| My First GW Noob Question |
|
|
|
Ok, I am a noob who is about to start my Guild Wars experience (yes go ahead laugh). While I am new to Guild Wars, I am not new to MMORPG's, as I am coming from World of Warcraft (I'm sure u guys have heard of it).
To my knowledge the max lvl in GW is 20. In World of Warcraft, I loved doing raids (parties with more than 5 people, but I'm sure u guys know that). My question is this: What is the GW end game like? I know there's PvP, but is there anything similar to raiding in GW? Like, joining a party of 10-15 people and then going to a really hard dungeon and killing elite monsters for really good loot?
Plz let me know ASAP. It's the one thing I wanna know about this game, and I haven't found any information about it yet. Thanks guys.

WELCOME TO AMP + GW
There are 2 "Elite Missions" that require 12 people per group if that's what you like. They are located in Guild Wars : Factions. There's a difficult area in Guild Wars : Nightfall called the Domain of Anguish which is a nice challenge to players. This is achievable after beating Nightfall. I hope that's the info you wanted. Enjoy Guild Wars.
BTW that's actually a very good question so don't be hard on yourself. ^^ My first "Noob" Question was worse, I asked what a District was.

First, Welcome to Gameamp!
Anyways, there are elite missions that are similar to the raids in WoW in the Factions game. The elite missions consist of 12 players going through an extremely difficult area for good loot. There are also areas in the other parts of GW but they only consist of 8 players but the difficulty is still boosted way up.

Ok, so there are raids/elite missions. Good :)
I always thought WoW had raid parties that were way to big (20 and 40 ppl usually). 8 man parties and 12 man parties sound good to me.
I'll start playing in a few days once I receive my Amazon order. All 3 games for $126. I'm a big spender lol.
Thanks for the help guys.

In WoW I had a lot of addons. My screen was fully customized.

in factions, there are two elite missions:
Urgoz's Warren and The Deep.
These two are like raids in WoW in the sense that they take time, skill, and teamwork. I have heard they can take anywhere from 3-6 hours.
In Nightfall, there is Domain of Anguish
have fun

No you cant have any addons in guild wars. They are really strict about bots, d/l stuff, ext, but you can custamize your layout of where you want your skill bar, health bar, energy, ext. I hope this helped. ANd theres no problems with questions :D. If you have any ill be glad to help. IF you need any help in game my main char is Tides Of Life (Oh and idk if you know this if you add a person to a friends list you can figure out what char they are on :D because say like you know a guy named "Bob Fifty" and hes on a different char like "TO kool for me" it will say this if you added him. Bob Fifty (To kool for me) and no those arnt my char name :P) i hoped this helped some

While there are no addons to GW, the interface is completely customizable. You can move around and reshape anything that shows up on your screen; skill bar, health and energy bars, experience bar, radar, minimap, target indicator, skill progress bar, weapon sets, menu button, effects monitor, party box, and any other screen that you can bring up.
Oh, and you'll probably see other people saying this, but no question is a noob question. If you ask something, that means that you're looking to learn; n00bs don't do this, which makes them n00bs :)

Welcome to GW (the best game ever). Coming from WoW, with a UI that is the worst I have ever seen, way overcluttered, too many skills and item placements, you might be overwhelmed with how clean and concise the GW UI is. 8 skills max, LOL, deal with that WoW users who need 80 skill slots. Anyways, I think you'll love how simple the UI in GW is, and this 8 skill limit will challenge you to create an effective build, something that I dont think WoW players are very good at, no offense =)

Welcome to Gameamp, Hektik!
Since there have been good answers, I will just add that I hope you enjoy the game.
The "Elite" missions are in the Factions (chapter 2) and Nightfall (chapter 3) expansions/stand-alone's of Guild Wars. Prophecies (chapter 1) has a 'somewhat elite mission' in an area called Sorrow's Furnace. In it you have a chance on getting some good unique weapons we fondly call "greenies/greens". They are colored green on their texts, hence their being called so.
I hope you enjoy the game. :-) Again, Welcome!

hey there welcome to game amp.
for the first part you can get rare items from monsters and chests in the elite missions and there are normally green items dropped from boss types. there may not be any add-ons but there are some programs you can get to help.
a popular one is http://www.gwfreaks.com/
its a separate program that's like a character builder. tho it helps in picking skills and playing with builds there have been allot of changes in the game and for making builds people often make a pvp char.

Cool :)
Does GW have the same system for ranking weapons and armor like WoW? For example, whites are crappy, then green, then blue, then purple?
Also, what does GW have for an auction system? Can you put items on an auction house, or do u just announce it in a trade channel and then trade with someone?
Thx guys.

Welcome to Gameamp!
Exactly so. The order of progression for what is a decent weapon.
White = Run of the Mill; tho it can be maximum damage it has no benefits. Drop the most.
Blue = Low End; Has one or two bonuses that can increase health, energy, casting time or recharge of skills. Drop alot. Lowest bonus givers usually +25 Health or 15% Recharge of Spells.
Purple = Medium; Has one to three bonuses that again increase your abilities. Drop fairly often. Bonuses are usually high but not very often the best eg +26-28 Health or 17-19% Recharge of Spells.
Gold = Top End; The best. These dont drop often but are the best you can get. Decent weapons with good skins go for millions. Usually have the best bonuses eg +30 Health or 20% Recharge of Spells.
Green = One Off Top End; These only drop from certain bosses in game, some more sort after than others. Are always max damage and always have the best bonuses.
The next thing about weapons is the Requirement. The Requirement is the level that you must have in that particular skill to be able to do the maximum damage.
Example
Fiery Dragon Sword ; Req. 9 ; Dam. 15-22
You would need to spend 9 points in Sword Mastery to be able to get the full benefit of the weapons damage, otherwise you will do pitance :S

white < blue < purple < gold
Green items don't really occupy a place in the same scale, since they are 'unique' items usually named after the boss that drops them. They usually have maxed out attributes but some bosses on low-level areas drop 'lowbie greens' with suitably scaled-down attributes. A named green item always has the same stats whereas all the others are luck-of-the-draw.

I see no one mentioned a oucple places that are challenging and still a lot of fun........the underworld and Fissure of Woe not to mention Tombs. All of these take teamwork to Clear, although are solo-able (I made this word up) to some extent.
As for getting all 3 chapters at once i would recommend picking one chapter and sticking to it at first, there is a lot of content in all 3 games and you might start to feel lost if you try to work on all 3 at once.
Which one to start with is a little bit of a toss-up as prophecies has the bes learning curve, most content and to a lot is still the best chapter out there. Downside is that since there are 3 other chapters finding people for mission may be dificult.
Factions has the fastest learning curve and is a little lacking on the PvE side IMO
Nightfall has a faster learning curve then Prophecies, is bigger then factions and offer heroes. I would recommend starting here for a couple reasons
1. More people here due to the fact it is still the newest chapter
2. Heroes, once you get them you can bring them through all 3 chapters (on that character). This get around the low population in some of the earlier chapters so you can still do missions.
3. Weapon inscription allow you to better customize the weapons you want.
Again this is just my opinion form someone who has only been playing about a year (I have beaten all 3 chapters though and have 8 characters)
One more note when you start playing I would recommend using the forums here at Gameamp (link to guild forum)to find a good guild. I think you get a better feel for what they stand for then just joining a person who is spamming a recruitment line in an outpost.
Lastly of course
WELCOME TO GAMEAMP
and goodluck in your adventuring

Welcome to Gameamp
The greatest site to my knowledge. Another good source of info is www.guildwiki.org Lots of information on new players.
Just a thought - when you install the games you have to have an email account for your user id. If you want your characters to have access to all 3 campaigns then you will need to install all your keys under one mail account. This way you will be able to access all game content.
If you create 3 different accounts your characters will only have access to whatever campign you have installed.
Anyway good luck on the game. You got lots to explore and do. I kind of wish i had to just start. It has been that fun.....
