I'm curious what some of you from England think about this. I would like to move to England some day to live there myself and wonder what are your thoughts about apparently being spied on?

I'd rather have the cameras on the buses, upstairs on the bus in London, especially at night, can be pretty dangerous.
I have a flannel to wash my face

Think its a good thing.. Of course that depends on what level they keep an eye on you but im all for cctv cameras..
Ive seen them being used in england on those police shows etc.. Due to those cameras a lot of people can be caught, a lot of people can be saved and stuff can be prevented from further escalation.. Im all for it. Of course there has to be a certain amount of privacy.. Im not for the stuff they do in the US.. tapping civilian phone calls.. Thats a level of privacy i wouldnt give up.. I want all the privacy i can get when im at home... but in public i dont mind cctv cameras.. people on the street can see you, so why make a fuss of people seeing you through cameras.. well not just people.. the police.. I think thats a safe feeling.

I think it is nice. It is indeed a bit 1984, but having a bit of a safe feeling in the bus is great. You are sitting pretty isolated upstairs.
Supposedly London has the highest density of video camera in the world. But I never have a feeling of being watched. In fact since I moved from Chicago to London I feel a lot more free. I think it is because of less police and security guards around. And maybe it is a false feeling, but the rights of privacy are way stricter in Europe than in the states. There might be plenty of reasons to not move to London, but this should not be one of them.

I don't have a problem with cameras in public places. I can see how they would make you feel safe, and they must be great for when crimes are commited in catching the bad guy.
But that sign disturbes me. Maybe it was because I read 1984, or maybe I'm just a paranoid person. But the thought of "them" watching just gives me the willies.
