GW Love

on several cases I have noticed people dating in GW... i'm not talking about married couples who are playing together, but the random guy in LA saying "Need a boy/girlfriend" and vice-versa. so, have you seen any of this, and what do you think of this?

I have not seen any of this, but I think it is very strange. First, there is no way a relationship like that could work, because they will almost definitely live nowhere near each other. Again, I haven't noticed it, but if I do, I will investigate what exactly is meant by "need a boyfriend/girlfriend."

Well I have seen people meet in a game and get to know one another and end up marrying. I had a friend from Germany and a friend from Japan that meet on Diablo and got to know one another over the years and by the time Diablo 2 came out they were married, but cases like those are rare I'm sure. That and they didn't go into the game looking for someone just to know each other well and visited one another and feelings grew. But in the case of just spamming looking for a girlfriend/boyfriend kind of sounds like pervs.

I'm neither here nor there but everywhere. I am who I am and nothing more but yet I'm nothing less than what I strive to be.

Not to mention pathetic. Try to make a lucky shot at in RL because anything over GW where you can't see each other for real just won't work i s'pose.

hmm.. meeting gf/bf in game now days is becoming more frequent.

I have several friends who have met on the net and online games. then met in real life and got married. The internet just creates a new way to meet people you would not normally have contact with.

It is very hard because you don't have that contact to create a connection but connection none the less. :) good luck with people who do get into a relationships online..

Spamming things like that is totally not the way to go about getting GW booty. Like honestly you have to have just as much "game" in game as you do outside of the game. :P

Plus the fact that people will pretend to be the opposite sex to screw you over and make you fee llike a moron.

I think it's more or less people being bored and looking for something to do. It's kind of like the kid that pees his pants on purpose to get attention.

I'd just disregard it. Or have fun with it either one :D

Yeah, this used to happen quite a lot in pre-searing, still kinda does, i have some mates who have a bf/gf in gw, some kinda just do it for the sake of it while others take it seriously. oh, and oilball, that animation in your signature rules, made me laugh xD

I recently met a couple in RL who are obviously very happy together, when I asked how they met to my surprise they said playing GW, they were seperated by hundreds of miles when they first started to get to know each other and now live together.

It's obviously not how you meet it's how you connect when you do. The internet is just another way of getting to know and sometimes getting to meet different people. If meeting that special someone happens via game playing then I for one am not going to knock it, it's good to see two people happy together however they met.

It really isn't any different than meeting through an online chat or other website. I do have a friend that met his wife that way several years back. So I could work.

That being said, I also agree that people spamming it are most likely kids and if they do find a GF/BF it will never amount to anything.

I did have two guild members start "dating". They lived 2.5 hours apart and met in real life once. It's over now, one of them moved on and is now intrested in a different guildie.

On a similar note, once I was asked to cyber with someone. All of my characters are female and he assumed I was too. He got rather mad when I said "One problem, I'm a male.".

Anyways, he was from UK, she was from Germany, and about 2 months ago she moved and lives with him still, call it sad, but sometimes i get the feeling its easier for some to call it sad, rather then sobbing that they are all alone.

I doubt it was actually them, but you never know ^^
World's a small place at times.

Oh, and its the 21st century, Internet dominates most of the world now, online dating, chatting, personal information, all that stuff is growing at an explosive rate, no wonder these things start to happen.
They do get out, but the Pub is soooo old now, its the information age :P

Most of us able bodied folk are able to do exactly the same thing. You seem to be saying that anyone who met via the net is desperate, I can assure you the people I've met are certainly not desperate and have more than adequate social skills in RL. It's just the way it happened, these are nice people and I dont think you have the right to judge how they met as desperate, it's simply not the case.

Nope not the same couple I was referring to. I wonder how many couple have met playing GW? I honestly dont think you can use GW as an intentional dating service, from what I've seen relationships, as in Real Life, just tend to happen rather than being the aim from the outset.

2. Try for someone in real life...Last time I checked, this was GW, not eharmony.com

Hehe, just before reading this post, I was selling some stuff in Kaineng, when all of a sudden, someone started to spam "looking for a yummy mummy to play with" in local chat.... >_> I think that pretty much everyone can notice that that is definitely not the way to meet a partner over the Internet. ;-)

I don't see whats wrong with meeting people online...I mean they are still people after all. This is just another way to communicate. Hell I think a date on guild wars would be much more fun than a date in real life. Whoopdedoo we get to go to a play together! Whoopdedoo we get to kill a dragon together!

actually it all depends on the commitment your willing to make. In my school, a 7th grader met a girl from another state on runescape and they ended up dating. I think its weird, bu different people make the world go around

I know two couples (1 is the couple geek is referring to) who happen to have met each other in GW and are happy and prospering in RL as well.

Whats wrong with meeting someone in a slightly different way that people deem necessary? To be honest; the two couples i know have more respect for each other as it should be (as in; i love the person for whom he/she is) then any other couple i know in RL. They respect each other for who they are; not for their looks, clothing, age or whatever.

Is it so wring to meet someone in a game? I think not. They are happy together and have future plans together. I think people who meet in RL can learn something from that.

tbh; the best and most respectful relationships i have witnessed came from online meeting and not from RL. Might sound strange; but when it comes to meeting each other in RL; it comes to physical attraction; while the thing that matters most actually is the mental attraction between people that determines if they can live happily ever after.
