Eragon

Hey,
Just wondering how much of the community has read the inheritance series.
Who's looking forward to the film?

RE: Eragon

I'm sort of looking forward to it, but I'm worried that it won't be true to the book... Unfortunately, it'll probably have too much emphasis on dragon riding while ignoring all of the problems with riding around on a giant winged lizard. And with current trends, the movie will probably also involve overly-long battle scenes involving thousands of computer-animated creatures just to show off the power of computer animation.

I'll still probably go see it, but it unfortunately probably won't be as good as the book.

I see what you mean, me and my friend were also peeved that they gave Galbotorix a character, wheras in the book he was mysterious and fearsome but never seen.

RE: Eragon

Didn't read the book, but from what I've seen it seems like an ok movie. The whole dragon riding seems a bit too much emphasized, but they may just put in a whole lot of dragons in the trailer because they think the movie will sell better that way.

RE: Eragon

I've read the books 4 or 5 times each, and just from seeing the trailers, I can already tell that the movie isn't going to be much like the book. I'll still see it eventually, but not until after the final book is released.

By the way, does anyone know if the movie is both Eragon and Eldest or just Eragon? I'm thinking just Eragon, but I wanna make sure.

RE: Eragon

I myself love fantasy and I love dragons even more (I was wanting to have a dragon cake topper but my husband wouldn't let me) but they have a bad habit of making movies too wordy. In a book that is fine, but kills a movie. I love the Lord of the Rings movies but I don't think I've watch any of them since they where theaters. I get bored and wander off to play Guild Wars. I for one hope they made the plot the same but NOT word for word.

RE: Eragon

Sorry last post didnt show my reply. Here it is:

Its suppose to just be eragon. I have also read the book and it makes me mad, that it does not stay true to what the book is. The 3 major problems are 1: Eragon was 15 going on 16 in the book, in the movie he is 18. 2: Arya (the elf) is brunette, and looks like she is in alot of the movie. 3: Galbadorix is shown. Now i love Jon Malcovich, but Galbadorix is a mystery in the book. Well I will be doing a screening of the movie as soon as it arrives so I will have to get back to all of you what I thought about it.

Rumours are that the next book will be called 'Empire', because it fit's in with the 6 letter word, beginning with 'E' title.
Eragon
Eldest
Empire

Guys im really sorry to say this, I just came back from watching the movie, and you know the promo....THAT is the movie. By that i mean those parts are the only parts worht watching, the 2-3 mins of the promo, what a waste of time. They have completely ommitted sooo many characters, they have twisted the storyline, AND well, the and is just that its horrible *sigh*

RE: Eragon

Lets face the fact, we would all like the movie to include everything from the book, but then you would have to be able to set aside about 7 hours to go see a film like the sometimes do in France. Start in midafternoon, watch, at entermission you have a nice dinner, and then go back for the rest of the film. Not a bad idea but too many people could not schedule that into there live. Therefore we are given a movie, enjoy the movie they give us because no matter what it will never come as close to perfectness as the books do. I believe that holds true for all movies based on books.

I'll be going to see that, book was great. Unfortuantely, does not appear that they followed the details from the book very much as far as details.

RE: Eragon

I've read Eragon and Eldest 10 times each and I still read them so of course when I heard the movie was coming out I was thrilled but when I saw the trailer when I went to see Casino Royale there was:

1 tons of CGI
2 Is it just me or does Saphira have feathers?
3 As everybody said, Galbatorix was a mysterious figure in the first two books and having him as a character kind of spoils the mood
4 The Lord of the Rings had some twists but they didn't really change around the plot so much except for cutting out the last part with the Hobbits but it looks like Saphira learns how to breathe fire before Farthen Dur, etc.

See thats just it, ive NEVER read the books, (the friend i went with had) but even I left the cenima feeling empty. It just is not a good movie besides the obvious additions/deductions from the story. Also, eragorn seems to take up the mantle of leadership really REALLY well....meh...how unrealistic, one night hes crying about how hes a farm boy, and the next morning...well....he's become a leader and he seems to not mind anymore :S

For you people who have read the books, DONT watch this movie, you will spoil the book's im telling you. Rachel Weisz as the sound of saphira's not bad, but they could have used someone with a more mature voice. She just sounds...horny... (forgive me for this but its the truth) But after all this you still want to watch the movie hehe, well, good luck.

My last reply got lost somewhere...

Where did you get to see this 2 days before the release?? I'm really curious. I know it's possible in certain circumstances.

As for me, I'll probably go watch it this weekend if my wife's feeling ok.

I gotta say i love fantasy and dragons aswell.
I agree bout Narnia, i love the images that C.S lewis conjurs in your mind, tho the film was pretty good, i am starting to get annoyed with massive battle scenes in movies...

Edit: changed my mind, if the movie isn't as good as the books i'd perfer to see that first so if it is a let down it won't be as much of one
