will be above 90% Hp against this build, and to cast the Scourges on whoever deserves them. Scourge Sacrifice will be especially useful in the Stygian Veil against the Stygian Hungers, who use Vamp Bite/Touch and Wallow's Bite/Touch of Agony to break through the normal defense strategy.

So there is my idea for the team build. Now it just needs to be tested. So far there's been Albino Monktress who volunteered to be the Healer, and I think there's also a Ranger who volunteered though he didn't provide much information if he did. Then there's me, I'm getting my Necro there as fast as I can, and Alvaron, who has his Dervish there already and also is getting his Ranger there. So that leaves for sure:

1 Bonder
1 Judgement Monk
2 Nukers

and possibly:
1 Ranger OR 1 Dervish

So sign up! Volunteer! Contact me with your IGN and what times are good for you to try the run. I'll get something organized, talk to all the people involved, and then we'll only have one thing to be concerned with, and that is...

...that my ideal, little, happy world where all the aggro stays on the tank isn't shattered the first thing when we get there...

And just because I have this figured out (and assuming it works) doesn't mean that it should be the only build used. In fact, I'll be angry if this ends up as a cookie cutter build that everyone runs in the Domain of Anguish. I, for one, know that I'm not going to stop with this team and will try and find ways to incorporate at least one of each class in an effective team. I have my work cut out for me don't I?

RE: Domain of Anguish Team Build

I'm sure some of you have seen the latest Scribe. I hope he doesn't give too many tips for beating the area, otherwise this whole thread will have been rather pointless. But it does raise the question of whether or not a team would want to be spiking or nuking the enemies. It would all come down to how long the enemies would be dealing 100% extra damage before they died.

I've also given some thought to the remaining classes that I haven't worked into the build yet. A ritualist could maintain spirits, as I said before. A Mesmer could easily replace the Necro and run a very similar build, or could go Me/Mo and use Domination and Smiting hex removal to benefit the team and damage enemies. If the Mesmer were to play this role, it would replace one of the Elementalists. Warriors and Assassins would have a boring role IF everything goes as planned, but they could act as a guardian for the backline and if something broke aggro off the bonded tank the Warrior or Assassin could try to hold it off while the rest of the back line blasts it with Lightbringer's Gaze (both would probably just want to knock the thing down or disable it in a similar manner, as going one-on-one with the Anguish enemies wouldn't end well). And a Paragon would just do the Paragon thing, though they may need Hex removal for some areas because some of the Necro enemies use anti-shout hexes. The energy benefits of Motivation or "We Shall Return" alone could be very useful to the team.

RE: DofA Team Build. Sign up Now!

Warriors and Assassins rejoice, I know how you would be useful in this build. Taking the place of one of the nukers (the nuker would have to change skills around because Arcane Mimicry would be useless) they would stand in what I'm going to call the second line, where the offensive casters would be, and chase down anything that breaks aggro and KD the snot out of it while everyone else hits it with Lightbringer's Gaze. The builds to be ran would be the following:

Assassin:
-Siphon Strength
-Mark of Instability
-Iron Palm
-Black Lotus Strike
-Blinding Powder
-Twisting Fangs
-Lightbringer's Gaze
-Sunspear Rebirth Signet

Warrior:
-For Great Justice
-Lightbringer Signet
-To the Limit!
-Staggering Blow
-Counter Blow
-Heavy Blow
-Lightbringer's Gaze
-Sunspear Rebirth Signet

Both builds have the potential to knockdown the enemy twice, which should be plenty of time to deal with it. It would be very important for the Warrior to have as high of a Lightbringer rank as possible, because if he/she has it high enough they could drop out To the Limit! for something else, like the deep wound inflicting Crushing Blow.

And... I'm just going to repeat myself. People are needed to help test this build. If you have any characters even close to being able to go to the Domain of Anguish, or are missing a few skills, and are interested in helping, post it here or send me a PM.

Please don't make me just pointlessly bump this thread...

please?

Ok, I beat Nightfall with my Necro last night, so she's ready to go. There is also Alvaron, who can bring his Dervish or Ranger, Albino Monktress as the healer, and Paco Lane as the Bonder. 4 slots left, who wants them?

Space for:
The Ranger or the Dervish Tank
A Nuker
Another Nuker or a Warrior or an Assassin
A Smiting/Famine Monk or a Hex Removing Mesmer

The Mesmer would use:
-Hex Eater Vortex
-Shatter Hex
-Smite Hex
-Backfire
-Energy Burn
-Mind Wrack
-Lightbringer's Gaze
-Rebirth

I'm willing to help anyone who wants to join, whether it be through beating missions or capturing skills.

I'm just going to bump this, even though it bugs me to do so.
Probably just because the other forum I frequent is the BnG forums where contentless thread bumping is looked down upon.

But, I did add a link to the thread in my Signature, so hopefully it will draw attention, even when this isn't on the top of the list.
