Ok, so I'm a little slow on the uptake

I just found out that I can buy the good v evil stuff for $10 as an upgrade to my existing account. I'm technically paying $10 for some costume options, the jump-jet power, and the Pocket D teleporter.

Am I insane for thinking this it totally worth it? I mean, the jump jet will save me a LOT of time in the low levels and the pocket D transporter will be useful through all levels. I know it only resets every 30 minutes, but that's about once per mission or so anyway.

I don't know anything about the costume peices, but I suppose more options is good.

Well, on the one hand, it is only $10, so if you don't like the goodies you get you aren't really out that much.

Regarding the Jump-jet, I have heard this is not that useful as a travel power. I don't think it is the same thing you can get doing the 2nd safeguard mission. Anyone have this that can share first-hand experience?

Just keep in mind the Jetpack isnt a Jumppack. As nice as it is only good for scaling high obstacles or maybe bailing out of tight spot. It doesnt really help with traveling across vast distance in lower levels.

Now in conjuction with Flight, SJ, Flight Packs, and Jump Packs its great. It increases speed very nicely. The Pocket D transporter is nice especially if your a lower level wanting to get to some high level zone for cheating or well w/e may need it for. The costume options are two actually...they are cool but very specific looks...the CoV is a spider design and CoH is almost an armor-espue look. Nice to have if you love costumes. But all in all....paying $10 isnt too bad. I did it and dont regret it.

RE: Ok, so I'm a little slow on the uptake

the one thing i really hate about the jetpack thingy is that is greatly increases verticle movement, not horizontal.

it's worthless with fly. if you have it on while flying and try and use it, you have to angle yourself downwards so you can go forward a bit.

but it's flipping awesome with SJ! i jumped 3/4 of the way from the AP gate to the skyway gate in hollows with one jump. another cool thing is that if you are SJing with the pack and let go of the space bar, you can rejump from whatever point you want on your way down and its like you are jumping from the ground. your speed never decreases.

One other thing of note that no one else seems to have thought about that might sway your decision. When I upgraded my account with GvE, I got an extra month of play time. $10 for all the goodies and a month of free play time? Ok, I'll take it. Seriously, you can stop twisting my arm now. OWWWW! That hurts. I said you could stop....*muttering and groaning in pain*

So you get a month for $10.00 instead of the usual $15? Sounds good to me! :)

Hmmm...I didnt get a free month of play. Did you buy it offline or thru store? Even so I would think if you bought store version you could only get the 30days if it was new account.....unless.....did you buy it at the regular retail price? Then if that was the case that may of been an added benefit.

It definitely would when I can't get over obstacles and have to go a long way around (Perez for example)

I go to pocket D because it is very fast way to get from place to place. For example, if I have a mission in the far end of boomtown and I want to go level, I'll go to Pocket D and then Talos. Much, much faster than running to steel.

I very seriously doubt you get a month of play, but I'll let you know after I do it. I'm going to apply it right now. MarineX let me log onto his account a few weeks ago to get some screenshots and he had it and MAN that made getting from place to place faster (the pocket D teleport).

Oh yeah, I bought it at the store, and it may have been at regular retail price. Still, I think it only cost me about $20. It's been a little while and the mind isn't what it used to be.

RE: Ok, so I'm a little slow on the uptake

Something else I wanted to mention, the Pocket D transporter has another nice use, although hopefully you'd rarely find it necessary: you can teleport directly out of missions. If you need to leave a door mission to rest, level, stock up on inspirations, or just get the hell away from a boss, you can just retreat to a secure spot within the mission and teleport out via Pocket D. IIRC, this also works for the Base Teleport veteran power(been a few weeks since I used that).

ooh, what's that noise in the background? Oh, it's a Buzzer.

so sorry, that is not the correct answer :) The jumpjet is remarkably helpful when using fly. Team this sucker with hover, and you've nearly got fly already, so for you lvl 6s out there with a shiny new power and a mission 1.7 mi away from the atlas gate in the hollows, quite helpful (albeit for 30 seconds)

The jumpjet gives vertical movement only, but paired with fly increases the speed by a very nice amount. No downward angle required. It may not look like the jumpjet is doing anything, but it is boosting flight speed.

I did it for the Pocket D porter. No matter what zone ur in u can instantly (almost) hop to the pocket and sell after every mish. It has increased my in game cash (influence) flow tremendously.
And the jump pack with SJ rocks. I even get a lil dizzy when hitting it. But the ability to jump more than half way across a zone (still faster than fly) is really cool. I have also found the pack very useful b4 the travel powers. Especially in the Hollows. The base porter almost always puts me on the opposite side of the trench from the mish door is. Go Figure. But u can damn near hop all the whole way across the trench.

You can sell in pocket d?

No but its just a quick hop to Talos where all the stores are represented fairly close to one another. Works out well when your in a zone that doesnt have a green line in it. Or if the Green Line station is a long ways away from your mish exit point. Basically u can get out of mish sell and back to new mish door quicker. More mishs' per session=more XP

RE: Ok, so I'm a little slow on the uptake

I'll add in my two cents, since I got GvE for X-mas.

-The jumpjet's nice when you don't have any other travel powers, and by the sounds of things it only gets better once you do (only lvl 3 atm). I'll admit that it's horizontal is pretty slow on it's own, but hey, at the low levels it's better then just a normal jump and sprint.
-The Justice and Sinister costume pieces, in my opinion, are very cool. I've barely used any of the pieces, but that's just because it doesn't fit into any of my guys' designs, though I'll definately be using them more in alternate costumes.
-While I haven't used the Pocket D warp yet, if you think about it it does have quite the variety of uses (most, if not all have already been mentioned in other posts).
-I don't know if this is normal, but when I made my account using GvE it showed me with 1 month. Not sure if it's saying I'm on month 1 or if I have 1 already under my belt (thus giving me a free month) though...

And I didn't know you were able to upgrade your account for 10$, I'll be sure to tell my brother that. Personally, I think it would be totally worth it.

It was worth it for sure and I'll tell you why: The point to having Kheldians and veteran powers is that once you've played a while, the game can get kind of stale. Sure they bring in more zones and such which is good, but they've been slow to fix the most repetative part of the game which is the missions.

Still, the best part of CoH is designing and playing new characters (Thus the proliferation of altoholism). Giving us new powers to make travel faster, leveling quicker, builds better even from level 1 keeps us playing.

This is why I hate the idea of just costume pieces for veteran rewards. They should always be a power of one sort or another.

RE: Ok, so I'm a little slow on the uptake

Regarding the Jump Jetpack thingy...

All the explore badges in AP and GC at level 1. The jump pack lasts long enough to get to the top of the city hall and then to the top of atlas's globe.

For Peacebringers, the jump pack makes a very noticable difference in your flight speed at low levels. I can't give exact numbers, but it's very noticable.

For Non-Peacebringers, after you complete your first Safeguard mission at level 5 or 6ish, you get the Flight Pack Thingy...you CAN use the flight pack thingy and the jump jetpack thingy at the same time...thus making flight that much faster. Those temp travel powers are SO worth it. I actually used up my flight pack on my new scrapper RIGHT when I hit level 14.

The jumppack thing is a little weird when using Super Jump. Not a fan of it. Yeah, it makes it faster, but you keep going up unless you let go of the space bar.

Regarding the costume pieces...they look really cool, enough said about that.

Regarding the PocketD teleporter...meh...it's cool and all, but more importantly...IT COMES WITH A BADGE! :)

Funny how this is the thing I like the most and some people are more ambivilant.

Anyway, the best part of the jumpack is for the villain side. Holy hell, but I've spent the better part of a half hour trying to figure out how to get to a mission door in that stupid fort Cerberus with it's massive walls. Even with SJ, it can be hard to get around on teh Rogue Isles.

As for the going up bit, I've noticed that when flying so I angled my screen down to counter it. If there's a better way, please tell me because I don't like to fly when I can't see where I'm going.
