What aspect of the MMORPG genre appeals to you the most?

Is it crafting? Is it power levelling? Is it the social atmosphere? Is it something else? Lemme know!

While I don't necessary like crafting the items myself, I like getting cool new armor and weapons and stuff! Similarly I like getting new types of spells/attacks/powers as I level up.

The multiplayer aspect of the games probably appeal to me the least. I've been on enough bad teams and encountered enough griefing and other annoyances caused by other players, and recognizing that the majority of them are children (mentally if not also physically), I would openly weep for the future if I did not have the counterexample set by the good people in the MMO Radio community to restore my faith.

I love bein able to solo in a game. I work odd hours kinda 2nd/3rd shift. So its really hard for me a find a regular group. I love crafting if it is helpful and dont cost a arm and a leg to do. So far I say World of Warcraft is doin a fine job of it. Although I have been forced to miss some Elite missions I still get a chance to do a few.

Re: What aspect of the MMORPG genre appeals to you the most?

Its all about the loot :) Dont pretend you dont want that Vanquishing Sword Of Mongbat Slapage, or that Dagger Of Ridicously Painful Funnel Web Juice with a side bonus of slow agonizing death? You cant tell me you dont want those things? :)

Id have to say for me its the never ending quest for the best loot to outfit my characters with, its what drives me far more than leveling, yet you almost always need to level in order to get the best loot. You need to be higher level in order to raid, enter dungeons, and take down dynamic bosses in most instances. The two go hand in hand

I have to say though that i like to take a break now and then in participate in more relaxing pastimes like fishing or crafting some armour. I use to be a mad crafter in UO but the last couple years its all been about the loot.

In terms of actual RP, once again thats been on the backburner with more recent titles, they just dont seem to lend themselves too well to RP, and there is still that perception amongst a good majority of players that RP'ing is taking the word "geek" to the extreme, when really rp'ing has the most potential to maximise any gamers enjoyment. Loot has a finite level (maybe a level cap) until they add the next batch of loot, leveling has a finite level until they add those next 20 levels in the next expansion. Crafting has a finite level, and most of the time a fairly limited number of options. In fact all those things are limited by strict specifications dictated by the design team.

Roleplaying is created by the players making up there own scenarios, it can be repeated almost endlessly, its a terrific way to meet people, and its tremoundous fun. RP'ing as a concept needs to be promoted more heavily in all these games with tuturials, classes, and promotion on websites. Its a lost art.

I did try to kick of a RP guild in AO, but apart from some minor successes it flopped. Im pretty average at RP myself, but ive experienced enough of it too know that its the holy grail of playing....at least i think so.

Funnily enough, if it was too sit down and write down all the things i remember about playing MMO's, id say nearly all of them would be related to people. RP'ing with people, exceptional groups ive had with people, that bizarre cyber i had with a female Dwarf in L2...

....errm ive said too much, literally :)

Social atmosphere 100% :)

people LOVe the PVP servers on WOW so much that they go: "damn, that guy owned me. I'm going to go level up and pass him and get my friends to help". The PKing was so rampant and unbalanced that people actually play to fight back, it's very impressive and cool about the community :P
