At first when they said $5 per account, I thought it was a great deal. Then we find out you can only have one character per account. Ouch!
The beta forums are overflowing with hate messages since the devs have come out and made a firm stance about charging $5 per character. I think that's a huge mistake. If half the players leave, there will be no community for this game and it will die.
What do you guys think?

The game is a free download. The $5 per character is fair, considering most people won't even pay the $5...it isn't required to play the game.
The $5 is for bonus stuff, like better potions/gear and bank access. That and priority in line on the server.
Overall, it's a fine stance to take with a free game. Some people are just misinterpreting what this all means.
You do NOT have to pay the $5/month...it's cool when you decide to.

Paying for membership gets you:
-Yellow, Purple, Rainbow items are usable
-Huge Bank for extra storage
-Better & Stackable Potions
-Access to HDoL (Most fun I've had during beta test was in here)
-King Coins for better equipment
-Priority access to servers
-and more...
I don't see too many people playing this game for long for free. Maybe one character to the end of the free areas, but the real replayability is through collecting good equipment and the HDoL.
If you are a person that likes to play a variety of characters (one from each class) and switch between them every few play sessions, $5 per character is rough.

That really disappoints me. I really love a good alt. I'm sure there will be plenty of cheap skates who only play on free characters though.

Well, I'd wager that it's all on one server anyways...so not too much maintainance there. That will keep cost down. Less need for updates, since only one server...more cost cuts.
I'd like to see if they add a character slot purchase program, a la Guild Wars. that would make it a LOT more viable.
Currently, however, I will be paying the $5/month fee.

Well I haven't even been able to get the opportunity to play the game yet. From what I just read 5/pc doesn't seem to horrible. With them talking about it being a casual game and hardcore game you will get the freeloaders of the free games, but then again you will get the hardcore educated people as well. So in all it sounds good, but only time will tell with these things.
