RE: Fire Blasters

I would say, unlikely. Blasters are more suited to wiping out large mobs of baddies quickly. When the baddies are orange, red and purple, that's not very easy.

You want things that you're going to hit most of the time. The second setting on the difficulty thingy is usually good. The +0/+1 baddies in big groups. You'll also get a boss now and then.

RE: Fire Blasters

I solo my fire blaster on invincible sometimes - when I get a pure glowie mission.

For anything else, you're just wasting a whole lot of time. You CAN clear an entire mission on invincible, but you're going to have to pull the bad guys one at a time.

As Ron says, fire blasters are for killing quickly. I would even go so far as to say they are best suited for wiping out mass quantities of bad guys lower level than them. If you want to rake in the XP, try teaming with a tank a level or two below you and letting him herd his missions. Blue and green mobs add up to a ton of XP if you can wipe out dozens at a time.

RE: Fire Blasters

Thanks guys, im just going to say you can't solo with fire blasters. I usually just take an emp healer and do invincible missions, which arent that hard , it's easy to kill everyone when you have a healer with you. I have a level 23 Fire/Fire blaster, and as long as you have aim, reds and purps ( including bosses) go down very quick, and everything below that is super easy to kill, so I guess thats as close to soloing im going to get.
!thanks!

No way. Had a ton of trouble doing anything solo in the upper 30s and 40s. Had a serious tendency to pull multipe baddies. I had two single holds in the later period, but I still managed to accrue a lot of debt. More than the added XP was worth I assure you. Like the others previously stated, Fire Blaster = Mass and quick damage on herded bad guys. I'd like to see someone try and solo one though.

RE: Fire Blasters

I don't have any problem running my Fire Blaster solo depending upon the mission.

It is true that for ALL Blasters, solo'ing through the 40's can be tough and even impossible for some of the missions.

Solo on invincible.......
Only if you want the debt badges......
I find that I can run on rugged and survive most standard missions with a boss or two.

First, you have to learn how to properly pull.......
Second, you have to be prepared to get the whole mob anyhow.....

My Fire Blaster is Fire/Energy and having the concealment pool is almost a must for the solo player. It doesn't take me long to figure out I've pulled too much. Phase Shift, run like hell, and regroup. With any luck, I'll have dropped a couple of the mob to make the next attempt easier.

Granted, this is Blaster 101 I'm quoting here but pulling is an art form. First off, Blazing Bolt is not a very good pulling tool. Because of the high damage, you will most likely pull more than you want. Try using your single target blasts to peel mobs off. I still Pull with Blazing Bolt, but on Heroic or Rugged I can manage the mobs so I'm looking to drop one enemy quick to reduce the incoming DPS.

Things to remember: An enemy with 1% health still does 100% damage. The key to solo'ing a Blaster is the reduction of mob size as fast as possible. So, even though you are Fire, you should still focus on one enemy at a time, you simply have the benifit of hitting more than one. Fire's single target attacks are not to be underestimated(I do not have Flares on this character. I dropped it for more important powers.)

Although Leuts and Bosses do a lot of damage in comparison to minions, the minions usually are doing more damage to you because of their numbers. REDUCE THE MOB SIZE AS FAST AS POSSIBLE! Kill the minions quick, then find the biggest threat.

Then we get to the powers in Fire that everyone blows off. All of the Blaster sets have crowd control, but years of guides instructing people how to maximize their overall damage output has made them team dependent.

Rain....... Of....... Fire.........

Nothing slows down incoming DPS like a bunch of idiots running around trying to get out of your Rain of Fire power. Most people skip it for more high DPS attacks or support powers but for the solo Fire Blaster this power is a must have. This is an awesome incoming DPS reducer and crowd control device. If you want to be able to solo, you need to build the power set appropriately.

When I'm solo I also usually put a Melee attack on Auto and manually work Hasten. When I team I switch that around(sometimes). The perk to that is quick, and usually high damage for the first enemy that gets too close. As I'm blasting at everything in sight, I auto target the closest enemy once the mob I'm on drops, that's usually the enemy that decided to come into melee with you. Wham Bam down they go, or they are crippled with the attack so the next one simply drops them.

In my case I'm /Energy so I also get a bit of a knockback or stun, but if you are /Fire then you just have to rely on the high DPS associated with the Blaster melee attacks. In the early stages it was Power Push, but after the 30's I picked up Bone Smasher. A very sweet melee attack to leave on Auto. Whites and yellows usually do not survive it.

Flight: melee mobs are your worst enemy. If they can't get to you, then they have to use a lesser ranged attack. I still think that the flight movement pool is one of the Blaster sets best defenses.

Now if there is an AV or an Elite Boss in the mish(Are we getting EB's in CoH yet? I've been running mostly Villains lately.) then I need a team. But to be honest, I've only soloe'd one AV ever. And that was the lame Nemesis AV. I took him down with a Fire/Kin Controller before they got nerfed. So most likely, you can solo almost anything that everyone else can if you want to progress your mission lines.

You can solo with a Blaster in the 40's. There are a lot of other techniques for doing this that other people use. It's just not easy.

aaaahhh don't let them scare You!!

I have a lvl 50 fire/fire Force mastery.

I solo on Invincible all the time... Infact I even Farm on my fire/fire with just my self!...

Now you do have to understand this ability changes from each given situation but it always can be done!.

All you have to do is play it smart. Snipe out bosses first I like to hit them with blaze bult or fire cage mixed with AIM+Build up you can but a good dent in them. Fire/fire has lots of Aoes so you can still target the Boss and lay damage on the others on the mob all at the same time. But before you go all HeMan on them you have to have your priority's straight. If your soloing the mobs will not be all that big even on invincible So pick your target wisely. Being solo your going to get all the agro so chose who will hurt you the most when you attract them. The most important thing about a blaster is his ability to blast. Take that away and hes nothing. So the biggest threat is the guy who can take that ability away. Say the guys with pisconic damage or the trap setters. They should be the next target. If you get lucky the Boss will be a stalker so if you shoot him or snipe him he has to run to you to attack you. This is Y I use hold first on them some times. That way you can set it then change targets to the guy who is debuffing you or trying to hold you. Once you gain access to hot feet and burn. You can use those for when the boss actually get to you they will most likely turn and run to get out of it. I have found that Burn altho is not really a damage power has great acc so for those bosses that have good elud you can use that to take them down a peg or 2 mixed with hot feet and build up you can but some damage on them and fast. As well as anyone ells caught in it. Also never hesitate to pop a purp or a green when needed. They exist to help you. They are your friend.

So yea Soloing with a Fire/Fire is more then possible I do it all the time. It even gets easier when you get your EPICs.

For all you out there calling me a lier. My advice is to head to PVP and you will learn how to use your toon and adapt him to situations you never thought possible.

[this post is with exception of all AV missions, and maham missions]

RE: Fire Blasters

Only reason I see for running on that setting is to grab as much XP as possible and level as fast as you can, missing the opportunity to learn how to play your fire blaster solo as all you will tend to do is faceplant and eat dirt and watch as by level 25 you have all the debt badges and damage taken ones.

It is possible - anything is possible, but I guess all it takes is a bit of gaming knowledge (slotting, pulling, knowing when to get the hell outta dodge), and a whole lot of luck.

Most of the missions are designed for team work so find a good set of players, team with em, try it out, see what happens.

Whatever works for you - try it. At least you'll be having fun!

RE: Fire Blasters

I would have to agree with the latter responses about the ability of soloing a blaster on invisible. A lot of good strategies have been shared so I'll try not to repeat anything...

First off, to better minimize damage taken, it is critical to not only use range to your advantage, but line of sight. In terms of line of site, by using corners and doorways you can hit baddies with your aoes without them getting a shot on you, plus a lot of times they'll bottleneck there and rely on a ranged attack.

Also, Hover imho is a fire blaster's best friend. With Rain of Fire being the only crowd control type power in the primary set, one would have to rely on Hover or a control type power in the secondary to keep baddies out of melee range.

A rule of thumb I try to follow as much as possible with my fire blasters in particular is, "if I'm stunned, I fall." Break-frees are just as important than Greens. On that note, I try to take out the mezzers first. Another thought on the stun rule, because Flairs and Fire Breath root one for a few seconds, it can really place you in a challenging position it not properly used.

As with most of my blasters, Aid Self has become a choice power. I hated having to select Aid Other as a prerequisite, but it does keep you in and/or gets you back in there in a hurry. You may even be able to get a healing badge out of it.

And last but not least, care must be taken with running a fire blaster on invincible. Speaking of running, be mindful of the flight or fight rule. Many times when you return from a retreat you can snipe each opponent individually without aggro'n the entire gang.

RE: Fire Blasters

As a side note, you might consider using a product such as Hero Stats, which will tell you how much experience you're getting per minute. Try running on different settings from Heroic to Invincible to see which one will give you the most bang for your buck. I'm guessing that one step above Heroic is going to be a good place to be. The baddies are still going to be all white and yellow minions (with some yellow and orange lieutenants). You'll get a boss at the end of appropriate missions which will normally be the same level as you (orange) or rarely it will be +1 to you (red).

Give it a test and see how it works out for you.

RE: Fire Blasters

I would have to agree with Thundar on rain of fire. I can't tell you how many people have told me it's worthless and respec it out. But it can be very useful. And this is especially so on soloists. When you do have that mob thats gonna kill ya, you can drop rain of fire and they all forget about you and scatter. If you are surrounded drop it right at your feet. It'll give you a moment to pop a couple of respites and return fire while they run away. Also if you have an ice blaster to team with and you do something like Frostfire try rain of fire and ice storm at the same time in those little rooms. The slowing of ice storm and damage from both and the whole room just dies. It's fun.

Also, I have found that if you three slot hover and swift with flies hover is very useful. I also agree that flight is a blasters best friend. When you get that annoying defeat 15 Igneous in gulch theres nothing like sniping from out of their range above them and getting it done solo. With three slots with swift and hover its almost as fast as fly at lower levels. And you have the defense buff with it.
