Marvel: Ultimate Alliance

Has anyone played this game yet for the PS2? I was wondering if I should get it for my son. I have not had a chance to play it yet and wondered what it was like.

Thanks in advance for the reviews...

My PS2 is still covered in dust since I got my computer, but to help you with your gift buying decision here is the review from X-Play starring Adam Sessler (dorkie but funny) & Morgan Webb (Hottie but um...Hot). The review was done for the Xbox platform but the game play & story line should be the same. You can watch the video review as well. So here you go...*Clicky Click*

RE: Marvel: Ultimate Alliance

I can't say much about the PS2 version but I picked this game up for my PC (bargain bin) based on the unexpected fun I had playing Xmen Legends 2: Rise of Apocalypse!

(Keep in mind that I'm talking about the PC version...)

So far the game has been a blast for me. I've been playing it for 6 to 7 hours and I'm consistently amazed at how beautifullly detailed and rendered the game is. I'm also a long time Marvel comic book fan so the somewhat hokey plot line is actually pretty cool to me. I guess I find it fun playing with characters against villians that have been around for as long as I can remember.

So, I'm not at all an RPG fan (I believe that is what this is) but I'm a Marvel fan (a bit bias) and I enjoyed Xmen Legends 2 and I'm enjoying Ultimate Alliance so far.

Oops. Sorry about the last mis-reply.

You pose a very good question. Since I've been playing CoH and CoV since their inceptions, I can't imagine I totally giving them up no matter how much of a Marvel fan I am. I will however be objective and play both for a few years and then decide. ;-)

I personally think there is room for 2 excellent comic book genre based MMORPG. Well...I personally think CoH is excellent...we'll have to see about Marvel's MMORPG.

Aye its stil unclear if we play as marvel toons or if we make our own, or even get a choice (might get a tad borin if theres 100 wolverines or hulks running around) either way im loyal to CoH/CoV and all their groovey faction works ect (however i still feel that they are missing out on some groovey powersets such as the ability to strech and use ranged melee? or cloning powers?) However twill be close...

RE: Marvel: Ultimate Alliance

Personally, I think it would be kinda dumb if they let you play as a pre-existing, Marvel hero. There'd be like...no variety, for both powers and looks.
Like whoever it was that said it, you know you'd see about 3000 Wolverines, Human Torches, and Spider-Men...even if you did get to choose different costumes for them the gameplay dynamics themselves would get pretty stale after a while. Plus it wouldn't make sense to name your character.

Now, if you got to choose your own powers based on the Marvel universe, then that would be something worth my time.

Still though, I'd rather explore a whole new world with fresh stories to discover and whatnot then play in a pre-existing world with characters I've known forever. I just wouldn't get the same feeling of "me-ness" playing in the Marvel Universe since I've known it for so long, as I do when I play MMOs based on nothing but themselves. It gives me more of a feeling that I'm doing it instead of a character, if that makes sense to anyone, which is partly why I love MMOs so much to begin with.

On topic though, my don (like a residence supervisor [I'm in University]) bought a Wii and among other games, Marvel Ultimate Alliance for it. I've had limited opportunities on the game, and I'd probably prefer it without having to do the funky motions and stuff, but it was still a pretty fun game. Plus I watch two friends of mine play it since they've gotten fairly far, and at that stage of the game especially things look so much fun. From what I hear also, if you liked X-Men Legends then you'll love this.

RE: Marvel: Ultimate Alliance

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Cryptic Studios working on this Marvel Online Universe? If so, it has to be at least decent based on the amazing job they've done with CoH and CoV. I've tried 6 or 7 other MMORPG and CoH easily the best IMHO.

However, as loyal as I am to CoH, the thought of Task Force missions ending with a badass showdowns against say Magneto or Doom or the Hulk (the ULTIMATE TANKER) is very intriging.

If I had to guess, you'll probably won't get to be any of the Marvel characters but you'll certainly get to interact with them. Of course that is just a guess.

RE: Marvel: Ultimate Alliance

i have Marvel for the 360, the game is great.it's worth getting although i did feel a little cheated spending $20 more for the 360 version when the regualar XBOX one run just as good. the add Moon Knight and Colossus on 360. loading time will be abit slower, but still worth the coin.
to answer another question in this chain... yes Cryptic will be working on an MMO for Marvel.

RE: Marvel: Ultimate Alliance

Listen I have played both and I have this to say. If you want to have your own personalize hero or mutant(cough, cough) choose City of Heroes/ Villian.(Marvel Please don't sue me for using mutant) But if you want preset favors that you can some what manipulate then go with the Marvel. Either way you go you can lose.

Didn't know the Marvel MMORPG was out or at least being tested! If you have any more info (like a website) on the details, please pass them on. Like I stated earlier, I'm loyal to CoX but I could definitely see myself having toons in both worlds.

RE: Marvel: Ultimate Alliance

this is a little off-topic, but i really want to see a feature on CoH like mixing powersets around. like maybe having a martial arts/ice manipulation, or invulnerability/illusion tanktroller. whatever. anyways, my friend has the pc version of MUA and he loves it. i am thinking about getting it cuz it sounds cool.
