been away for ages need help!

hey guys

went to reinstal game and when i found my original discs its totally scratched up. I looked but cant find anywhere where you can download cov main game and also any patches since launch. (as the launcher dl can be abit slow)

pls help cos im dieing to get back into game!

If I understand this correctly, you wish to download the full version of CoV? If you wish to play the game again then you will need to buy another copy to receive new discs. After loading the game again, it will automatically download any patches that you missed.

In case you are unaware: the last time I checked, downloading the full version of a game online without paying was considered pirating, and is illegal. Dark is right, if you wish to start playing again just purchase the game. Next time try to keep your discs in better condition.

its acctually for the 14 day free trial but it is a full version because the 14 day free trial has everything a full version does

Actually you CAN download the Updater (the game) from HERE. Either the EXE file or the ZIP file and run or extract and run the program. This will take a while to patch to be current. But if you do have a game account already, and your disks are fried this is the Official way to fix your problem.

So yes, what luqutis is asking is allowed and legal. Being that this is an Online only game they have to make such repair fixes available. As was stated previously; if you dont have an account this wont do you any good, so its not piracy.

When you purchase a game at a store or download it you purchase a license (CD Key) this Key makes the game yours even if you someday lose the physical Discs, if the option exists to download the game your CD Key will let you do that.

If your account is still active (it can be active when your not playing as long as your paying the monthly fee) you can download everything by going to ncsoft.com entering ID and account number, then download it.

If your account is inactive (closed) but you have the CD Key (even if discs are scratched you should still have it) you can open a new account, enter your CD Key and download the updater.

If you no longer have a CD key then you can purchase one from ncsoft and download the updater.

You can download the game from your account option off the CoH/CoV site. If you go to:

ACCOUNT, then MANAGE, then click on ACCOUNT DETAILS under CoH/CoV info it will take you to a screen that shows your breakdown of your game. This is the same place you can view your Veteran Rewards. Under ACCOUNT, it will show that you have CoH or CoV or both....at the bottom of that info you will see the words: DOWNLOAD GAME CLIENT.

This is where you can get the game and as long as you have reactivated your account or such you should be able to play once you have downloaded all necessary patches.

Here is a link that takes you to the Manage your account screen:

Head from there and you should be good. Now be cautious this will take much longer compared to the CDs. But it should work.

He wasn't being rude. Just blunt and to the point.

The most accurate and complete post I have seen so far is Sapir's and I will QFT it without quoting it simply because I'm awesome like that.

Edit: However his recent use of colorful language makes wonder if he ever got rid of that box of his. Maybe this one is slightly different though seeing as he didn't use purple at all and he was very much to the point without all that on topic randomness that we had come to know and love.

Born please dont take steps toward that road. If you start to take a stance like that it will be the quickest way off the site.

I can understand that alot of times language gets lost when its bound to type faces. Just reading words but not hearing the afflection of the voice can definitely cause people to wonder if you were being mean or just w/e. Just please be a normal, active member of the site. Dont do or say anything that may result to you having to leave the site. We hate seeing members go.

Heh, I didn't say that. I just said his was more accurate and complete in relevancy to the thread. He not only addressed the piracy issue which was starting to tear the thread apart, he explained very clearly and concisely why this kind of workaround exists, gave the direct link straight to the official source(no GUIs required), and he did it all with a flair of color that could be weilded by none other than himself and possibly theJeni. . . But, only if she made Sapir do it for her.

I am sorry though if my favoring of Sapir's post caused you emotional or mental distress of any kind. I assure you it was not my intent to pick favorites. I just wanted to point out that I agree with Sapir completely in this matter and not just because he is the master of teh colors. That was not a typo.

unsure how to proceed as i currently have what appears to be coh installed. The only coh/cov game i have bought is CoV and was part of the pre order bunch so do i need a cov patch type thing or look to download CoV elsewhere?

You have the copy. If you have/had CoV or just downloaded the CoX loader, then CoV is a part of that. It's all going to function under one file, one desktop icon, one game (per say). As long as your serial code is one slated for CoV, you are going to be fine.

I don't have anything really in my folders that say CoV (except for the beta stuff). I started with CoH and then purchased CoV and no new CoV icons appeared.

Simply put, you are ready to game if you have everything loaded. Just log in (and make sure your serial code is correct) and you'll get the option to play both games (if you purchased both previously).

Or as my old football coach would say, \"Get your A$@ in there and play the game like it should be played!\"

downloaded the main file in the list provided by Grifter and have instaled the game and verified all files 100%.

its all coh icons and the first page i see is the coh login screen where my active cov account password and login details etc doesent work.

im confused to say the least why this coh is ment to be the right stuff when i never bought coh tho i do appreaciate alot of the content is shared.

accounts been active 1 week now and still not played lol

Honestly, it should work. The COHUpdater.exe file is what we all have. That being the program that is fired up when you click on the Icon on your desktop of the shortcut in your Start Menu. All the files installed on my hard drive are in the City of Heroes folder in my Program Files folder. City of Heroes and City of Villains do not only 'share' things they are the same. The only difference is what your account log in will unlock of the game since it is online. All of the tilesets, badges, monster bump maps, etc are the same. I know this because while I have City of Heroes and City of Villains, my son only has City of Villains on the other computer in my home network.

But since you are having this problem I would suggest contacting Player Support on the PlayNC website. I have also PM'd the CoV Community Coordinator Cricket for guidance in this problem. I will either post here or PM you as soon as I find out anything. Again if you want faster service you may want to see if PlayNC has a Support phone number that might get you on quicker.

Another option would be to go HERE and log into your account management and click on Account Details under City of Villains. Then click 'Download Game Client' on the page that comes up. This should give you the same files though, but go ahead and give it a shot.

firstly thanks for all your help guys it is appreaciated and quite refreshing coming from other mmos where all you get is flames if u ask for help.

sadly tho im still cant login. Im reluctant to download the full game again as this took nearly 2 days to do and then verify 100% also as apparently i have the correct files already!?

Jus sent a ticket to support to see what they say.

If i did have the 2 games would i get the option to choose between coh and cov in the login screen and then type in username/password etc or am i ment to be able to login to my cov account from the coh login screen no probs.

I know im asking the same questions again im jus generally baffled (and after a week gettin semi aggrevated) by this process and not sure how to proceed as it seems im jus going in circles.

hopefully the ticket will help...

edit: jus checked the size of my instaled/verified game and its says 2.32GB does this sound the right size?

Now, everything is going to look like CoH when you first log in from the updater. You'll see Statesman's mug even on the id/password screen. Now, after you select the server that you want to play on, that's when you'll start seeing more game specific screens. If you choose CoV, the background will start to change to the Red/Black theme. If you choose CoH, the bacground will start to change to the Blue/Black theme.

Again, like Sapir stated, contacting support should get you some answers on why your password is not working. The only other thing I can think of is...did you actually Register on the PlayNC site prior to trying to log into the game? If you did not do so, then I recommend doing that real quick, then going back to log in. If your account is not set up in their system, you don't have a id/password that will be valid. Again, that's the only thing I can think of as to why you can't log into the game.

If you have already Registered under PlayNC.com, then go check to see if you actually added the CoX to your account. This step allows the game to be playable by you (registering your code).

I know you've probably already done this, however, I'm just trying to retrace steps to make sure some important things haven't been forgotten.

jus thougth id update cos im bored and semi vexed.

first response from the tech guys was to change my password.. which i did and i still cant login. On my account screen at plaync its says the game i have is cov europe but i thought it funny that the password change screen said resetting my coh password.

i dunno lol weekend here ill try next week to resolve this but at this point im tempted to go out and buy a new copy of cov, seems alot less stressful :(
