hey, this is my first post on game amp...anyhow since you guys dont know, I recently programmed an in game calculator for me and my bro and decided to share with all who want it. Here is a little about how to use it:
TO USE: push the caps lock key then hit ~ key (don't use shift). To type numbers you must prefix your first set of numbers with the letter n. (EXAMPLE: n7500x5)
To calculate your two numbers hit the period button "." If an error occurs and the program does not calculate, hit the "e" key to force reset.(of the programs functions ....this is rare but may happen) You must repeat these steps for each calculation.
Pretty easy eh? If there are any errors you can report the error codes displayed when you hit "e". This is all in-game so you will not have to worry about it on the desktop...however it will work on the desktop. BTW: F5 is programmed to end gw.exe because my brother has crashing problems and thats the only cure I found...consider it a bonus :p
Here is the link:
It is in a .rar file so you can scan it for viruses (for the paranoid) but I assure you there is nothing wrong with it. You dont HAVE to download it either :p I just hated going to my desktop to get that stupid calculator...PM ME IN GAME IF YOU HAVE ANY PROBLEMS...my name is Mrmad Owl...this in no way alters guild wars...it just gets the keystrokes(numbers only) and processes them then spits the answer out. HOPE YOU ENJOY LIKE I DO!
PS- Please contact me to tell me how you like it...it might not pick up keystrokes sometimes...just some of my buggy programming LOL...it works 99% of the time...just check it a couple of times if you are trading like 1 million ectos
C++ owns ;)

First, WELCOME TO GAMEMP
We hope you enjoy it here. Now, how do we know this little file of yours doesn't contain a nasty little suprise inside such as... a KEYLOGGER? But I do think this is pretty cool, but I do not download GW files without knowledge of whether or not my account will be stolen. This is not a flame, I do not want you to interpret it as that, but this is just me being my paranoid little self.
My hidden talent is invisibility!

Explain us a little more about this program? Does it actually opperate inside of Guild Wars?
From how you explained so far, it does, and that is against the EULA.

My program does not even TOUCH guild wars. My program listens for the caps lock key to be pushed...it does not listen to ANY other keys. When the caps lock key is pushed, then it waits for "~". When that is pushed it listens for the letters n,x,/,+,- and "." my program does not do anything else. I am not sure why you removed the like since it is in a zipped rar file (this means it cannot be executed UNTIL it is extracted) meaning that you can scan it for a virus if you dont trust me.
here is a little about HOW my program works. First it waits for the initializer command (caps lock followed by the ~ key)...when this command is given...my program displays ":calc:" to let you know it is ready. My program simply "acts" as if the user had typed the word :calc:. When you get this far, my program waits for the letter n followed by numbers and an x,/,+ or a -. When you push the "." button my program simply acts as if you had typed "= sign then the answer". My program in no way alters the guild wars folder/files nor does it log ANYTHING. Hope this helps.
PS-Why take my link off when mr logitec keyboeard guy puts an open exe on his link?

Have I given enough explanation? can I post the link up? I would post the source code up, but I dont think 99% of anyone on here could read it and I really dont want others modifying my code...since it is a nice idea eh? anyhow you don't have to download it...I just thought many would enjoy it as me and my brother do. Please contact me in game if you want to know more or anything about it.
I've also made several other programs that are kinda cool for gw...such as (as I call it) a Window-On-Topper that makes your GW window always stay on top for those who like to play GW in windowed mode (good for browsing net while in a boring spot lol) :D

no offense or anything, but I just use the calculator in my head. It may not be able to do the actual calculations fast, but it doesn't need you to type in anything, so it is probably faster by the end. plus, can your calculator tell you if you are getting a good deal? I think not. Mine can though. I believe mine wins.
WELOME TO GAMEAMP
EDIT: Also, Alt+F4 closes Guild Wars already. So, you can probably take the F5 thing out.

My calculator is not that hard to use...all you have to do is type caps lock + ~ then type n then some numbers...1+1 is great in you head....but how bout 7500x250? might take longer eh? here is an example of what it looks like (`:calc:n7500x250. =1875000) btw...I used the program to do that lol :p it workd out of game too.
I use the F5 thing when my brother's GW.exe freezes...we tried Alt+F4 but it doesn't work.
If you guys want to suggest some extra functions mabey within reason I could add some.(If I dont get too overwhelmed with requests lol)

So, you "programed" the program to "close" out Guild Wars with "F5", correct? Is that not changing how the program works? As by default, F5 opens a bag. x.x
Or am I getting totally confused? Please inlighten me.

It's enlighten btw :D anyhow...gw does not open a bag with F5 by default...and my program uses WINDOWS to close guild wars...in other words it is COMPLETELY! independant from guild wars...hence the reason you can use it ANYWHERE (in a text editor, in googles search bot, in this forum post window...you get the idea) so no it does in NO WAY alter guild wars...if you want to close guild wars, I believe that is your choice...not the EULA

Your confused.......if he programed a key thats unused by GW to close the game, would it still be considered changing how the program works? What about binding F5 to a diff key? After all, thats changing how the default keys work.

Ya it does, I rebound my mouse3 key(which is f5 by default to refresh internet pages) to target the nearest item, it assigned that F5, which it said is currently being used to open bags(I never used it to open bags which means I never changed the default).
Anyway, you are also right in the fact its using windows to close GW......if windows is setup to do something on a keypress and it interrupts with GW, that is perfectly legal/fine and not against the EULA.

does your program just close the window on top? or does it look for guild wars to close? I think that if it looked for guild wars, then it would count as changing it, but if it only closes the window on top, then it would be fine. Besides, if you are playing guild wars, usually guild wars is on top anyway.

if you go to start > run > cmd it opens a command prompt...my program uses a Windows function called tskill...this ends processes. If you go to the command prompt and type "tskill gw" then it will end guild wars...THAT is what my program does. I think I will just take that function out because people THINK it is wrong. It is definetly not against the EULA. If it is...then I guess it is illegal to use ctrl+alt+del on guild wars...right?
why is it amazing that I want to share my program? and post my game name? I like to help people and I dont think it is working lol

that is if people decide to let that happen, I'm just trying to point out why this wouldnt be against the EULA.
This program doesnt even really interact with GW.....from the sound of it, it works with any or without ANY program running, meaning it doesnt change how GW, or any other program runs.

People dont take for granted what they dont understand(in this case, they dont understand how your program works). I have done a little C++ programming, and could probably understand your code, though I probably cant write something similar(yet), I can understand the difficulties your went through to make this.
And now that I know how it closes GW, I can say for sure that it is NOT against the EULA because if it was, then GW would be saying you cannot run the program on windows without risking breaking the EULA......
Ultimantly, something like this is completely up to the admins, I just hope they make the right choice. :)

First, welcome to AMP. While I don't worry about this program hacking my account or anything, I won't really be using it. I'm perfectly fine with having GW windowed and having a calculator running in the background :-P. Good job though. Hopefully you will continue to make useful programs (that aren't against the EULA :-P).

It may be a great program to use but people will be afraid of any program that is not either made by Anet or tested by a massive amount of people in gw community.
Hopefully anet will make a in game calc. :)

Nice that you made something for yourself to use :)
But I think you will find most people, myself included, just use windows calculator. I often have GuildWars windowed and the calculator is in my quicklaunch bar as I use it a fair bit, so really having an in game one is cool, but possibly worth the risks of EULA violation and account theft. I'm not suggesting you plan on either of these, but most players I'm sure would be wary of them, not knowing the author etc.

it is definetaly not a EULA violation...but I understand not wanting to take risks. I dont blame them...I would not want my 19 months of GW taken...but honestly I am not that kind of person to take accounts...but you dont know that...just like I dont know how some others on here are actually like, you can never tell...unfortunately.

Thats not entirely true, but then again it is also correct (kinda hard to explain) any programs created for use in GW are considered against the EULA until given permission by A-Net to distribute such programs, now where your program sneaks past this is that you have stated it is not only for use within GW, it can be used outside of the game and therefor is not created specifically for GW.
The EULA has been made such as to cover pretty much any type of third party program:

You further agree not to access, create or provide any other means through which Game(s) may be played by others, as through server emulators. You agree not to use any hardware or software, including but not limited to third party tools, or any other method of support which may in any way influence or advantage your use of the Service which is not authorized by NC Interactive, including but not limited to the use of 'bots' and/or any other method by which the Service may be played automatically without human input. You acknowledge that you do not have the right to create, publish, distribute, create derivative works from or use any software programs, utilities, applications, emulators or tools derived from or created for the Game(s), except that you may use the Software to the extent expressly permitted by this Agreement. You may not take any action which imposes an unreasonable or disproportionately large load on our infrastructure. You may not sell or auction any Game(s) accounts, characters, items, coin or copyrighted material, nor may you assist others in doing so. |
