| What can you tell me about Guild Wars... |

Ok, so I've been playing this game for about 2 years now, and it's the only MMO I've ever tried, so I've been THINKING about trying something else. Well, Guild Wars has caught my eye.
It seems like it would run smoother than COH, and it being free to play is nice to. I'm just wondering if any of you have ever played it before and what you thought of it.
I know it's free every month, but they get money out of you by making you buy expansions to the game, right? How often do these come out, and just how critical to the game are they?
Also, anyone know a way I can get a free demo? I've tried a few other games with thier demos (WoW, Star Wars MMO, that weird Sci-Fi elf MMO...) and not really liked them, I keep coming back to CoH, but I do always enjoy giving them a shot...

i have had guild wars for about a year now, and its great. the fighting syle is a bit different though, you are constantly shooting/slashing/hitting with your little staff or whatever in between spells. and there are like tons of spells. you have a proffession, either mesmer (mind control, illusions, energy transfers), elementalist (blast fire, control ice, hurl lightning, and make earthquakes, but in like 150 awesome separate skills), necromancer (life drains, make zombies from corpses, etc), warrior (classic guy with a sword, axe and hammer), ranger (bow skills, animal charming/get a cougar pet, traps), or a monk (heals, protection prayers, smiting prayers). at least, thats all in Guild Wars Prophecies, the original one. thats the only one i have as of right now. after you do some quests, you choose a secondary profession. you get all of the same skills unlocked as someone with it as their primary proff, but you lose an attribute set.

Ok, 1st you should check out this thread on our GW site. There are a couple of really good detailed posts.
As for the expansions... you don't NEED them, but you will complete the game. Once you do this, there isn't much else to do than start another character or PvP. The expansions are huge from what I have heard (I personally have not played any other than the origional GW). They are seeming to come out about twice a year now. But if you are a casual player, it will take you longer than 6 months to do everything in one of them. So you won't have to buy them unless you want to.
Also the expansions release new classes you can play. I think that both of the ones releases so far have had 2 new ones open up with each one.
I did try to find a free trial for you, and came up empty handed. You may want to try posting our our GW site (they are really great over there), and see if anyone can direct you in the right direction for one.

Thank you very much everyone! I found your posts informative, and I read that link Jeni and it was insightful as well. I still have a couple questions that I wasn't able to find the answers to on the GW main site and though maybe you guys would know.
1. More on the expansions - Can you skip getting the main game and just get one of the expansions? Is it like CoV, where you DON'T have to have CoH to get it?
- If so, which one have the best looking armors and weapons, I love looking good in CoH, so I want some nice gear to wear in GW if I try it.
2. I know GW doesn't have the character customizability that CoH does, but I hear it actually runs a lot smoother. Is this true? Is it true with ALL the expansions?
3. Lastly, and I admit it is a kinda of odd question... but is there a heavy amount of demonic/polythestic (multi-gods) stuff in this game? I'm a Christian and too much of that stuff just makes me feel unconfortable. CoH and CoV are great, and there's virtually NONE of that in it them. Are the two games comparable on that level? I know there are several different gods in the game, but how much does that actually play into the game?

You can have the main game and not have expansions to play. I have the main game (won it..woohoo) but none of the expansion. You just cant get to the extra content. They do add updates for the game but expansion add large amounts of content.

In the cities (as far as I can see) its touchy lag but the environments you do mission in is perfect. Someone may of already said this but the cities are like all of Paragon City/Rogue Isles and the inbetween zones are like missions. The are only for you and no one else (expect your team). So yeah depending where you are things runs pretty smooth.

Definitely cant help you on this. Not sure. And may I add that is a strange questions from a man named Brimstone and a hero with horns. I kid...haha...I still dont know that answer.

Now I will go and give you a blunt answer of check Guild Wars Main site for a downloadable client. Ask around guildwars.gameamp.com if you want to know for sure, but I would check out that site there first.

1. You can just get one of the expansions. You don't need any of them to play any of them. So if you wanted just one, you can pick which ever one you wanted. As for armor and what not, check out the armor page that we have over there. Our wonderful GW staff has pictures of every single piece of armor in game, so you decide which one you like more.
2. I'm not sure by what you mean by "more smoothly". Creating a character is a lot quicker in GW than CoH, you really don't get to many choices. But in the game you can create your own look w/ different armors, and you can even dye your armor to be that much more different.
3. I don't think there is a very heavy stress on the "gods" in the game. You do "win their favor" in PvP battles. And if your side has favor, you can get to a special area in the game (special and very dangerous), and you can also get "buffs" from the statues of the gods. But they don't really play a huge role in the game (in my opinion of course).
And as for the download link you found. That seems to be the instructions on how to get your free trial started. I don't see anywhere on there that they are offering a trial key though.

GW is a gr8 game to play, been playing for 16 months now.
About the gods question, There isnt much talk of the gods in ch1 and ch2 but in ch3 the gods are involved in the storyline quite a bit. All in all its a gr8 game inculding the pve and pvp aspects. I would reccomend this game for people looking for new MMO's.
If you are gona buy the game, buy the original 1st.

I just got Nightfall **cough...30% off at Gamestop..cough** and I got my buddy into it too! Sweet graphics, check that, outstanding graphics. The character creation is not as diverse as CoX but when you see the female Necromancer you'll forget ALL about that.
You don't need each game to play the other, but each game has their own unique builds (like NF has Dervish and Paragon) The combat engine is completley different and the skills are limited to only 8 used at any given time (which you can change constantly) but the number of skills available are remarkable.
The winter event alone sold me to it (and wait to you see the dance moves) **cough, cough, "cuz this is Thriller", cough** (and I am not kidding on that one)
Still gonna grind my main hero to 50 this year (it has only taken me 2 years)

Wow - great info everyone! I did buy a free 10 hour trial off ebay for 5 bucks, and I actually really like the game. I think I'm ganna get it.

Lol- good point! Maybe I should stick to Captain Icy-Hot!
Anyways, after playing it for awhile, it doesn't feel like some deep, dark, dank AD&D game that I thought it would. Course, I've been crawling around under my house trying to fix my stupid plumbing for days now and I think that's about as dungeonesque as you can get!

Back to your side Daz, dont make me come over to GW. I have already been over there once this week, twice and we may be fetchin for a battle!
But I do agree the graphics are rather beatiful and the game has it moments, its a bit confusing but I am one of those if I doesnt grab me w/n the 1st few levels then I chuck it. I have a level 6 or 7 or something but got a lil lost so I stopped playing.
But it can be fun, much better than plumbing work. You may get loot there but not the kind you want.
