| UT2004 not at wcg 2005... |

Well that puts the knife in the heart of UT2004 for me. I kept playing in hopes of doing well for WCG in 2005, and they announce it's been replaced by Dawn of War.

Well I posted in the wrong forum I guess, sorry.

fuck wcg. Forget this happend. We have some energy going in the OLB. Once 2k4 starts to look alive, tournamnets for the game will be in demand.

In better news, ESWC is doing UT2k4 but I have no idea how they're going to select the players yet. Either way it's not going to revive the community much. It says a 'mixture of national preliminary qualifiers and invitation.' The first ESWC was 100% qualifiers, the seoncd was 100% invite... so I don't know.

I don't usually reply to those topics, and I certainly don't intend to start yet another ProU inspired flame war, but I beleive this is the best thing that could happen to the UT series, long term... Simply because as many people know, the current UT community, at least in north america, has several issues, and not having any large cash prize tournaments will drive away the people who only play the game for the money/competition involved. Those who will stay, and play competitively, are those who actually *enjoy* the game, and if there is enough of them, (which I don't doubt, looking at the player numbers.) a new, better scene will form sooner or later. In fact, reading the threads here, it's already starting to happen. Just a matter of time.

I agree with you to an extent.. MTX keeps playing UT because we love the game. But for the most part we love the game because we constantly strive to be as good as the pro clans(ret. Kaizen. Con and so forth) now that they've all left the skill level isn't even close to what it was. Now dp says he's done so there goes another top clan. SBP started back up and they'll be up with the likes of LOB and H20 but who knows how long those three will stick around without being rewarded for their hard work and commitment.... so for me it's lost that edge but i still play it becuase of the amazing physics engine and fast gameplay... the community will revive itself when a new UT comes out and hopefully then there will be cash prize tournaments to attract more players. because frankly right now the community sucks... i have alot of close friends in it and i love scrimming with them all but there just aren't enough clans and of those clans not enough scrim often. Myself and many others have offered to help new clans that are comming into the community and will continue to do so in hopes that some day UT will have the competitive community it once did.

Not to be negative or anything, but we'll never have what was had during ut1's days. Think about it, in those days, there was nothing else to play really. You had three choices of FPS: UT1, Q3, and CS - each had a different style, so those who didn't want CT v T type play had Q3 and UT1 to choose between, and with Q3 being not nearly as cool, you had so many people playing UT1.
Then everyone got older - we all had more time back then. Some of us are still going, but we're losing time to play. There are WAY more games to choose from nowadays. The young kids up and coming aren't finding Unreal to fit their taste pallet very well, and are playing other games. Half of the old UT1 community could give up their investment of time into UT1 and move on to the next game, only to lose it in the end anyways because nobody came back like they hoped we would.
So here we are plugging along, with the 'great' teams sometimes with us and sometimes not. In truth, they're the ones that make me the most sad. They form these super rosters to beat everyone else down, and they do, so they quit, because it gets boring so fast to do so. It makes me sad because it shows me they don't enjoy the game that much. IMO. I've said enough.../rambling
