connection problems/ ports/ voip

just started playing battlefield 2 again and still getting there is a problem with your internet connection.

ive read on a few forums that people suggest turning off the VOIP and EAX, which i have done and the problem still continues.

i also read something about the gaming ports being open, im using norton firewall and know how to add ports but im not clued up on the difference between TCP and UDP, or do i add both?

lastly, i read that the problem had something to do with people using onboard sound, especially with msi/ realtek and a soundcard would solve these connection problems but i cant see how this would affect it?

any help woud be great so i can have a smooth game of bf2 for once!

RE: connection problems/ ports/ voip

Eh bud, here's some things to try

Firewall is to strong
Disable the Nortons and Window firewal, if it works and you connect, then should turn on the firewall and do both of these.

Adding An Exception in Nortons
Open the settings of your security program (usually by right-clicking the system tray icon)
Locate a section for adding exceptions for specific programs
Add Battlefield 2 as an exception (C:\Program Files\Battlefield2\Battlefield2.exe by default on Windows systems) ---- example, file may be different ----

Adding An Exception in Windows

------ in this pages instructions same thing only batlefield

IF It does not work

1. School / Univeristy Network
Call the Schools Internet Provider and tell them your problem, and what you want to do, be very specific.

2. Physical Network
Your router or Network Card doesn't like your network, so call your Internet service provider and tell them your problem, again be very specific.

Try this very last and keep all receipts
You may have to go buy a new router or card --- make completely sure it is compatable with your computer ---
